Xbox PC app now advertises “all your games in one place” (GoG, BNET, Steam, EGS)

Here comes the latest iteration of "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish"
This is more like one of those Marvel Comics moments where a strong comic book character (MS) knows that they can't beat another strong character (Steam), nor do they want that problem/headache, so they decide to just exist together in the same part of New York.

This is probably to push ease of use of windows 11 on pc gaming handhelds (since it has been such a pain in the ass compared to steam os). Still rather use Steam OS, even if it's not an officially supported device.

One thing that bothers me is that your playtime is listed as days of playtime, so you know 2,5 days are 60 hours, that sucks.

They've addressed it a little in the update. Basically reduced the size of the lower res art. Not ideal but doesn;t look quite as shit.
I'll go check it out. But there is also wrong art sometimes, or no art, and no way to change the art yourself. Have they done something on that?
🤮🤮🤮

I mean, I guess it has all of my currently installed games. But it's weird, especially how badly they've fucked up Oblivion Remastered (installed via Steam) considering it's a Microsoft game.
lol is that how it look after the update? Still a mile away from where they need to be.

I spot an opportunity. How long before they are bought out? 👀
It's been around for awhile, and I believe it's community driven regarding extensions and uses an online data base for art etc. It'll be difficult to acquire.

But Microsoft should use Playnite as a template and improve on it. Well Valve should do it too because they're helplessly behind on anything outside of Steam.

All the basic functionalities are there :
browsing uninstalled games, click to install, Gamepass, browse and install, Epic, GOG, Steam, add art automatically, lets you change art without file operations, show game descriptions, show playtime.

What it lacks is:
There is no achievement data, doesn't show an install bar, only a text saying "installing", game descriptions aren't using the whole screen and is difficult to use, can't change art without going to desktop mode, sometimes need to Alt+Tab or use a mouse, rare but happens.

I'd rate it 8/10 in it's current form when customized properly. Room for improvement but still great.
It's very customizable and I like that a ton:

Everybody in this thread obviously have an interest in this and should try it.

Having our PC games spread across multiple launchers will always be a major downside to PC gaming. Such a unwieldy clusterfuck.
I recently gave my brother-in-law a hand-me-down PC (8700K, 32GB of RAM, and a 4060) and having to explain to him that sometimes Steam launches another launcher so you can play Battlefield/Far Cry/Starcraft 2/etc gave me a surprising amount of second-hand embarrassment.
It really is a cluster fuck. (And people offering the solution of: "a launcher to manage the other launchers" is dumb as well.)
EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard etc need to throw everything on Steam and discontinue their garbage programs (that don't even remember your sign-in details). Valve might take a 30% cut but surely all the other pro's out-weight that particular con.

Well, I agree it used to be pure utter garbage, not even its barebones features worked properly. Completely fucked up. ...But the fact is, now it just reliably works, finally.

With that said, it's miles away from Steam in features, but slightly above Ubisoft, EA and EGS (in my opinion) as a launcher.

I haven't used it in over half a year, and by that time it was still a broken piece of shit.
But the worst part is that the Xbox app is a part of the Microsoft spyware program. I prefer to just not have the program installed and I even disabled the Xbox services that come with Windows.
Just look at the amount of connections Windows, Xbox and Copilot make, when we launch a Steam game. This is just malware on an industrial scale.

When this shit inevitably makes no dent at all in anything the entire thing will be scraped in favor of more AI shit. Anyone trusting MS for anything gaming related is a complete dumbass. Their entire gaming division is on borrowed time.

Im using playnite at the moment, works pretty well but sometimes just doesn't detect some games for some reason.
Detect as in games not showing up in your library? Or games missing art?

If it's the art, go to desktop mode and you can do a web search on missing images through the app with suggestions. You have to do games one by one, so a little cumbersome if you have lots of games, but worth it once your whole library is updated.

I use an extension to show the Gamepass library, installed and uninstalled games. Highly recommended! Exhausting if a big backlog is a problem but better than everything else where only already installed games show, which is pointless.

In general I think it's great. All the core functionality I need is there. I just wish they could pull over achievement data and screenshots, if I feel like I have to go check in the original launcher they've failed, and I want all features in full screen mode too, right now some things are locked to desktop mode.

Bit of both but the art is easy to fix like you say.
I have some Microsoft PC games on my account that it won't import even though my account is linked - not sure why as if it's related to not playing them yet it imported other games with 0 playtime.

I've had a mare with it today importing my emulators and emulated games though....got it all perfect then updating logos it overwrote and duplicated PS1 games to PS2 and messed it all up ...!!

Have had to uninstall and will try again later if I can be arsed again.

One of the many reasons I couldn't enjoy being on PC. I don't want my trophies/achievements scattered across different ecosystems. Staying on Steam did semi resolve this issue.
