Xbox Game Pass General Discussion

The Gunk is very simple mechanically, I like interaction with the main two characters, the story is a bit on the nose but it generally works.

It's an okay, just chill out and play game but think there are plenty of other new games on the service that I would probably play first

Almost at the end of The Pedestrian, what a great game. I thought it was a gimmick platformer but it’s 90% a puzzle game and a pretty good one, my favorite since Baba is You (not that many puzzle games came out since then).

I almost feel bad for missing out on it when it came out.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving.

I got a 3 month GPU code for Christmas and finally got round to redeeming it today and it said if I turn on recurring billing I'll get an extra month free. Now I've always had this option set to on anyway when I've redeemed previous codes, but indeed despite it already being active I got an extra month free.

I'll no doubt get another 3 month code in a month for my birthday so will try the same thing again. I'm good till August 2023 currently.

So what do you guys think after the latest acquisition - with MS having a total of 30+ studios, some of them having two or more dev teams, can we finally expect the service to have 1st party title each month in the upcoming future? Mathematically, if MS synchronizes the release dates, each team would have whole 3 years to complete their game, so enough for even an AAA title.

I believe that something like that is the goal, but in reality unplanned delays will cause situations where there will be no big releases one month and multiple releases the next month.

Seems too rigid. I'm not sure Microsoft is going to break the COD cycle, but I'd hope they'd let the majority of their IPs have more room to breath.

First thing they might do is not have every Activision studio working on Warzone/COD, as well. This would help to that commitment a lot but it's going to take some time. They will probably change how Blizzard's IP's are handled.

I hope they aim to release one big AAA game every two month, with a smaller game in between. that way some studios can try new things by having a second team working on a side project instead of producing the same game for the same franchise eternally. There is an opportunity to let studios have more creativity if they let them work on different things at the same time and it would fill game pass with more variety.

For the general audience, they have a pretty nice 2022 including major expansions for things like Halo Infinite probably planned this year. GamePass growing 7M in subs with just two titles makes me curious how it'll look in the 2nd half when Redfall and all launch.

Personally, with Activision securing them a foothold in NA/EU, I hope they look to have more JP games added to their line up since their SEGA collection is nice. Stuff like Taiko coming this month is great for variety.

Did some Game Passing today. Taking a break from Alien Fireteam for a bit:

-Serious Sam 4: Has to be one of the worst performing console games outside of Deadly Premonition 2 in recent memory. Those Vampire enemies are assholes.
-Rainbow Six Extraction: It has a few neat ideas here and there (shooting those yellow stick balls from your teammates and how you recapture operators who died) but it just seems really dull like the a version of terrorist hunt that no one asked for or wanted.
-Wind Jammers 2: The art is kind of blah but they nailed they recaptured the game play from the original. The gimmick to the casino stage is also great. Just a fun arcade experience and my early GOTY.

Have been playing both Nobody Saves the World and Mass Effect games. Breezed through the first ME pretty fast and loved it, but the second one is on another level. Perhaps a bit less focused on the story and less focused on RPG elements, but everything feels so right. A good reminder that it is probably one of the best games ever made. Also, fascinating to see how much better the graphics are compared to the first game. Nobody Saves the World is pretty damn great as well, but I'm soo deep in ME2 right now, I can't focus on anything else, so I will definitely continue when I'm done with Bioware's masterpiece.

The Game Pass catalogue continues to grow new games like Rainbow Six Extraction, and some recent classics like the HITMAN Trilogy.

There's a lot of games to play on Xbox Game Pass, and with its catalog ever-growing, it can be a lot to keep track of. In this video, we go over some of the recent games to make their way to the service, like Nobody Saves The World, or Rainbow Six Extraction, as well as some hidden gems like Gorogoa, and The Procession To Calvary.

If there weren't already enough games to choose from, Microsoft is bound to acquire Activision Blizzard in 2023, meaning Game Pass is about to get a lot bigger. Once the deal closes, Microsoft will be the home of some of gamings largest franchises like Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Candy Crush.

In an interesting twist, this means Microsoft will be the adoptive parent of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro — two franchises born on PlayStation. It's safe to assume we'll be seeing a lot of Activision Blizzard games showing up on Game Pass in the near future.

