Xbox PC app now advertises “all your games in one place” (GoG, BNET, Steam, EGS)

On one hand, cool I guess. Will probably be a good option for their handheld and kinda reminds me of Heroic Launcher or something like that. On the other hand, MS has demonstrated time and time again that they cannot be trusted. I think they are gonna try to kneecap SteamOS somehow. Just speculating of course.

Having our PC games spread across multiple launchers will always be a major downside to PC gaming. Such a unwieldy clusterfuck.
launchers are a bad idea in the first place, ideally it should just be the game kind of how like gog is where you get an installer. it never made sense to launch a launcher only to launch the game aftewards.

Sounds like you're all in for this Xbox app update 💚
Nah. It's interesting to see Xbox actually trying on PC but I hate this all-in-one launcher crap.

I remember being cised for GOG Galaxy (which is way better than this btw) and it was a fucking headache. There's always some weird problem you have to deal with, like games not appearing properly or something else.

This Xbox version is even more barebones with issues like box art not displaying, no time tracking, no visible achievements. It's hideous.

At least there are tools that make it easier to clump them all together.

Heroic Games Launcher on windows got me to get rid of Epic Games Store, GoG Galaxy and Amazon games launcher (just take the free games with prime sub). Then it auto-adds them to Steam to just boot from there.

Cool idea.

I had serious problems with Microsoft's gaming app a few years back but it's been fine for a while.

I don't mind having the option. I already have all the launchers or at least most of them but rarely open them beyond Steam and the Xbox App. This will probably be great for handheld.

Looks like they have addressed the game icons a bit by reducing the size of ones which got pixelated when they covered the full tile.

Some still are pixelated and missing though.

Good thing I don't have this crap installed on my PC.
Well, I agree it used to be pure utter garbage, not even its barebones features worked properly. Completely fucked up. ...But the fact is, now it just reliably works, finally.

With that said, it's miles away from Steam in features, but slightly above Ubisoft, EA and EGS (in my opinion) as a launcher.

It will be interesting to see how it all works. I had an issue with the Xbox PC App where it decided once I moved my game to another drive that was running low on space...to a day later, re-download the game (80gb in the background), and put it back on the original drive I moved it off from.

If they can sort out the low res library art it could be great.

But the "all-in one" scenario will only work if you can browse through the uninstalled games you own. Currently it only add the already installed games to the library, meaning you have to start another launcher if you want to play something new.

So, it's actually "all your INSTALLED games in one place".

Playnite is currently the best all-in one solution. It lets your browse uninstalled games, add art automatically, you can browse through Gamepass, you have a full screen controller-only mode.

They've addressed it a little in the update. Basically reduced the size of the lower res art. Not ideal but doesn;t look quite as shit.

I mean, I guess it has all of my currently installed games. But it's weird, especially how badly they've fucked up Oblivion Remastered (installed via Steam) considering it's a Microsoft game.

People will have their "Order of Operation" when it comes to starting things up.
Currently I start Steam, then start Epic Store through Steam so that i get the Steam FPS meter in Epic store as well as controller support.
Soon I'll need to first start Xbox app, then use that to start Steam then use Steam to start Epic.

Microsoft has it's work cut out for them. Good luck.

Low res icons reminds me of when the Series X UI was stuck in 720P.

Like in some other launchers, launching third party games is an 100% optional feature that perhaps most people, myself included, won't ever use. It's not a big deal.

With that said, proper artwork would help...

So it didn't detect your Oblivion install?
Detected it, and I can launch it through the Xbox app (though that itself launches Steam first lol) but it has no icons, no artwork, nothing.

The weirdest part about this is how barebones it is. Where GOG gets your whole library and displays it, this only works with games you actually have installed from other launchers.

yup it is, but you can put them all in gog galaxy for organization
