Xbox One- what would it take to get YOU to buy one ?

Would you buy a mobile phone that took AAA batteries?

Well if it would last 5-6 times as long (that's roughly the difference between ds4 and x1 controller for me) which means I would have to switch the batteries out every 8-9 days instead of charging the phone every damn day because otherwise it will be empty during the following day. and it wouldn't make the phone thicker, yes, a 1000x yes, I would...

The more i think about it the better this gets, imagine it needing 2 batteries for 8 days and you are going on a trip and taking 4 fully charged ones with you.... That would be absolutely amazing!

Edit: oh and if the batteries break, you just buy new ones for 4 bucks. I like the way you are thinking man!

I actually miss the days where I can just swap the battery out of my phone...I used to carry spare batteries for camping trips or situations where I couldn't charge my phone.

Maybe I'm generalizing, but it seems that the majority of people stating they'd never purchase an Xbox One come from PC-centric European gamers.

I think this is a good opportunity to see what MS has to do to expand their marketshare.

1. Europeans felt abandoned when MS touted their U.S.-centric features like the NFL and American TV partnerships.

2. The rumored NSA tie-in (which has affected Euros and Germans in particular more) was like a poison pill for MS.

3. This shouldn't come as a surprise considering the Euro Sony to MS sales ratio.

I know there are many Xbox One supporters on here aghast at the responses so far, but I wouldn't take it as personally considering that the majority of derision might be coming from a market that feels completely abandoned by the Xbox brand and Microsoft.

Video game message boards on the internet have a much larger international presence than most news sites. It's something I've come to realize since this last console reveal.

Alright. I'm sold.

That sounds so good.

I honestly can't think of a reason to buy one. I have a gaming PC, PS4 and would really like to get a Wii u.

I used to like the Halo games, but haven't been able to finish one since 3. I just find them so boring to play now. I was literally falling asleep playing 4.

Never liked Gears of War for some reason, only played half of the first and did actually complete the second but it was instantly forgettable.

Any other upcoming games I would be interested in might come to PC. If they don't, so be it.

Nothing. I appreciate that they have done a huge 180, but their original intent has left a bad taste in my mouth. I may purchase the next XBOX if it's more like the 360, but I will not purchase XBOne because of what they tried to do with it.

Good question.
I'm trying to show how dated the idea is (to me). I honestly felt that they dropped the ball here with the 360.

The benefit of never ever having to plug a wire into my controller to keep gaming is enormous. I just get a fresh set of eneloops from the charger and keep on truckin'. I actually HAVE a play and charge kit, and I NEVER use it because the Eneloops are so much more convenient. Screw unswapable batteries in controllers.

I picked up my PS3 controller the other day and it was dead. I decided to do something else. It's still dead since the PS3 won't charge it unless it's on. If I could have put in a fresh set of recharged batteries, I would have been gaming in a few seconds.

I'd need at least 2-3 years of exclusives available (XB1 only) and a price of $199 before I would consider purchasing it as a secondary console. That's assuming that the exclusives are any good . It would never be used for anything other then XB1 exclusives so if they keep releasing "Exclusives" which show up on PC the next year I doubt I'll ever pick it up.

price lower to account for weaker hardware, games that appeal to me that aren't on PC (currently the only exclusive I had interest in was KI and when I got around to playing it I was disappointed) and a controller with built in rechargeable battery not sold separately.

Honestly though, Microsoft chaffed me so bad with the original plan for the xbox one that I'm pretty sure I'll be waiting until next generation before being willing to give MS another chance. They can just hangout with sega in my do not buy list until then.

I bought a wired controller within two weeks of getting my 360. Different strokes and all that.

Lost Odyssey is what made me buy a 360. Granted, I bought my 360 on a sale really cheap several years after Lost Odyssey was released, but I did eventually buy it.

If Xbox One get a similiar exclusive JRPG that I feel I must buy, then I will no doubt buy a Xbox One eventually too.

Games. Exclusive games. REAL exclusive games. I have a PS4, Wii U and capable PC. My multiplat gaming is covered. I'd only be buying a bone for things that will never come to any other platform, and Halo/Gears/Forza just don't do it for me.

This is pretty much where I'm at. Even if they got some great exclusives, at this point I would just wait until the end of the gen to get it cheap.

US Xbox 360 owner here. I'm a one console per generation guy and already bought a PS4. There's no realistic way they could get me to buy an Xbox One. I think "A day late and a dollar short", is the appropriate saying.

Edit: to clarify, if they had launched without Kinect and $50 less than the PS4 (to account for the weaker hardware) and announced the MCC instead of the 343 sequel...Then there's a good chance I would have bought into the Xbox One at launch.

This is me exactly. I'm not a huge fan of their flagship titles. I would buy them if I had an Xbox one, but those alone won't sell me on it. I'll probably get one in a few years from now when they're $199-$250, same as I did with the 360.

