Xbox World 360 asks: "What game is this?"

I hated the 64 version.

Mostly because of the controls.

I guess that'll be solved now.
I still won't play this version though, but I love the detective work above.

The game is still fun for me to this day. The biggest issues with it were always the terrible N64 controls, framerate, and of course the graphics are not to pretty these days. If this remake happens, it should solve all three of those problems. Of course as an FPS , it is not going to hold up to the better games of today, but the gameplay is still incredibly solid.

I cannot think of a good reason to bitch about it, although if it does somehow come out without the Bond license, that would remove a lot of the charm. Even for those that have no interest in the game, there certainly is nothing offensive about remaking it.

This makes me kiddy as a school girl. Goldeneye provided me HOURS of enjoyment. And, if it wasn't for the multiplayer, I never whould have learned about "sleep deprivation" my first semester in college.

Goldeneye?

It's what I thought after seeing that rail shot, too. Seems to be of the Dam level.

i'm going with Ninja Gaiden 2. they're implying that it's something we already know, just no facts. that or Bionic Commando is 360 exclusive now

What is all this bullshit about Nintendo stopping Microsoft from releasing this game? It looks like its going to happen for sure.

I could have sworn some insiders confirmed that Goldeneye died due to legal situations.

Great job on the picture surgery, guys. There's no doubt that it may very well, in fact, be Goldeneye. And if we dont' get duped, then I must say that my interest is picqued and I'm eager to see what becomes of it.

I don't think that would be possible as the story & locations following the film would infringe the copyright. I see no way of getting away from that without radically altering the game & to do that would be missing the point.

Also, I doubt Activision are the problem here. It would probably have been a similar deal to Ubisoft allowing Konami to release TMNT on XBLA to coincide with their retail release. Allowing it to go ahead for publicity basically.

Absolutely true. Even moreso in Goldeneye's case as many of the levels were built from the movieset blueprints (or whatever the design docs are called).

we only get the Dam level because that's the only part of the game that was actually original and not part of the James Bond license

and also the Temple multiplayer level

I hope the game is still coming, the shot looks really great, and I'm in the mood for it.

u should get a medal or something

The Dam level is based on the opening scene of Goldeneye.

"Will you, like us, be just a little bit angry too?"

Something tells me the developers were forced to alter the game in some way in order to not clash with Nintendo copyrights. I just know it. They're fucking with it in one way or another.

We know its Goldeneye 007. We know that it's been cancelled. We know this is just a cocktease. What we don't know is if all this work has went to waste since it was rumored to be close to completion.

Didn't Perfect Dark run on an advanced version of the Goldeneye engine? Couldn't they take the work they've done on this port and apply it to a Perfect Dark "remake"? There's that rumor that Rare might push out two games this year (excluding Viva Pinata DS), maybe a PD remake is the other game? I really loved the original PD and even though I'd rather see Goldeneye, PD is better than nothing. Just a thought.

Also, there's just something fishy about this whole Nintendo/Rare/Microsoft triangle still. Why haven't we just seen emulated versions of games like PD or the Banjos or even Blast Corps for heaven's sake (er better not forget JFG)? Would that really take that much work? Nintendo is still pulling some strings here, I'm sure.

The word from Rare on Banjo was that they'd rather have people working on BK3 to get it out faster, rather than have people put the original games on XBLA.

If this Goldeneye screen is legit then I guess they really do put a lot of effort in. They've redone everything. If they were to apply this effort to all their N64 games then I can see why it would take some time. Strangely though I would have expected them to have been able to put something other than Jetpac on the arcade by now.

I love Rare probably more than any developer out there, but even I'm starting to get impatient. I really wish they would show us what they have to offer for this year.

If it really is Goldeneye, I'd love to hear how MS worked out a deal between the owners of the game code (Nintendo) and the whoever currently holds the Bond License.

Wiiware version with Pointer control and online multiplayer?
That'd be a hoot.

Right, I knew that. But couldn't they just emulate the games quick and dirty to get something Banjo out there? It's been maybe 5 years since the last Banjo game (the GBA Banjo, when did Pilot come out?)? Stick a couple of people on it and get it out the door.

Rare is my second favorite developer after Nintendo, but I also am getting impatient. At least throw us a bone with a Banjo 3 screenshot!

That was my concern about the Rare/Nintendo/Microsoft triangle. Its almost as if Rare might own the IP but they don't own the code. I almost think anything they try to bring out can't be emulated--it has to be totally redone.

I still don't understand how Nintendo can block this.

Did they make the game? NO
Do they own the Bond License? NO

I mean if MS gets permission from Activision then why can't they make it? It's not like they have to emulate Nintendo's hardware to run GE, they could technically make and run this game off a whole new engine.

Basically a brand new game, with a new engine, just a 100% copy of the original.

Why does no one here think ComputerandVideogames can pull an exclusive story like this?

I hope that they add a jump button if they are going to go ahead and re-do everything.

Not sure I understand the hatred toward the controls of this game. Honestly I think they are the perfect controls ever for a Non-PC FPS. The only thing I care about is an upgrade to 60 FPS

Last pic is up.

Here is the text...

In the next issue of Xbox World 360 (caps lock alert: ONSALE NEXT WEDNESDAY - THAT'S THE 27TH FEBRUARY!) you'll find shots and hands-on details on one of the biggest (and most confusing) gaming stories of the year. Read on for more...

Maybe you think you already have all the answers - but have you seen this shot somewhere else? Or do you know what the Right Bumper does? What's become of the Jungle? And what about the multiplayer maps? Tune in on Wednesday to see the whole thing explode. There'll be no satisfying conclusion... but maybe, together, we can take down the whole system. Or, er, change a few minds.

(Oh yeah - and tomorrow? The whole picture.)
Wow....sounds like they really did hype up a cancelled game.
