Xbox players are greeted with a full-screen pop-up ad for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III when they boot up their Xbox console

Wow, a screen you see for a few seconds, let's freak out again! When such an ad pops up while playing a game, sure, storm MS headquarters, but this is nothing. God forbid MS wants to advertise their games.
They do that already. They put at least one ad box on the front page of the system UI. I was even fine with that. Saw a small pic advertising Alan Wake 2 for the last 2 months. Fine. Not a big deal.

This is another level. You have to actually manually exit out of the fucking thing, which of course they love because it "increases engagement" with the advertisement. So it's just one more step towards even shittier ads.

Why stop at this? Put ads during loading screens, during respawn times, during the credits, during the lobby area, during the matchmaking process, during the pause menu...woop the shit out, go full force with that. Theres aways few dumbos saying they don't care anyway.
Or you can pay $149 for the super duper deluxe ad free version

If I'm paying for Game Pass (ie a premium service), I should have the option to completely turn off ads unless it's something on available on Game Pass.

This is why I like the simple Nintendo Switch home screen. No bullshit. Just your games in a row and nothing else UNLESS you put your clicker over it. The lack of media apps on Switch is basically a "feature" in and of itself.

Watch a mandatory 30 second ad and fill a survey to unlock the Platinum trophy in the PS5 version.

People are allowed to not want that crap flashed up when they boot their console.

They did this for Starfield and it sucked because it stopped remote play from working until I cleared it in person.

This is absolutely shameful from Xbox. I will consider dropping the platform if they continue with this and other moves like it.

Laughing my ass off that pop ups even exist on Xbox and we got people defending it here, what the hell is wrong with you baffoons, you paid 499$ for the console + sub and you get pop up ads you have to engage with? And you accept this? A spoon of mud water an y'all really like "so what it's just a tea spoon and you only have to smell it each time you don't actually have to swallow" uh ok

What can I say? We Xbox fans love to engage.

In all honesty, I find the splash thing kind of annoying but also not much of a big deal since most people won't see it.

Just wait until you have to watch a thirty second ad before proceeding. Hopefully they aren't that dumb.

Edit: to be clear, this doesn't make me angry. I just hope it doesn't evolve into something more aggregious.

Why am I not surprised that of all the 3 companies, it is of course MS that goes with these shitty practices first ?

Of course, but I am also allowed to believe this really isn't such a big deal as some here make it out to be, when you can just press exit and never see that screen again.

True, but wouldn't it just be ideal to let people complain and ignore it? Seems the only legitimate reason to argue against people not liking(or freaking out) about the ad is if you truly like ads and want them to stay.
I mean criticism is how change happens right? I know it may be frustrating when it seems people are always complaining about something you might think is miniscule, when it comes to a brand you like, but it is what it is.

Full-screen pop-up? And i was thinking those W10 tiny Starfield pop-up were some supervillain tier shit.

Anyway, didnt they promise parity? Where are the Playstation pop-ups Phil?

The Switch delivers ads to me everytime I wake it from sleep. Let's not get carried away here and start acting like MS are the only ones.

Edit: almost every time, sometimes it's links to tips and such.

Who cares, ignore it and move on if you're not interested; I wouldn't be surprised if this is targeted at existed CoD players only either.

I didn't see this on mine this morning. Going to stop after work and pick up Robocop, we'll see if I get the ad then. To be honest idk how I will move on if I get it.

I think this is just the beginning. As soon as the Sony marketing deal is over, MS is about to go full on with COD ads. They need those subs up.
"Buy COD for $70"
or
"Sub to Game Pass and get it for 'Freeeeeeeeee'"

I know its different strokes for different folks, but are there really people who finds ads attractive??
To me, ads are like digital fart, or bad smell you encounter online. Part of the working of things, but an unpleasant thing all the same.

Putting ads on the boot up of a device is like farting in someone's face every time they have to turn it on or restart it. But the worst thing about it is you have to interact with it to exit it out.

Its a saying, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.", but who ever at xbox thought this was cool, don't like gamers.

I understand why it can be annoying. I connected my headset to my PC once and every once in a while I get a pop up ad from the manufacturer. Sometimes it shows up when I'm playing something and I really don't like that.

I'm glad I sold XSX, MS is showing their true colors since they know they pushed the acquisition.

"Good guy Phil" is gone.