Nothing that's realistic. Even if you remove their past mistakes it's still clear I'm not their target audience which I suppose is fine (although I don't get why it's so American-centric).

The WiiU will almost certainly be my next buy. I think I'll probably get a PS4 quite a long time after that as it will go well with my Vita and I'll have a library of PS+ games built up by then, if Sony fail to win me over then I'll look into building a gaming PC.
The XB1 is a long way down the list, they're making some moves in the right direction and for the first time in years I'm likely to look at some exclusives with jealousy (well at least Sunset Overdrive and Ori anyway) but there are only so many games I can play and so much money I can spend on them.

Scalebound is coming, so I will have to get one sooner than I wanted. It's not going to be secondary or tertiary but it's whatever the word for "seventh thing" is (PC, vita, ps4, wii u, ps3, 3ds, xbox one) so for me to actually buy the damn thing they're going to have to come up with something more interesting than what they have lined up for the next few years.

I think they're getting close. The Halo collection is tempting, but it also is a bitter pill to swallow. I mean, they took Halo 2 multiplayer away, only to resell it again. If I could use my original Halo 2 disc maybe I would feel that this is more than a cash-grab. Also, while your at it, I'd like my OG Xbox DLC that I paid for (ie. All the maps for H2, all the DDR song packs and a couple of other random items).

The more I think about it, they don't have a much of a chance of winning me back.

What it would take for me is another price-drop or 3-4 exclusive games that are interesting to me.

I already have one, Killer Instinct, Ryse, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Dead Rising and Titanfall are incredible games. And my wife loves Kinect. i wish every device had a voice command like kinect. For me XBox its a no brainer choice. Later i will buy a PS4, but i will wait for better games.

Just enough games that interest me. I bought a PS4 on launch but I haven't gotten as much play time out of it as I wanted. I kind of just got it because I am a sucker for new gadgets. I know it will be worth it in the long run though.

I know I will get an Xbox One eventually, but I am going to wait until there is enough games to keep me busy for awhile.

In the mean time, I am probably going to build a new PC.

A smaller form factor with a bigger internal HDD + exclusive JRPGs.

All of this impossible stuff stuff, but barring that I can imagine buying one in the future after a price drop if Microsoft develops new exclusive IPs that are as strong or stronger than as Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect (well that first one was exclusive for a bit on the 360 at least).

barring that, give me 4 or 5 good exclusives that don't require XBL Gold (I ain't paying for that AND PS+) and a price drop and I might stick one of these things under my TV.

To be fair, AFAIK, every single bit of DLC will be included in the master chief collection.

And what's the point of getting DDR DLC? Not like it's backwards compatible.
i wish it was tho :( DDR Ultramix 2 and 4 were my favorite DDR games in the entire series.

Wow this thread has over a thousand replies!

Is there anyway to get the post counts per person ?

Assuming you're on the desktop version of the forum, go back to the thread list, look for this thread, and then click the post count towards the right side. Should bring up a popup of people who posted / how many times.

MS never forced anything down anyone's throats. That's the most hilarious part. They revealed their plan for the future and not many people liked it, so they changed.
MS certainly shoved it down their hardware team's throat. They changed policy only after the hardware design was already set in stone and hamstrung by the need to throttle performance for the sake of cost-effectiveness determined by now defunct policies. The impact of that will plague the XBO for entirety of this generation.

I can't think of many examples of an industry essentially run by one company that didn't screw over it's consumers, I doubt video games and Sony would be the exception. Just look at what they did after they dominated in the PS2 era.
They released a >900 USD console for 600 USD. How exactly did they screw over the consumer? Sure, engineering had too much control with the project, and it was still way too expensive. But compared to buying three consoles for a total of at least 1000 USD, wouldn't just one company releasing a 600 USD console every five years be preferable?
599.00 USD, have we forgotten?

And you don't have to buy multiple consoles. I'm not buying a PS4 till there's a drastic price drop. There's nothing on the system that interests me that I can't play elsewhere.

At the end of the day console makers are in it for the cheese. If they are the only game in town, they are going to take you to the cleaners. It's not that hard to figure out.
My example presupposes that there are games you want to play on all three systems, of course.

backwards compatibility with the 360 (even if only similar to what we got from XB->360) and I'd buy one right now.
As it stands though, BC is likely not ever going to happen so I guess the easiest answer is "when it's cheaper"

Well, MS finally suckered me in with the MCC announcement and accompanying vids. So, I picked one up (w/ Kinnect, Forza 5, and a 1-yr Live code) last week.

I have to say it's a mixed bag, but overall, I'm happy with my purchase. The XO is now the main consumer electronics device of my living room, although I still have to use my Intel NUC for streaming vids/music. The TV integration works very well and my live-in girlfriend likes it a lot, even though modern-day gaming is a foreign concept to her... The fact that I can play Forza 5 or Powerstar golf and snap whatever TV show or movie she is watching at the time, or even Netflix, is a feature I never thought I would value so much.

