Crimson Dragon has been met with some pretty poor scores but I'm still willing to give it a chance, I love me some rail shooters.

I dont think it was ever going to review well, its a game from another age and also obviously a straight 360 port.

A UI shouldn't be a "feature", the less intrusive the better, snappy, accurate, reliable, that's all you need.

I've just bought a laptop, my first experience of Windows 8.0 (now 8.1), looks nice, but the tiles & apps, are nothing more than an inconvenience, getting in the way of accessing the desktop as quickly as I would like.

Speech recognition, that's the definition of a gimmick, most of us have it on our phones these days, I doubt many have actually used the feature, after the initial novelty value.

It's also worth pointing out UI's, and all that's associated with them, evolve over time, it's not a set in stone feature set.

Speak for yourself. Some of us have come to love the idea of having everything integrated in a snappy, attractive UI that oozes quality and makes you want to use it. I will definitely use features like snap and some of the voice commands.

Kinda just talking to myself here but after not owning a console for a few years I'm ready to get a next gen one. I honestly have no idea which to get. I am a graphics whore but I'm assuming they are too close to be noticeable?

PEGGLE 2!
In December

Until then? Cars = Forza, Zombies = Dead Rising, BIG TITS = Killer Instinct and Sexy Roman soldiers and graphics = Ryse

Are Day One edition games something certain retailers have exclusive deals on? Right now aside from the console I have Dead Rising 3 Day One on Amazon and I don't get paid again until Friday. Basically I want to buy Forza 5 and Ryse (pending reviews, on the fence) but not until last minute. What are the chances of finding these editions?

Um, where did I say UI was a feature? I said in terms of usability and functionality the XB1 is looking really good.

If you don't mind changing out batteries every now and then, then I would say so. I've used Eneloops in my 360 controllers for a year or so now and love how they don't lose much of their charge if you're not using the controller for long periods of time.

That sounds great! I actually switched to wired 360 controllers because the battery packs were hit or miss.

I'm an Xbox guy at heart but I won't deny the PS4 has more grunt in the hardware area, thus it'll generally reach 1080p easier than the X1.
This probably won't be an issue next year I believe as dev's get better at developing for specific hardware, but I could be wrong.

However if you are a graphics guy and gameplay comes second to you I'd go the PC route anyday as a console can't beat a PC in that aspect.

For me though I prefer gameplay anyday over graphics, and I just prefer the games the X1offers over the PS4.

I'm getting Fifa and KI but not sure what else to get. Ryse, DR3, and Ass.Creed look like rentals to me. Forza could be an option if the reviews are solid.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.

Was my favorite game at the X1 area one event, if you like rail shooters you're going to like this. That's pretty much what it boils down to IMO. I had to stop myself from playing too much so that I could try out other games.

So Amazon is putting Day One editions back on preorder tomorrow morning at 8 AM EST, I'm assuming for Friday delivery. Sort of considering picking one up now.

I'm really only semi-interested in Forza and KI, but I'm one of those people who buys everything on Day One. Don't know what to do.
Do it!

Yep best thing is I just pull my Eneloops out of my 360 controllers and plop them into the new ones. No fuss no muss.

Totally agree. I hate hate having to worry about plugging the controller in while I'm still playing if the battery dies. Rechargeable AAs is where it's at.

How much has been shown about Kinect acting as a universal remote? I want to be able to turn on music before I even take off my shoes after work. So say something like:

Xbox On, Xbox Music, Artist: A Wilhelm Scream, Album: Partycrasher

Will it turn on my TV, and receiver to the correct inputs. Start Xbox Music and play the artist?

A great UI isn't necessarily a feature to be, but it is a great selling point as the better it is the more likely I am to use and enjoy it.
Things like snap will be exciting for me so I can Skype, watch YouTube etc. while playing a game.

I hardly think speech recognition is a gimmick, it was once though. These days I use Siri all the time. It is 100x easier to set a reminder or calender event with Siri than it is to do it yourself, likewise with calling people and texting people whilst driving which I can do hands free.

Granted a lot of people won't use the speec recognition, however if it is done right and good I expect more will gradually use it over time if it is a convenience thing.

Huge relief, Logitech is going to have codes for the Xbox for Harmony remotes. Last piece of my puzzle was how this was going to make a mess of my AV setup.

Just got an email from Amazon about making sure your payment method and delivery address are correct as they are shipping soon. hopefully tomorrow!!!

You can boot direct to desktop with 8.1

So Kinect can turn my receiver on/off too? That is actually pretty cool.

Does anyone know how Kinect detects channels and distinguishes between SD and HD? Like for example I say "Xbox, ESPN". How does Kinect know to go to my HD ESPN channel and not the SD channel?

I think you can set favorites?

I think you can designate if it only goes to HD channels or SD. I know Comcast reports channels as HD or SD and you can filter out SD with their tablet app so I'm assuming the OneGuide should be able to do that.

Nothing to do with 2013, they chose it to be that way as they like to give options. They've said that enough.

The option to waste money on batteries or spend extra money on something that should probably be packed in the box?

Doesn't the PS4 controller only last like 8 hours or something? I think Microsoft made the right decision with this one

No idea, I don't own a PS4. But I don't think it's hard to plug in the controller when you're done playing to charge up, most people don't have 8 hour long marathon sessions.

I'd be down to make a review thread for the hardware/ui if nobody else wants to. It's going to get real interesting pretty soon here.

Didn't realize the controller doesn't have a built-in battery, kind of surprising in 2013

Look at it this way, if the charging port stops working on a DS4, your options are limited to either sending it in for warranty replacement, or buying a new one. If the charging port on an XBO controller stops working, I can swap out AA's or AA rechargables and have no missing functionality.

This is why Apple and other manufacturers get a lot of heat by making their batteries built-in. If something breaks and you're out of warranty, you either try to fix it yourself, or buy a new one.

It's frustrating when you forget to charge your controller and then you need to be tethered to the console if you want to play.

Anybody know - does the IR blaster for the cable box sit within the Kinect or is it a seperate feed? I'm wondering how a line of sight signal like infrared is going to work with my setup as it is shelved and I want the Kinect up high.

Why do people insist on coming in here and arguing against people that are excited for the console? It's a real party proper. I doubt very many were going into the ps4 thread and trying to rain on the parade. Why can't everyone celebrate next gen together

What I expect from reviews is that the Twitch streaming might be a big deal and some will like Kinect others will say they had mixed results.

Kinect blasts the IR, and apparently your box can be under the Kinect and still work. It blasts it off the walls.

It's part of the Kinect. It's high-intensity enough that it should bounce around your room several times to reach your components.

Remember that movie Entrapment, where that Welsh tart has to crawl under all the laser beams so she doesn't set off the burglar alarms with her bum? Your Kinect does all that invisibly and seems unperturbed by line of sight.
