Xbox forced it. No apologies, no excuses. Sony was smarter about their reveal.

People are being too down on PS5's showing for my tastes...

Buying both consoles day one. Currently I'd rank both reveals as being a B. Both have highs and lows.

I do feel from a 3rd party perspective the XSX will be my main console, as like the X for the most part it should provide the highest resolution/performance.

Sony had the better reveal, but I'm still not that impressed with either of them. Maybe it's my age showing but I'm not seeing the big "wow" factor. Am I not seeing the right footage?

It's your age, Horizon and ratchet show a mind melting leap. compared to the last gen games.

I saw the footage of those two games, and while they look nice, it still feels like diminishing returns is rearing its eventual, ugly head. Looking at the Digital Foundry analysis, for example, it's cool that reflections and shadows further out are higher quality, but it feels incremental rather than a radical new direction.

I think what I am looking for is, what new types of gameplay will be available on these new consoles, because I am completely bored of the open world maps with the same missions over and over.

Nah, we are still generations away from diminishing returns, Until spiderverse and avatar can be rendered in realtime we aren't hitting that.

The incremental changes made to the games make the new R&C look like move compared to the previous games. Horizon forbidden west foliage looks absolutely ridiculous. The digital foundry videos only make the improvements more clear.

Gameplaywise sure, it's nothing revolutionary.

Halo looked fine, devs were trying to show how gameplay resembled Combat Evolved. They need to nail original Halo's atmosphere and world lore, first. No visuals can save the franchise if it's a mess in other areas.

The Medium and Forza were the only ones that impressed me.
Halo looked VERY "One S" for me.
Disappointed.
Guess PlayStation still the way to go.

It's crazy some of you still doubt Sony first party studios after all they did on ps4, but at the same time you want people to give the benefit of the doubt for MS game studios when they didn't really deliver at all just promises.

Yes and wtf do cutscenes run on? Even Hellblade 2 is said to be running "in-engine". None of this was gameplay and this screen doesn't disprove that at all.

It's not about the gameplay only. It's about the fact that everything was captured from PS5 hardware and not pc or pre-renderd stuff like Hellblade.

what do you mean the game is not ready, It's coming out in November lol
This. If they have to "force" show launch games at this point they better delay the whole fucking console, not just Halo. What a joke. And by this I mean the Xbox showcase even moreso than the PS showcase. Next Gen console launch later this year will be the first one since the PSone where I'm not in day one.

Jim Ryan stated eveyrhing that was going to be shown back in June was running on a PS5.

From what Guerilla Games can bring nobody needs to worry about that, they'll deliver in the visuals like they always have with their games.

MS on the other hand have been playing a dangerous game, people have been using Hellblade 2 as a benchmark for next gen graphics, yet they don't even have anything to show since December 2019.

That Hellblade trailer was nothing but CG, anything MS say at this point should be taken with a pinch of salt.
I mean, we know the Xbox Series X hardware is relatively powerful, in some ways even more so than the PS5. I wonder what the deal is. Maybe it's just 343i.

This makes no sense halo wasn't developed from the ground up for series x. The only games we can point to that to is the first party games they announced yesterday that are all not coming to Xbox one including forza, hellblade, fable, state of decay, and avowed now if those games come in looking subpar then that'll be an issue because they are not current gen.

Totally agree. Sony was smarter about this, MS fucked up. For some reason I was looking forward to this event. Modern gaming sucks. Any recommendations on good retro systems and such?

Honestly: Although I'm a Sony guy, I was pretty hyped seeing the showcase, seeing how much potential MS had for the next generation.
Sadly I fell for the good old PR trap. A lot of "MOST XXX EVER" talk, but sadly mediocre stuff at display.
Of course Forza looked nice and Fable will be cool... but It'll take at least two years for me to enjoy those games.

Why did MS had to hype everyone up if THIS was all they got? Halo looked terrible for what they promised.
Both MS and Sony somewhat disappointed seeing how high the expectations by gamers were imo.
At least Sony didn't throw all those "We are the best, everything will look way better on our console" bs beforehand...

Seriously. They know their hand ahead of time. Why do they overpromise and underdeliver? Wouldn't it best to set realistic expectations?
Best would be to just keep their mouths shut, as Sony has been doing. Minimal talk and just delivering the goods.

Optimization, look into it. There's a photo mode for cutscenes, explain that.
Cutscenes just play back without any control loop, collision detection, etc. Even when they are real time, graphics settings can be pushed higher during cutscenes. Not taking any merit from the graphical quality of U4 regardless.

