Xbox pivots back to advertising console hardware

Flew through CDG yesterday and checked out the gaming section at Fnac.

Not a single thing Xbox related there. No hardware, no software. Nothing.

No Xbox bundles or special edition console for Starfield last year. Baffling enough, none for BLOPS6. Lackluster hardware promotions for the holiday.

Embarrassing performance from Xbox leadership and marketing. And this is what happens when someone and his cronies stay in a job for too long

Too bad for people who are Xbox only (nobody should, tbh), but the writing does seem to be on the wall.

How microsoft remains one of the Worlds most successful companies will always be confusing to me.

1) Windows is now a bag of shite

2) everyone I know who uses Teams absolutely hates it

3) they use endless numbers of contract workers, leading to a total lack of joined-up development in most of their products

4) they stuff Copilot into everything

5) They can't decide wtf their videogame business is and then make that explicitly clear to their customers.

And yet they make assloads of money. They're just a bit shit but their shareholders don't seem to give a fuck.

Must be nice to have so many government licences that you don't need to make any real effort.
Monopolize an industry early and quickly.

I want DF to go test that ”This is an Xbox” strategy.
There's no need to. Everyone knows this message was to early. Even Cog and Jez have said the same. Some games on the Xbox PC store aren't even updated to the latest version. You still can't play your whole library everywhere like they want. Xbox seems to just be running with this marketing and hoping to get it all working and ready at some point.

The problem is corporate, no company can move on from them. Think of every big company thousands of licenses. And teams is annoying but just good enough to not force companies to switch to zoom or something.

That’s what they’ve been doing with cloud streaming as well and they’re literally behind everyone. Stadia was better. Like, A LOT better. And it bombed.

They need to stop doing stupid betas. Or alphas in this case.
Get the thing ready. THEN launch.

Whats going on is that they sold 400k units in November. Whereas in November 2017, 4 years into the gen, Xbox One had its best November ever selling well over a million units.

Turns out, telling people not to buy your console is retarded.

So true. Who thought telling people to NOT buy your product was smart? LOL!

Turns out, Microsoft doesn't give a shit about gamers, or its customers.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching their demise. I've been with Xbox since the OG. Had lan parties with it. Soon, very soon, ill be done with them forever as a games company.

If I could do.away with Windows, I would as well.

The one thing they've got down in terms of business licenses is Office365. Most need either Word or Excel. Sign up to their service and you get it all as well as OneDrive, SharePoint etc, all connected to Windows for convenience. For better or worse people will often go with it because it's there without having to ask for it.

But it doesn't do a damn thing to help things like "New Outlook" being a pile of wank compared to classic Outlook, or "New Teams" boasting speed improvements but being monumentally slower than MSN Messenger was 20 fucking years ago with barely more functionality to show for it.

Microsoft is a big company that only cares about big picture stuff. Not sure how that applies to consoles beyond them wanting to lead the future in a way that the market seems to be rejecting for the second time.

Too entrenched in enterprise to fail, and companies too scared to leave for the unknown.

There's nowhere to leave to anyways

No real competitors exist for Windows, corporations aren't going to start using Linux on their desktop PC deployments

No real competitors exist for Word and Excel, you try trying a big corporation to rely on LibreOffice or Google Workspace or something and they'll laugh you out of the building

MS is a true monopoly in the markets they dominate because no credible competition exists that someone would actually use

Their entire cloud software suite, including onedrive & office is a broken barely usable clunky mess, missing core features. And is absolutely shamed by googles alternatives. Hats off to anyone who has managed to use their online cloud version of powerpoint without smashing their computer in frustration.

Honestly, xbox is dead.
And i would never invest any money into a dying business model.

The future for xbox is streaming and third party.

But to spend money on any of their systems? No thanks

Honestly decent ad.

Does my head in they drop it on the 20th December. But its ok, everyone there knows you don't get fired for incompetence, I mean you'll get fired, just not for incompetence.

You know what the worst/best part is? Watching this chaotic downfall of the Xbox brand in slow motion. The writing has been on the wall for years. It truly feels like watching desperate monkeys with billions of dollars to spare trying to inject "game development magic" into their failing brand. However, you cannot magically inject game development soul into your brand, even if you have hundreds of billions of dollars (and buying Activision Blizzard for 75 billion). To me, this is the only truly amusing thing about all of this misery. And the best part is, Microsoft has known that for decades. That's why at one point they even tried to buy Nintendo (as ridiculous as it may sound).
Even if you have hundreds of billions of dollars you cannot buy true passion or a true understanding of the gaming industry, and you surely can't buy true game development expertise, especially if are soulless mega corporation like Microsoft being run by soulless mega corporation CEOs. It's kind of poetic, isn't it?

And sometimes they get things right, like with Xbox 360 and Surface Laptop. But it almost seems like it's by mistake because they rarely know why.
