Xbox One will be Number One in Sales

Microsoft reported 46 million XBL accounts when their last earnings report came out. Out of 77 million consoles sold.

Well keep in mind until the slim, they didn't have WiFi in the box, it was an accessory.

Also some people have bought multiple consoles. I've bought 3 over this Gen, but I still just have the one Live account.

And it's an idiotic argument made by people who think the Wii took off because grandma and grandpa had desperately been wanting to play video games all this time and couldn't figure out the deft movements necessary to play Tetris.

I (mostly) agree.

My point is that many seem to say the Wii-fad is over and thus Wii U is not selling, but few apply that same argument to the Kinect fad. Rather, some are arguing as if Kinect will still be relevant.

If MS stick a charge on second hand games AND then require an Internet connection I don't believe the game stores will want to support it

They will defo try and distance away from it

And for me and buying titles will be even more restricted, the market would be tighter than ever

MS really need to back paddle in the next couple of weeks and see what can be done to change this mess

we have 4 in the house . 3 of them are just streamers for media center

I resisted Steam for several years until the sales starred and that had Half-Life 2. Not getting an XBone will be easy in comparison.

Ok...so that means even less potential console sales then. Even then, i'm sure you're still talking millions. Also, you would think at some point via ethernet you would be able to connect to XBL at least a couple of times thoughrout all of those years.

I think Sterling and Angry Joe put it best on their rants that Xbone is going to need some amazing God-tier games to get people to forget about the negatives.

Microsoft were in a great place when RROD hit because they were the only game in town for so long, Sony were completely lost and there were some really great games hitting when the scandal really started to blow up.

This time they have Sony launching the same time having (seemingly) learned from their mistakes and Nintendo (potentially) bringing their A game around launch.

If they launch with a lacklustre software lineup and word of mouth about the used game DRM starts spreading they'll be dead in the water.

Xbox One is a product designed for the US market, so maybe it will have the highest sales there. The majority of the new features will be irrelevant in the rest of the world, so I doubt it will be a sales success there.

Some are forgetting it's the hardcore gamers who make or break any console in the early going. And right now, I think it's safe to say the hardcore are not happy with MS. That could change with their E3 showing, but it's one hell of a leap to say Xbone has already won the war.

As much as you hate the One right now, chances are you're going to buy one sometime during its lifespan because you are a gamer and it will be tough to resist when all is said and done. Here's five reasons why the One will top the charts:

Kinect 2.0
Kinect 2.0 will be the next Wiimote. The new Dance Central and Kinect Sports will be just the tip of the iceberg. MS knows they need a few more killer apps to start the avalanche effect and that's exactly what they have been working on in the hopes of having the next "Wii Sports" phenomenon on their hands. No other system can provide this type of mass market offering for grandma and little tommy alike.

Power of Dudebro
The biggest franchises out there will be on One. Some of them will be on the PS4, sure, but there's nowhere else where you'll find Halo, COD, Gears, Madden, etc. all on one console. Don't underestimate the dudebros who continue to fuel the yearly installments of COD, etc. and play it on the 360/PS3 instead of playing superior graphical versions on PC. The hardcore may care about FPS and res and such, but dudebro's don't.

Marketing
Wii U already has a flat tire so only the PS4 is in the way from topping the charts. Wii U will rebound a bit, no doubt, and PS4 is formidable, but Microsoft already proved it can maneuver around Sony whenever it needs to to maintain sales momentum whether that comes in the form of advertisements, aggressive price cuts and promos, or marketing deals with publishers. Microsoft has the deeper pockets and it's looking like they may have a price advantage all gen long.

Exclusives
There will be a bunch of One exclusives, moneyhat variety or otherwise. A handful of those will be hard to resist for even the biggest Sony or Nintendo fan so gamers will give in whether they like it or not. There's already been talk of Microsoft opening the wallet for Respawn's game and possibly Dead Rising 3. We know Ryse is coming and sounds like Insomniac and others may have exclusive stuff in the works.

Innovation
Microsoft were big innovators with the 360, whether people want to admit it or not and it's looking like they will keep that trend going. Gamers who think that Sony won't follow suit with the used games restrictions are fooling themselves. The future is here. You will either support it or not (see Steam). Dedicated servers, dynamic achievements, in-game skype and internet feeds, video sharing, cloud enhancements, clean and snappy interface, real-time multitasking/switching, smart TV, etc., etc. Few companies will be able to match the One's online gaming experience, but it will come at a cost, of course.

yeeeeaaah I highly doubt that as the ONE has several deal breakers.

Nice try though.

I can see Microsoft coming out on top, but it will be a bad thing for gamers if they do, what with them prioritizing and emphasizing everything but games. If thats how things end up, its a grim future. For me. if you watch sports broadcasts while skyping and playing halo, lucky you.

None of the TV stuff really appeals to me, being in Canada half of it probably won't work anyway.

But I'll be getting one. I am part of the problem! I will also be getting a PS4, so am I part of the solution?

Which fanboy camp am I supposed to be in?

It blows my mind that Used game policy has this much effect on people. I don't know anyone who buys used games regularly. I am not sure if it's my circle of friends and their own crusade to support developers over game stores or what. It's very interesting to me how pissed off everyone seems to be about this.

Idgaf about used games at all. If the console can deliver steam like marketplace with sales and all I'd be very happy.

I think both systems are going to undersell expectations initially and put most gamers in a panic. So long as we aren't being set up for a crash I don't care who wins. I'll buy every system next gen like I have for most gens before it. I just don't want iOS to be the only place to find games in the future.

