Lot of cash, so where's the games?
... where's the games on Game Pass? They're... on Game Pass?Lot of cash, so where's the games?
Again, you don't have any figures for Microsoft's outgoing expenses. All you're doing is making assumptions. It is possible that you are correct, but it is equally possible that you are incorrect. Quit acting like it's a fact that Game Pass is profitable right now. Until we can actually see the full picture and not just the revenue it is 100% speculation.

No not those games silly. The other games.... where's the games on Game Pass? They're... on Game Pass?
Lot of cash, so where's the games?
Is that exclusive?Bingo
Thats a lot of money. They should be able to afford far more third party AAA games than they currently do. Games like Elden Rings, Harry Potter, Resident Evil, Avatar, Assassins Creed etc.
At least last year they had a couple of big first party AAA games in november and december. this year was pitiful. Just a sea of indie games and B games. Elden Rings, Saints Row, Gotham Knights, Castillo Protocol are pretty much the only big AAA titles to release this year outside of CoD and some PS4 first party games, so they shouldve put all those $3 billion into securing them. highly doubt they wouldve cost more than $200 million each.
I've been playing more games than ever recently thanks to Game Pass. They've been hitting it of the park for a long time now, it's why people sig its praises.Lot of cash, so where's the games?

I guess 'lack of games' = no GoW Ragnarok.
Yep. Pretty insane to sit there and argue blatantly incorrect statement, it's been a long time since Xbox had no games of quality. I've posted a couple of rebuttal lists this year already here on GAF but anyone should just checkout the Gamepass OT as it's everchanging.
Friends, family (kids and us parents too) as well as myself have all been playing more genres and games than ever. Gamepass has been insanely great value, so much so that we have a circle of Xbox friends that gift games or MTX to each other on an ad-hoc rotation so we all play together and don't miss out.

Not just my enjoyment of this hobby, but my entire self-worth and confidence in my life choices are dependent on whether this is profit.
I hope we have a strong Q2 balance sheet or my wife will demand a divorce and my dog will no longer obey me.
I mean 2.5 billion revenue I highly doubt qualifies as hemorrhaging - are we thinking it’s over 5 billion a year to maintain?Again, you don't have any figures for Microsoft's outgoing expenses. Googled it and @Dick Jones seems to be correct. Discounts are deducted from gross sales.
"Net sales is the sum of a company's gross sales minus its returns, allowances, and discounts."
Net Sales: What They Are and How to Calculate Them
Net sales are the result of gross sales minus returns, allowances, and discounts. They are a factor in gross profit but do not include costs of goods sold.www.investopedia.com
As a stockholder you would be looking at their whole portfolio of businesses. More to the stock than GP.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with posting it. Some data is better than no data.IMO threads like this should be banned on gaf as this kind of stat says nothing of substance.
Revenue posted not profit
Gamepass is unique so we have no yardstick to measure against. 3 bil could be amazing, or shit, we have no idea
How many people are subbed to $1 subs, how many people family share?
Does revenue indicate popularity, or are more people playing gamepass than are accounted for?
Does this figure include people who play EA play? (For example, i pay full whack for gamepass on xbox and on PC including EA Play for C&C but I have my brother on my account)
Too many questions, not enough data and it's a swamp for misinformation and an excuse to shit sling at one-another

The stuff you and the others above talking about revenue and discounts to final customers will likely go like this. Granted, I dont work in direct to consumer models or in software or sub plans. But the shit we sell is to retailers and wholesalers, but the methodology should be the same.I don't think they are referring to discounts there in the way that it is being talked about in this thread. In many cases you are going to give discounts after the full funds have been collected, say stores buy shipments of Xbox systems and then MS does a price drop and they get credits/discounts, or if there was some other enforced price change. But, I have no idea. Crazy way to do it if the money was never collected in the first place, but I'm not an accountant. LOL
Yup ^Me waiting to see how much profit GP generated while watching the usual suspects pretend revenue is profit.
Sony makes about $3 billion profit a year from their gaming division. Free first party sales would barely make a dent into that $3 billion/year.Sounds like it’s mostly Gold users converted to GP. Not enough to sustain a massive first party lineup with day 1 releases. Sony makes like 3.5b a year on plus, they wouldn’t be able to release all first party day 1 without going bankrupt. There’s probably a magic number MS needs to hit to make this all work, they know what it is but we don’t. I wonder if they can get there.
It's actually the other way around. The majority of MS talk is Game Pass, and more games from Bethesda/Activision. Most of heated Sony talk is about $70 games, $10 upcharges, sales list wars, PC port strategies, and the latest big news of GAAS games being a day one strategy.Yup ^
I feel bad for Xbox fans because the convo around the brand has just been about business instead of actual video games.
Why do people ignore the other 82% of MS’ gaming revenue? As a gamer, I don't care. I just play the games.
As a MSFT stockholder though, I very much care what the profit margin is. I hope GP's path to profitability takes much less time than say Netflix did.
This should be the new Xbox slogan. You'll be singing a different tune in 12 months.
1 million x 1000 = 1 billion..Damn that's a lot of profit
With 2.9 billion dollars, Microsoft could have given each of the 330M people living in America a million dollars and still had left over. Why aren't more talking about this?
For the unaware...
The $600.000 XB paid to bring "Cooking Simulator" to GP counts towards GP's revenue.

So that's 2021 revenue which was a good year for MS first party.
Until you realise it's mostly the xbox fans talking about $10 surcharges, and $70 games, and "Sony's gamepass" strategy. It's actually the other way around. It ends a lot of discussions regarding subscription servicesWhy do people ignore the other 82% of MS’ gaming revenue?
If GP brings 2.9bn and total revenue is 16bn then there are other revenue sources, such as selling games, platform income from 3rd party sales, etc.
All this data does is shoot down forever the idea that people get GP for free or for €1, since even if you take the highest possible sub number that’s still 116 usd per year per subscriber (without PC).
It’s nice to see some dumb arguments being removed from the discussion once in a while.
That's actually an expense. Nowhere would it ever be counted as revenue except on Big Cheese Studio books. For the unaware...

There are shit loads of new games coming to gamepass each month for both pc and console...
Gamepasss is full of excellent games already.
And not to be a debbie downer but we are taking a hard data point from a year when most people spend the majority of the year at home.
Next year we will most likely see a drop in revenue, just like netflix and other subscription services have seen.
Every game added is for you. How dare they branch out to try to include everyone in the family.Like PAW Patrol: Grand Prix

IRS wants this guy auditing taxes. Every dollar spent is added to revenue. So pay tax when you earn it and pay tax when you spend it.« The amount MS paid counts towards its revenue »
And this is the MBA gamers we are supposed to argue with…
You joke, but I recall the posts here sneering at Disney Dreamlight Valley. And yet it’s been a significant hit across Gamepass, Steam, PSN etc.
family friendly content is VERY important for services like these.
Not to mention the existing games on the service that folks keep playing. Many People are paying for access to a library of games, and not just the month-to-month releases.
Why did you skip the other games added?
