XBOX360 kicking ass again

I've been wavering over launch. Give me a $300 launch price and another game or two I can get into, and I'll bite.
 
I was going in expecting the worst, but ... 360 is actually putting on a decent showing. Lots of nice stuff, although much of it being demoed in private.

Oh, and the Microsoft guys are doing a good job of hammering in the "It's only running at 30%!!" bit. :lol

Rightly so, they were dumb to show what games look like at this point in the development anyway.. Sony showed what the games WILL look like (using CGI).. Clearly a smarter move.
 
I will have a 360 at launch. I'm hoping it comes in 350 or under. If the new consoles are 400, I'll be an unhappy camper. 300 is a lot, but I can stomach it for something I'll use for years. I've paid more than that for an ipod. PD0 has been a bit of a disappointment, but I've been pretty disappointed by rare for a few years now, so nothing new there.

I'm interested in PS3 as well, but mostly worried about shoddy hardware, as that's been my past experience with Sony videogame equipment. I imagine this will be exacerbated by including a brand new, first gen blu-ray drive. I'm sure, like this gen, I'll end up with all 3 sometime down the road, but first up for me is definitely the 360.
 
My my how things can change so quickly in 24 hours. Xbox 360 is putting some hot titles out and every dev is backing up the 30% claim, seems as though there will be a huge turn for the better come 360 launch.
 
Why all this talk of 400$, did I miss a quote? I thought a read a quote on monday that said the PS3 will be offered at 299$ for the standard version, and 499$ for one with a blu-ray burner and larger drive?

The microsoft guys? Every developer has been saying this at E3, not "the microsoft guys".

How much it'll launch in Japan and Europe is in question. But for the US? If MS launches for $300 (and they will) Sony will launch for $300. They're not that stupid.

Gears of War is probably the only game tha makes me want to buy X360. I think we could call it a system seller.

true, but Gears of War doesn't come out until NEXT August (or maybe even later). Thats even after the PS3 launch. MS is going to need something to move systems much earlier than that, and it seems they were banking on PDZero to be that title.

All the big gaming sites have been praising PD0 for its graphics and how good the game is. We dont actually have any proof of this yet, but if the game has been improved then MS might have found its answer.
 
Gears of War looks nice, but it won't be available for quite a while. The fact is that nothing at launch looks like a system seller to me, but the second wave of games could be tempting. I guess we will see.

I know launch is out of the question, but perhaps the second wave of games will approach next generation graphics and play. As someone said earlier, for the most part launch games suck. Sometimes one or two gems can be found. I've seen nothing in the 360 launch lineup that says I must have this system.

Hell, to be fair, we have zero idea what PS3 will launch with. But if games like I-8 or Heavenly Sword are available and meet expectations, I'm there. They definately look the furthest along and most likely to be release titles.

Just having Madden, NBA Live, Tiger Woods, and Need for Speed will be huge. Throw in Pefect Dark Zero, Topspin 2, Project Gotham 3, and Halo 2 on 360 and people will be plenty happy. If anything is a proven seller in America it's Madden, and most Madden fans will buy a 360 just to play next gen Madden on live.

Um... well in a general sense this is how you can do it:

Use MS supplied routines for a lot of your stuff, so when the latest hardware (and corresponding software) come out, all of your routines will be X times faster. Since MS routines are obviously very low level things that will comprise about 80% of the code run, you've just improved your game A HELL of a lot, and then you can go back and start making things really shine. I don't think you'll see new effects (other than AA) but probably better textures, higher polygon counts, better animation, more characters, etc etc.

And also remember that there's a difference between launch day and launch window. Things happening at launch DAY will have 1-3 months less dev time than things lauching in the launch window, so that's 3-6 months those games in the launch window for optimization which honestly, is quite a lot.

Spectator mode would be cool, it might also prevent people from cheesing so much if everyone spectating could leave them negative feedback for it.

I hope not, I was a pretty big splinter cell fan but they are just releasing too many splinter cell games in such a short time. I haven't finished Splinter Cell CT yet.

Saint's Row (Volition's game) is being pimped in force, but looks meh. The Outfit looks spiffy -- that will likely be THQ's banner game.

Microsoft's setup and planning really blew Sony and Nintendo's away. For instance, Microsoft provided very nice headphones for their promo movie, whereas the Sony one was muddled by outside noise. They also handed out "tickets" for the promo movie rather than making people wait in lines for half the day, which worked out very nicely (especially since I got one).

Beyond that, nothing compares to having playable setups for the next-gen consoles. Granted, Microsoft's release date is six months earlier than Sony's, but Microsoft wowed more people at a convention meant for wowing than Sony did. Nintendo wowed my snooze button.

Well...I wouldn't really say so. Its still had a very disappointing showing. The games playable are all purportedly running like crap (low fps), and the real lookers are all in video form. I don't expect that X360 devkits running at x% will translate to these (first-gen) games having radical graphical overhauls, more getting framerates up to acceptable speeds.
But those things aside, the main problem X360 has had at this show was basically no important game announcements. FFXI is one that was surprising (because it confirmed SE support), but not really significant in any way. They say no news is good news, but in this case...its not.

The other disappointment is obviously PD0 which their reluctance to show can and should be construed as a sign that the game isn't progressing well.

Sony and Nintendo don't have to deliver at this E3, Microsoft need to, but haven't.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but damn, a bit of news that PD0 looks better and some random PR hype about %s unused don't make up for this completely crap E3.

No important game announcements? What about the tons of game that x360 is getting around launch?
You just think so because almost all of them have been leaked before.

I dont doubt the X360 can pull this off (and should, since thats the leap I'm expecting), but you can't throw a list of games and expect it to mean anything.

Microsoft didn't announce ONE decent surprise. The games that were already announced are great, but you're out of your mind to think that people (like myself) shouldn't be disappointed by the lack of announcements.

I kinda think E3 is about games, so yeah a list of games that people say are flat-out amazing does something for me. Not sure how else to address your disappointment.

All they needed was this game in playable form, over LIVE, and I'm sure there would be a lot more hype.

Hey...was NHL 2K6 being demoed for the 360?
 
A friend of mine never buys a system until there are three "must have" games for him on it, and I've taken to the same policy.

The 360 has them for me - Kameo, Gears of War and Project Gotham Racing 3. Perfect Dark Zero is the, erm, dark horse running. Lousy intro, but the buzz is building.

Oh - and striek is on my 'ignore' list - love that feature. :) (not sure what you said last, guy)
 
For those complaining about a lack of big "announcements" by Microsoft... lots of their announcements were leaked beforehand or shown during the MTV special, leaving E3 as the showcase for their Live stuff, the hardware itself, and the games. As for new "big" games, there were a bunch we didn't relly know about a month ago (PD0, Gears of War, Square support, the Japanese RPG's, and the slew of third-party support backing the 360).