Agreed. Everyone on here thinks BIG BAD MICROSOFT is out to get them with "anti-consumer practices", but with the used game policy, developers might actually get compensated for their hard work. Oh dear, can't have that happen!

It's sonys job to convince the dudebros ps4 is better. People move in groups, whatever their friends have, so they can play online together.

Only a tiny leap if you're Adam Orth in disguise! *dun dun dun*

It's not just about used games. The console is completely useless unless you can phone home to MS's servers. As PC gamers can tell you, that type of DRM has some really unsavory history. I'm definitely taking a wait and see approach.

I think attitudes will shift once real games are shown at E3. I'm getting both consoles at launch, but I have never seen trolling of this level allowed on GAF. Yes, a lot of people are upset with the unveiling, but it's like threads are encouraged now to declare the early doom of MS and see who can make the wittiest comments.

Now I already know the counter argument will be the shit the Wii U gets on a daily basis, but the system has been out for how many months and we still see almost nothing. Xbox One hasn't even launched.

No, I don't think people will suddenly find Kinect gaming awesome. It was the single worst gaming accessory I've ever used.

It's not about buying used games it's about trading your games in to fund the purchase of the next new one.

But here's the big fucking irony for you. I turn on my Xbox One and I watch TV. How do developers get compensated for that? I decide to snap the TV off to one side and make a Skype call. How do developers get compensated for that? Internet browsing? Music? Netflix? NFL?

Developers and corporate apologists like you embrace this consumer-fucking DRM, yet at the same time Microsoft have thrown in so many non-gaming features to distract attention and divert money away from video games and no-one seems to have a problem with that.

How do you feel about public libraries?

The Wii U bashing did not suddenly start when the console launched.

Pretty much this. People are going to be totally shocked and will wonder how a "DVR box" can have so many amazing games. Truth is, when people start seeing the Bioshocks and the Mass Effects of the world (games synonymous with Xbox) running on the X1 in all their glorious next-gen goodness, people will settle in and forget certain things and it will be all about the games. Because, contrary to current internet belief, the X1 is a gaming machine thru and thru and will get amazing 3rd party support (money hats or otherwise) as well as great first party support.

This forum represents a very small sliver of gamer. It can easily be a success in the US if MS prices and markets it right.

1) People haven't forgotten about Wii U's account system, OS speed, or region-locking. What makes the Xbox special?

2) If the Xbone is a gaming machine through and through Microsoft has done a good job of hiding it so far.

The machine was just announced yesterday. Do you honestly believe in your heart that they won't show games at E3? Why would they even bother to upgrade arguably the best console gamepad with things like rumble triggers? Come on now. Oh, and the Wii U's problems far exceed what you mentioned. Nintendo has done an absolute horrible job marketing this thing.

I don't understand the difference - conceptually - between a device which can play games well and a device which can play games *and* use other media functionality well. I almost get the impression from some of you that you think it's a zero-sum game between "focus" on games and media consumption. Which is ludicrous.

Also, I'd advise against making rash "never gonna buy this shit" outbursts. Else you'll end up like me, a hypocrite who vowed never to buy Blu-Ray
hence the tag
who ended up buying and loving Blu-Ray.

Of course there will be games. I'm just curious as to why we didn't see many real ones.

You do realize Bioshock and ME have been coming out for the PS4 as well?

And those are not reasons. All the casual gamers are happy with the Wii as shown by Wii U sales.

Personally I think this thread is completely full of shit It's like the OP took about 2 minutes to come up with some lazy predictions ,and I actually find it offensive in it's laziness. Oh hey dude bro games sold a lot this past gen, so it will continue this future gen. Oh hey wii mote type casual games sold a shitload last gen, so something similar will continue to be popular this next gen. Because the mainstream public never gets sick of the same shit over and over again, right? Also popular mainstream choice of gaming styles have never changed over the years, right?

This is the american mindset, nothing exists outside the walls around the usa. The rest of the world ms has been fighting a losing battle, its doa in japan and if not for good old blighty it would be screwed in europe. This whole thing stunk of a product designed for americuaaaa fuck yea market. Id be worried if i were ms right now i cant see them doing well outside of the usa.

Absolutely. But that's why I said "games synonymous with Xbox". Sure, that can change, but those are franchises that were pretty much birthed on the Xbox and thus tend to get associated with it more.

I meant PS3.

Yes, I knew what you meant. :-P

I meant PS3. The latest Bioshocks and ME came out for the PS3 as well as for the 360. Hell, PS4 is going to have indie games going for it due to Microsoft's treatments of several indie companies.

How much does MS pay you for viral marketing OP?

I wouldn't mind spouting some stuff about the next xbox if I can get some dosh.

Absolutely. But that's why I said "games synonymous with Xbox". Sure, that can change, but those are franchises that were pretty much birthed on the Xbox and thus tend to get associated with it more.

Yeah, and at one point Square RPGs were synonymous with Nintendo because they were birthed on the NES and SNES and thus were associated with them.

That changed and then Square RPGs were synonymous with Playstation.

And then that changed again.

No, it won't. The PS3 is about to overtake (and it according to some people it already has) the 360 in worldwide sales and that was with the PS3 launching a year later, at 599.99, and having a weak software launch. North America will be Xbox One land, but you will certainly see Sony regain some market share in North America. Europe and Japan belong to Sony. So no, the OP is wrong.

Is this some kind of lucid dream you're having and we're all part of it, OP?

The Xbox One will be #1 in sales at release, maybe one or two weeks after that.
And then sales will drop sharply. My guess is, this thing will sell even worse than the Wii U did and does right now.

Top Bottom
