Xbox Game Pass is delivering more than ever, but will gamers notice?

Gamepass has always delivered value to gamers. That's its whole premise. But it kind of doesn't matter at this point. It's a failed business proposition. Microsoft failed to develop interesting enough games and IPs to get enough people to buy into gamepass when they launched it years ago. I mean we're 8 years into GamePass existing, and how many subs were built up on $1 stacking for years?

I won't crap on the value it delivers to gamers, but it clearly hasn't been the value proposition Microsoft thought it would be. If it was, then they would have gotten more than 30ish million people to buy their current gen console. I'm one of those current gen console owners btw, and I even buy physical Series X games from time to time. Good for the people subscribed to gamepass. I hope you enjoy it and get your money's worth out of it. I genuinely mean that.

That doesn't mean it's a business success.

Yeah I suppose it failed ultimately. However I think either way at this point we can care less whether it's successful or not. It's still a running service.

I can play Expedition 33 under the pass subscription, so it benefits me. And even more so with having Series X and PS5 Pro at home. Best of both worlds to choose where to play your games. Failed or not.

I was just at a theater showing of Demolition Man (excellent) - Two guys behind me, under 40, were talking about new games and one did not understand what GamePass was or how it works. The other guy was explaining it to him.

This is the young artsy neighborhood of a major US city. If 1 of these 2 guys doesn't really get it, there is no hope for the average consumer.

Gamepass's value is the same as that of the 1st generation PS3; sold way cheaper than it costs to make.

But it doesn't change that it isn't what the majority of the customers wanted. Thus PS3 get rebuilt and arguably got WORSE each iteration, but finally got cheap enough to be affordable.

GamePass? it never really changed. Maybe got more expensive, but that is it. It is a bargain for what it is offering, but unless you play games all day everyday you are not getting your money's worth.