00:34 - Rainbow Six Extraction
01:26 - Nobody Saves The World
02:05 - Death's Door
03:00 - Mass Effect Legendary Edition
03:40 - HITMAN Trilogy
04:22 - Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
04:52 - AI: The Somnium Files
05:23 - Firewatch
06:15 - Gorogoa
06:44 - The Procession To Calvary
07:22 - Outro

How do people even find the time to play so many games on Game Pass? I end up playing one game on there and can sometimes get lost in it for months or years if it's open-world or multiplayer (or a really good single player game that I replay multiple times). I guess the service isn't for people like me who really play the shit out of their games?

I’m the same as you. There are some folk that are like kids in a sweet shop and have to try everything though.

About 80% probably more actually, has not and will not ever interest me on GP.

If you would buy at least 2-3 games at full price that would come to Game Pass in a year, then you might as well have Game Pass year round anyway. That's how I look at it.

I buy the games I play the shit out of. Game Pass serves two function for me. First, trying out games that are getting positive word of mouth that I have passing interest in but would probably not purchase. Most recently, I'd lump these in that camp:

-Halo
-Death's Door
-The Forgotten City
-Unpacking
-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth
-Visage
-Riftbreaker
-The Gunk

I'm happy I got to try those games out and even happier I didn't purchase them.

Second, it's great for co-op gaming. My buddy and I probably game together two or three times per month. Recently we've played:

-Aliens Fireteam Elite (In Progress)
-It Takes Two (finished)
-Serious Sam
-Dead Space 3 (In Progress)
-Rainbow Six
-The Ascent
-Outriders (finished)
-Marvel's Avengers

Much like the list above, I'm happy we got to play these games and I'm happy we didn't purchase them. Game Pass hasn't altered my spending habits. It's inexpensive and convenient and more often than not, games I have passing interest in end up on the service.

20% of the catalog is still a ton of games.

I don't think no one is expected to be interested in 100% of its offering.

They want to have large audience and it means a large selection of games that attract more subscribers. You are interested in 20% of their selection and someone in 20% of other games that may be completely different from your choices.

Same on Netflix etc. I don't care about their reality series crap, but someone else will watch only those.

For some reason I thought OlliOlli World was going to be available on Game Pass day 1. Do you guys know anything about this? Or was this coming later in the future on Game Pass.

I don't recall seeing it on GP, but it's hard to keep track really. I think it's out 2/8/22 and they just announced games for the first half of the month. So doesn't look like it.

Dreamscaper isn't bad. Kind of a hilarious game.

Its like they hired an artist to make the most soft and feminine game imaginable, but she got stuck working with a combat designer determined to fill the game with tons of different weapons, just impact combos, parries and difficult bosses. Very bizarre.

I went into it blind and got a sense of dread as soon as I realized this was yet another take on Binding of Isaac. *sigh*

for anybody that cares about achievments or needs an easy one for Rewards.
that damn One Piece Pirate 4 or whatever game on Gamepass....gave me 10 achievements in about the first 5 mins of playing it
Is it apart of the weekly/monthly anime quest?

Taieko Drum Master is also great for a few daily points.

Play 1 song in each of the styles would get you almost a week of daily achievements for 2 or 3 minutes of work.

I’ve heard good things about Telling Lies, but either I’m too impatient or stupid, because I don’t really get the appeal of watching these videos and look for whatever the game wants me to look for. Ended up playing a round of Solitaire and quit. And this comes from a guy who really likes Logan Marshall-Green.

Is that what it's like? Sounds like a Sega CD game lol. I'll have to check this out.

Yeah, it seems like an homage to these games, but with a modern times touch. Feels like they just got a bunch of actors film themselves during covid lockdown and built a game around it. I think I will just watch a beginning of a walkthrough on YT to see what you actually have to do to progress and try again.

I signed up to gamepass not that long ago. It's well worth the money, and it will be the way of the future. It's going to be interesting to see how it matures. The content vindicates the price easily, and when MSs first party studios start dropping exclusives every couple of months then it's going to be undeniable.
