Xbox One new marketing, a Kinectless version and a game for 400? CBOAT: Maybe

Another Cboat post where he adds a disclaimer to cover himself in case it turns out to be BS and you lot lose your minds...smh

Didn't ntkrnl reveal this already anyway?

He didnt say anything about it which is why id take this with a truck of salt, cboat isnt right all the time. Most of what ntkrnl prophesied has come true, just waiting for titan fall bundle to be either debunked or made official to make my mind up on him.

Hmm. The only way I could see them waiting on this is if TitanFall moves a miraculous number of systems. Unless something has changed, that's all they've got since Sony has the co-marketing deal for Watch Dogs and of course Infamous before that.

They've got co-marketing for Destiny too, which will be huge.

Are they or is a $399 vs $499 price? Spec war all you want, the $100 difference is killing sales of the Xbox One.

At price parity, you still have to prove value. And it's not like xbox has some sort of exclusive battle won.

I mean shouldn't the $99 Gamecube have skyrocketed?

They are now.

Correlation does not imply causation. We've see enough gens play out to know tech specs or price alone aren't determining factors for victory, it's usually a lot of things. And if tech specs were really that important we'd all be playing PCs.

It likely has more to do with the price, Sony's pedigree for exclusives, not making a single misstep in the last year, and Xbox One being so expensive. Even with a price drop on Xbone Microsoft has to contend with PS4's goodwill and momentum. Tough road ahead for MS unless they have some killer games up their sleeve with that Kinect-less SKU and price drop.

Kinect 2.0 is easily worth an extra $100 - for exercise games alone. I'm loving Xbox Fitness. Dropping the Kinect would be a mistake me thinks

Meant for the now closed thread, re: this notion that Kinect is a "differentiator":

MS squandered whatever opportunity Kinect as a differentiator offered them. Sony could easily muddy the waters in terms of the distinctions it provides between the platforms, in no small part because MS has given them ample time to catch up. There's not going to be a meaningful, decent-sized catalog of Kinect-specific software anytime soon given the rate they're going and the rest is just OS-level stuff that Sony already matches in large part and can achieve much closer parity through future updates. They can partner with someone like Google for video chat in heartbeat, for example. Simple checklist marketing could easily reduce the whole Kinect differentiator to a footnote without much effort.

Hmm. Still betting it's not gonna happen. They've spent so much effort prioritizing the Kinect up to this point, and the key to success is ensuring it's in every SKU on shelves. Letting it go now is calling defeat on a multi-million dollar investment - and that's only happening if their sales are absolutely abysmal.

The sales drop in January is to be expected. No new software, post-Xmas lull, general disinterest... But once Titanfall drops, none of that is to be concerned.

Totally agree. I never meant to imply that it was ONLY the power. But at price parity it will play a part IMO.

If SONY hammers home the power difference in ads, whoooboy.

Maybe they took over his GAF account. I don't know what to believe anymore!!

maybe now he is a ROBO-CBOAT

and was formated for MS

No because it came so late into a Playstation 2 dominated generation that it was bound to struggle as did the original Xbox.

I can understand their concern. The one is losing in the former main market (US / UK) and is getting stomped everywhere else.

Will Titanfall change this ? If the trend continues after this game, be sure to see a kinectless version sooner than later.

Couple that with the continued reports that insiders want MS to bail put of the industry or sell the brand and the fact that internal strife within MS is sure to continue and yeah, it's quite a fight.

It's going to be a Dodo unless the price is slashed, the word is out there, it's not as powerful as a PS4. Without Kinect the Value ratio plummets.

No, Titanfall being on 2 other platforms limits its effectiveness to be a system seller for the Xbox One. Had Microsoft been able to get the game solely on the Xbox One, then yes it would have made an impact.

It's a shame Microsoft has to do this. Kinect voice commands are actually pretty neat.

you shouldn't need Kinect to do voice commands. Just let people use a headset, problem solved.

The rest so far has been comically gimmicky gestures and horrendous titles like Fighters, so they should abandon ship.

I know I'm probably the only person here who would say this... but without Kinect there's pretty much nothing about the X1 that I'm interested in. I'm betting that if they release a Kinectless version then you can pretty much guarantee that devs will stop bothering to use it (or even trying). If that's the way it goes then I reckon I'll definitely never end up picking one up.

It seems like a long time has passed since we got any significant Sony leaks (good or bad). Most of the leaking has tilted strongly toward the Xbox side of things. It gets kind of dull hearing only negative Xbox news all the time.

If this starts spreading around they are going to have to get out front of it and deny it, or crater sales even more by virtue of more people holding off for a drop/kinectless version until May/June.

A 10 year old remake? Who does that appeal to besides Halo fans that were going to buy an Xbox One regardless?

Are there a lot of people like that? 'Cause I can't stop hearing about how Halo 4 was this terrible, awful game that may as well not even be Halo and how Destiny, on the other hand, is lookin' real good.

And right now, Sony is setting up Destiny to be a PS game in the same way CoD is an Xbox game.

For the record though: I loved Halo 4 and I don't deny there are still a lot of diehards will do exactly what you say.

Sony has really tightened up on leaks since the PS3 days. I prefer being legitimately surprised at E3.

Oh well, I forgot that.

That's it then.

Price cut leaks will just doom the console until the price cuts happen.
If MS drops kinect i see that as a big step back, the xbox is kinect at this point.
They will most likely cut keeping kinect and just taking a hit on revenue to gain market share.

No because it came so late into a Playstation 2 dominated generation that it was bound to struggle as did the original Xbox.

The point that price alone doesn't matter still stands when you consider that Gamecube was $100 cheaper and more powerful than PS2 when it released just 18 months later, and still was met with a lukewarm reception.

Sony has a reputation among gamers for great games and value across a number of demographics. They've played all their cards right and deserve the success. It wouldn't be right if they were losing in any way.

Yeah, that's exactly how the PS4 handles voice commands, but I hate the idea of having to wear headphones all the time. Perhaps they could build a mic into the box itself.

About the gestures, they don't work for me half the time, and honestly they're counterintuitive.

Kinect, in my opinion, isn't at a stage yet to be able to fulfill Microsoft's vision or meet people's expectations. It's simply not accurate enough. I'd like to see Microsoft keep working on it though.

I don't believe they'll give up Kinect. I think they're just going to suck up losing 100 bucks. It's MS. They have the money. They should of done that from the get go.

Not even close to the same. I'm not coming in the house and then grabbing a head set to make commands to turn on my everything. I walk in the room home from work and say Xbox On... EVERYTHING turns on. My TV, receiver and Direct TV all turn on. Having to put a head set on imo is not the same as just walking into a room and just start saying commands. It's an awesome feature if you have your whole home entertainment system hooked up to it.

Ah fuck, wasn't in the other thread anymore and missed a FREAKIN' CBOAT POST AGGGHHH

missed a chance to spam my usual image

Anyway, woah, if this is true, that's desperation mode at full throttle right there. A huge if, of course.