I've always enjoyed Xbox consoles and I have always believed their engineers are top notch - BUT - I have always tried to ignore their management teams. To me they have always come across as disingenuous and annoying.
Look at my post history, I've always stayed quiet about this. Lots of Xbox owners rave non stop about how wonderful Phil has been for the brand and how he has righted the ship. I've always felt the dude is just another mouth piece saying what Xbox owners want to hear.
He generally says one thing while actually doing quite the opposite.
Well after listening to him build up today's show and witnessing all of Greenberg's back handed remarks I just knew they were digging themselves into yet another hole that they would have to unnecessarily dig themselves out of again.
I enjoyed the show and I am looking forward to a good handful of games that should be releasing with the console but seriously can the management fools finally just shut the fuck up and stop over embellishing things.
There is so much good that the Xbox has to offer and seriously it can easily stand on its own two feet at this point. Yet every time one of the idiots open their mouths they push the brand back another step.
Why can't they just focus on their brand and it's offerings in a non hyperbolic way and deliver a clear message instead of constantly trying to hit it out of the park.
Just hitting it over the fence will do just fine. Fuck, sorry for the ranting here people but I'm just sick and tired of these tools and I hope people will start to see Phil for the phony he really is.
Damn man, just deliver a realistic message, back it up with a realistic console (which they certainly have) and stop treating people like idiots.
Now I'm just waiting for someone on the management team to apologize like they did for the last show, but just go right ahead and start blowing the next event out of proportion. Rinse and repeat. They must think people have the memory of a fly.
Because they try to please everyone.

They try to please the cheap fuck who cannot afford 500 bucks every 7 years by telling him everything will be coming out in last gen as well.

They try to please the 12TFs power whores by telling them their console will cure cancer with its sheer power awesomesauce.

They try to please the anti-ps butthurt 'we need more exclusives' fan by assuring him they have console exclusives down the road when they're clearly not ready to show anything.

And in trying to please all, they please none.

Horizon wasn't gameplay (though some small parts I had the idea it was) but I felt it was at least in-engine and doable for PS5. Guerrilla has always delivered on this front. Even Killzone 2, which was a fraud when first shown, turned out to be spectacular. That game was closer to the bullshit renders than Motorstorm etc did.

I feel Forbidden West isn't on the levels of Killzone 2 fuckery. I think it will be pretty much how the game is going to look. Ofcourse pure gameplay will lead to less exciting camera angles etc but that trailer felt believable to me.

you DO know that this isn't the gameplay, right? This is a cutscene lol

This is the gameplay:

looks very downgraded.

At least MS showed true gameplay and not some rendered stuff. The Downgrades will be real.

We all know that Sony is notorious for these ridiculous E3 videos, just look at this:

Ok meirl

Agreed. Although it's clear what they showed was an old build.

The left is what they showed live, and the right is from the 1 minute trailer.

This picture also shows more detailed textures and shadows from what we saw in the live reveal:

Still. It should be looking and performing better. I honestly hope they delay it.

Where is that last shot from? It looks much better than the plastic toy crap 343 has shown.

Trailer was 4K with more color, you picked a 1080p gameplay vid in a drabber environment, and if you watch the whole vid it doesn't actually look far off, just picture it 4K and in a different environ.

Its funny you have to use examples from 15 years ago instead of current-gen examples

But we all know why that is ;)

OK, then compare the Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart Announcement Trailer:

to the Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart Gameplay Trailer:

If you can't see the downgrade here, then I don't know, you need some glasses or so. We will see in the end, when the final game releases, what the graphics will be. I think it will be more like the GAMEPLAY video.

You might need to give your face a wash. You've still got some of that Halo Infinite smudge over your eyes :messenger_tears_of_joy:

One's 4K, the other is 1080p?

Wonder why there isn't a 4K version of the gameplay video available. Weird. Looking at the particles effects, etc it's severely downgraded. It's not hard to see at all. And if you guys can't see it, then I guess you don't want to see it, because it's Sony.

You do realise both videos you posted came out the same day dont you?

Uh...go recheck your info.

When we say "gameplay", we mean real-time stuff the player would actually expect in the campaign. Miles Morales had none of that. Horizon: Forbidden West arguably had none of that, either. In-engine and real-time gameplay are two very different things. Comparatively, R&C had real-time gameplay. GT7 had real-time gameplay. Same goes for Sackboy and Astro (even if they aren't quite lookers).

MS's show had that with Halo Infinite but while that looks fun to play visually it needs more polish. Sadly that was the only 1st-party offering of theirs today that had real-time gameplay to it.

HellBlade 2 was in-engine, Epic themselves literally confirmed this with some UE5 infographics last week :pie_roffles:. And I expect the actual game's real-time graphics to look at least damn close to the 2019 trailer; Ninja Theory are extremely talented when it comes to visuals, they've been so since PS3 days. I can actually see them equaling or surpassing Naughty Dog in that department next-gen especially if Naughty Dog continues to bleed talent.

Spiderman had gameplay. The web sling from the top of the building was a real gameplay moment. As for Horizon, unless Guerrila changed their MO from Horizon Zero Dawn, those were gamplay shots with cinematic camera angles.

Case in point:

Edit: I'd say the gameplay arguably looks improved, not downgraded

I'm assuming one is performance mode and the other is fidelity mode... because Sony said both modes would be common on their games. Also, it's a pre-alpha demo.

Lol@ Xbox fans trying to say Sony and MS showing were on the same level. The only bad thing about Sony showing is it hasn't generated God levels memes halo has inspired.

You're seeing stuff you want to see my dude. The particle effects are basically identical. Show some actual screen comparisons and give us a run down though

I mean really. Do you think they're going to show fake gameplay alongside real gameplay? in the same presentation no less? are you dumb? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It could be your age. If you're over twelve you might find some of the impressions here puzzling. :)