The voice commands make me feel like I finally have the living room of the future that I always imagined as a child. However, it's not as accurate as it should be, currently, for consumer release. I can also see the novelty of voice commands wearing out soon enough, unfortunately.

The dashboard does give me that sense of "Live" and community connection in a way, which is something I always liked about the 360. I also like that the Marketplace is integrated with Twitch.tv and seems more intuitive than other "app stores".

I also really, really like the gamepad (dem triggers!). I didn't think I would after reading a couple of "opinion" pieces about it. But, I should know better than put any kind of stock into other people's rants/reviews....especially something as subjective as how a piece of plastic feels in your hands.

That being said, if the Xbox One wasn't as feature-rich and had to rely solely on games and game performance for its reputation, I don't think the Halo franchise would be enough for me to have jumped in. The thing is, I have really been enjoying the games so far and usually gravitate to the XO when I'm in the mood to play something. This may be mostly due to the fact that I've only had it for a week, I have 3 new games that are fresh to me, and consider the gamepad to be my favorite of this gen.

TL;DR:

Halo franchise and TV/Netflix snapping abilities.

lots of games that I enjoy and I also need to see how the NFL Network's HD/60fps football streaming works out and all the details about it. that is a surprising system seller for me.

Before the reveals I was pretty sure I'd go with xbox this gen. However, the difference in power and the 8 gb GDDR 5 bombshell almost made my decision for me there and then. MS Tv Tv Tv message sealed the deal.
Only if the Azure server compute (powah of teh clouds) can really make a huge difference to games will I buy one,but to say I'm sceptical is an understatement.

I already got one for the occasional exclusive like Halo 5, Forza Motorsport and things like that. I plan on learning a bit of Japanese so importing a few shumps of the ones that somehow get released on it would be cool too.

Games with Gold gives me free stuff to play as well.

Exclusive RPG/jRPG (Not Fable). Price drop to 300 or 350$ if there's a few games I want. If Lost Odyssey 2 would come out I'd buy one regardless of price.

Enough games on PS3/4 and PC thank you.

It's really hard to just say "games" nowadays as there are hardly any 3rd party exclusives (don't give a crap about DLC exclusives) and nothing MS does internally excites me.

Yes they have Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break as 3rd party. Latter having a better chance to put an XB1 in my room but I'm just not getting the hype when I got so much to play already.

It's gotta be something REAAALLLYYYY special, and they haven't shown it yet. And they probably never will (though I hope they do because it would mean I get unbelievably excited about a game).

Heh, yeah they slowly started killing off internal studios, or selling them off to other publishers. I'm guessing it was to save money? but looking back on what all those now defunct studios did for xbox (OG) and x360. I really wonder if they knew they were going to kill their hardware division by not having any exclusive software. [/semi-hyperpole]

(I have an xb1, and not that jazzed about it tbh, but I purchase the platforms we ship on.)

A lower price, obviously. More non-American(in my case Canadian) non-gaming centric Kinect and TV/Cable/Sports integration.

I am a PC gamer & I have a WiiU. Microsoft cannot sell me an other game machine. My experiences in that department are already covered.

I gotta say almost nothing would.......with my PS3, PS4, VIta and PC I'm so good to go and have such a backlog. I wouldnt get one unless it was....say......$50 bucks then I'd play sunset overdrive then sell it.

I usually try to avoid making blanket statements, but people saying "make it $200", are just flat out ridiculous.

Granted, I do think they should price the Kinectless version lower than the PS4, but not $200 lower. That's Margot Kidder levels of crazytown.

They're still selling Xbox 360s for $200...

There honestly is not a single Xbox One game I've seen that interests me. The 360 had Alan Wake for a short time and was the only reason I bought a 360 and when that game went to PC I sold it.

I have a gaming PC and will be getting a PS4 within the next few months (it has the exclusives I care about). I can't see myself getting an Xbox One anytime in the future. Last I checked my brother feels the same, opting to go Wii U + PC after going Wii, 360 and PS3 last year (I built his gaming PC for him when this gen was released and mostly uses that and his Nintendo systems).

There's only 1 game that will get me to buy and that game is...

Phantom Dust

When that comes out, I will have a Xbox One, but until then... I'll wait.

Sony put $850 worth of hardware into that system for $599. I also don't know of any console ever made that was capable of playing 3 generations worth of games. 60 GB HDD while MS offered 20, wifi while MS only offered wifi for an extra $100 dongle, HDMI while MS offered none.

People get $599 stuck in their heads without realizing what was in that package. I had just bought an HD-DVD player for $1000 a few months prior. $599 was a steal against the $1000 blu-ray players that it competed with.
