Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

So are we expecting more than just Polygon or will more trickle in as it becomes Wednesday?

Also, is it worth it to pick up Ac4, Nfs Rivals, and a controller from TRU to get $50 in credit and just buy Ryse digitally? Hmmmmm.

Polygon, Kotaku and IGN so far. Giant Bomb podcast too.

Seems like a fairly simple story to me. PS4 has the edge in raw muscle but it remains to be seen how much of a difference that really makes in games. I expect XB1 to crush PS4 in terms of overall user experience, providing Kinect is no longer totally worthless as promised.

Totally agreed with this. That's not to say I'm not looking forward to the PS4 - I am tremendously, but I really like what I'm seeing from the X1 right now and it feels like a big step forward in terms of usability and functionality overall.

I will chuckle when Xbox Live crumbles on day 1 despite them boasting about being backed by all the servers in the world.

If Xbox Live can handle CoD games coming out and 4 million people downloading an update, I'm sure it can handle 1-1.5 million users coming on and logging in and downloading an update. ;p Especially if they were honest about increasing the server counts by more than 10x the previous amount.

I have some faith in the servers this time around. I also have high hopes of sales numbers for the thing, as you can see. :p

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
Probably hyping up for some clicks.

Especially since he said that it came off harsher than he meant it to be. I don't think he was implying how good or bad the console was in quality.

EDIT: Beaten by a danwarb!

Although I don't quite share the same enthusiasm as getting the equivalent of a windows phone is for my console as some posters here that ui is very slick..seems to have ps4 speed with a lot more features up and ready and generally much more rounded. Sony has so e catching up to do with features and customizations. Interesting gen this will be, but I'm not going gaga over a pretty ui, my Mac mini is already hooked up to my tv, nothing on either system too impressive so far other than users getting the power of word of mouth through streaming. X1 Could be big with the tv watching crowd though...man what's gonna happen??!

So Amazon is putting Day One editions back on preorder tomorrow morning at 8 AM EST, I'm assuming for Friday delivery. Sort of considering picking one up now.

I'm really only semi-interested in Forza and KI, but I'm one of those people who buys everything on Day One. Don't know what to do.

I'm really tempted to get one of these when Titanfall hits... But man, $500. I think I'll hold out, but I'll be jealous of you all.

Actually I'll be surprised if they go down like the PSN launch did. For the most part the server side platform behind X1 has been running for a number of years in terms of infrastructure.

If it went down I'd guess it'll be a code issue not a performance/redundancy or server issue as such. The platform coding is the new part the Azure hardware/datacentres etc not so much. I think they're well prepared for the launch load itself.

As the next generation continues I think we're going to see a big difference between PSN still being P2P and X1 giving players/developers dedis the world over. I wonder if this aspect is going to be the dark horse or ace in the hole for online gamers...

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Not having twitch stuff at launch is the biggest bummer to me, but it seemed like the writing was on the wall regarding that so I've been expecting it at this point.

So now, I'm just ready to play some games and getting more excited. Dead Rising 3, KI, and Mario 3D World on friday is insane.

A UI shouldn't be a "feature", the less intrusive the better, snappy, accurate, reliable, that's all you need.

I've just bought a laptop, my first experience of Windows 8.0 (now 8.1), looks nice, but the tiles & apps, are nothing more than an inconvenience, getting in the way of accessing the desktop as quickly as I would like.

Speech recognition, that's the definition of a gimmick, most of us have it on our phones these days, I doubt many have actually used the feature, after the initial novelty value.

It's also worth pointing out UI's, and all that's associated with them, evolve over time, it's not a set in stone feature set.

Are Eneloops better than buying those play and charge kits? I'm genuinely curious because I saw Eneloops at Costco for around $25-$30 with around 8 AA's and some AAA's and it comes with a charger.

If you don't mind changing out batteries every now and then, then I would say so. I've used Eneloops in my 360 controllers for a year or so now and love how they don't lose much of their charge if you're not using the controller for long periods of time.

Compared to the 360 official rechargeables, yea, Eneloops are way better. Cheaper and they last longer. Always ready to go in anything.

Not sure how they will compare to the new XB1 rechargeables. I'll be using Eneloops either way.

Kinda just talking to myself here but after not owning a console for a few years I'm ready to get a next gen one. I honestly have no idea which to get. I am a graphics whore but I'm assuming they are too close to be noticeable?
