Xbox One Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Hey guys....every time I boot up the Xbox One(cold boot) as I shut all my electronics off after use...and insert a game like dead rising 3, it crashes with no message.

Then if I start the game back up again it is all fine, this happens every damn time, I have noticed it is during the sign-in process or trying to access my internet.

Is this normal? Should I be shitting bricks that my disc is faulty or even worse my console?

It's not a surprise. I'm saying that for all the shit the Xbox One had thrown at it about graphics etc it ended up with the best looking launch title out of all the consoles.

Missed the microsoft store sale Xbox live gold sale ( how long did that even last?!).

Saw the amazon "deal" for xblg, but I'm trying to stay digital and want to limited my full price game purchases so not really a deal for me.

Any word on gold sales for the next couple days?

Only a week left for my 2 week gold trial :/

I think this is a very interesting point. It strikes me that, as a hyper engaged enthusiast community, GAF has depicted the difference between the PS4 and the XB1 as the difference between a Mclaren and a skateboard. The reality is that it's really the difference between a Mclaren and a high powered Audi. To the specialist community, the difference is night and day. To the non specialist community, they're both really nice cars. Ones nicer than the other, definitely, but the other ones still an Audi.

I started Ryse today after finishing DR3 and needing a break before Nightmare mode, and I'm really impressed so far. The combat is a lot more enjoyable than I expected.

Ya, it'll probably get repetitive during the 2nd half. But it can be very satisfying and is overall a solid combat system. I'm confident we'll see a sequel that Crytek gets to spend more development time on to add variety.

Have you tried it yet? I'm actually really enjoying it - it's cracking me up. Definitely not a system seller, but it's gotten a bad rap from reviewers, in my opinion.

Ugh, so yeah my play and charge kit wire is already faulty. It only charges when I have the wire in a specific angle, I hav3 taken care of the remote as best I can so I don't see how it is already having problems, I don't wrap the wire up or anything. I doubt I can get a replacement?

Really loving the X1, except for my sign in issues coming from stand-by and my missing VIP Forza pass. Kinda glad there are no games until Feb/March. Too much to play as it is right now.

Has anyone had any issues with their controller maintaining a connection with the console? I keep getting messages popping up saying lost connection with controller and at first I thought it was low batteries, but that was not the case.

I'm really enjoying my Xb1. A couple of pleasant suprises. I knew I was going to really enjoy Ryse due to me being primarily focused on campaign modes and graphics, but I have been blown away by DR3. The game is fantastic. I like how there is less emphasis on time limits. My wife and I are really enjoying both of those games, beyond that I love Forza, with drivatar and some of the cool cloud and community integration. Crimson Dragon is rich up my ally. It is a grind, but I like that type of game. Finally, my most shocking title is Lococycle. Love Twisted Pixel, but looked too bland. Bought it with an extra gift card balance. Really enjoy it. Story is hilarious and not as repetitive as some have been claiming. Imo worth $20. All in all I am really enjoying the new console. I am reinvigorated to the videogame scene. Can't wait for what is to come next. Just glad all next Gen consoles are released, now people can enjoy the games and lay off fanboy bashing...a little haha.

Guys what is going on....Dead Rising 3 keeps crashing, I have to boot up the game 3-4 times before it finally starts.

Is this a faulty disc drive? or Maybe the files are corrupt? Please I'm being paranoid here I just need to know if there is a fix to this.

i got it today and put a couple of hours in. i really enjoy it so far for what it is, just wish I could play legendary righg from the start.


Any word on when HBO go will be available? I really wanted that app for launch.

yeah, I'm enjoying much more than the reviewers let on that I *should* (hence why I hate reviews). I'll admit, it IS a bit tedious, but I've had fun so far. I sort of see it in the same vein as Infinity Blade. Really pretty and shallow, but precise on the combat.

That's a vague question. It's not "sold out" depending on where you look. They have a complete bundle on Microsoft.com, which is pricier than a console by itself (but you get to choose 2 games and you get 12 months of live/3 years warranty).

So I thought they said way before x1 comes out that challenges were different than achievements, why when I look at my app does DR3 have 1 more trophy than achievements unlocked? Basically it's counting the challenge as one of the achievements it seems like. Just a lil OCD, but I know I won't get the other 2 challenges so it bothers me..

The impression that I get is that highly populated areas have a much higher supply of Xbox Ones. My town is totally sold out. I waited in line at our local Best Buy for their Black Friday launch, and they only had 7 consoles in the entire store. The line for Xbox Ones was longer than 7 people. I was lucky to be #5 in line, so I got one. The rest of my city is still sold out.

I hooked up Kinect, but I did not "set it up" or calibrate it. It still recognizes all my voice commands and recognizes who I am without a proper calibration or setup. I'll set it up later, after MS repairs the faulty disc drive.

Well I got one today at Best Buy and they had 10 total. I guess they held 3 over from the release last week for today. But evidently 7 people never picked up preorders and they were all notified and all of the people said they could release them. Or at least thats what the guy checking me out said.

Also, I bought that $899 bundle at BB because I was getting the warranty, an extra controller and two games anways. How does this Best Buy gamer thing work? It doesnt show up when I log into my account on bestbuy.com, and there was nothing physical they gave me either, but its on the receipt. Confused.

Does anyone know if there is an app or program that can use a webcam or camera to read text and then convert that text to a QR code?

I tested a DLC code for Battlefield today - converting it to a QR code and holding that code up to my Kinect works perfectly. To make the process 100% foolproof, I figure it would be awesome if I could use a camera to read text and then input that into the QR code.

I know the technology exists - on iDevices most of the new ones can read iTunes Credit straight off the card using the camera only. Wondering if something exists for any computer just to make redeeming codes easy.

Finally getting hit with the battlefield 4 crashes. When I bought the game everything was great. Went two days with no crashes. Now, I get a crash every single game. Dunno why. Something I've noticed is, usually it happens when I die, and I spam the A button to hurry back and respawn (sometimes I do this when I get frustrated). I know, not smart. You should always look at your spawn point (but I usually do this in Team Deathmatch).

Anyways, going to play again and NOT do that. See if it stops the crashing. If not, I guess it's just a bad day.

I'm kind of itching for a good RPG. Probably the only omission from launch. Assassin's Creed 4 kiiiiiiiiiiiiinda cuts it, but not quite. What is up first: Witcher 3 or Dragon Age 3? I'll probably need to have played the other Dragon Age games, right? I have Dragon Age and Witcher 2 on PC, I just can't be bothered to play RPGs at a desk.

I assume you mean it not reading discs? I believe that happens right away. Out of the box. I haven't heard of anyone having a functioning Xbox One that just stopped reading discs? I thought they wouldn't read discs out of the box.

To clarify, the blu ray drive isn't failing. The physical parts aren't sitting right in the shell. That's the reason why the grinding issue exists. Some people have been able to fix it by flipping the xbox one on its other side, and pounding on the spot where the drive sits.
