A little disappointed in the human(?) enemies... hope there are more alien ass aliens.

Snake creature not alien enough for you?

I'm sure there will be more alien ass enemies. Even if the main enemies were mostly humans like EXALT I would be cool with that since they were pretty fun to kill in Enemy Within.

I've been thinking, since there will be deep mod tools and official mod support, would the Xcom engine and formula be suited for a Jagged Alliance total conversion? Or is that asking way too much?

I'd settle for a Star Wars/Star Trek, preferably Star Wars, TC in the end.

My only issue with EXALT is they seem so stupid because they're human. Somehow my brain explains away weird alien behaviors as alien, but when I watch EXALT do something stupid the AI becomes painfully obvious.

It is included in the Battle Isle Platinum Pack I linked above.

WAIT?! WHAT?! how was I able to miss that. Thanks mate, instant buy.

EDIT: Seriously I've been waiting for this so long! How the fuck was I able to miss that. And now tell me that bridge commander is also out there...

XCom fanbase on consoles? Haven't heard, seen, or ever meet such mythical beens.

Don't do this. The port begging is getting tiring but there's no need to dismiss console gamers. I played XCOM EU and EW on PS3 and I loved it. I'm very, very looking forward to this one and PC only is fantastic news because I expect great things out of the control scheme/game systems, but to say XCOM does not have a following on consoles is bullshit.

I can only assume the PC version sold disproportionately well/had way longer legs that 2K decided to just make XCOM2 a tentpole PC release like they did with the Civ franchise.

And I prefer using their controllers over the 360 pad I have on PC.

If your laptop is only similar to a last gen console then I see what you mean.
You can use your Xbox One and DualShock 4 controllers on a computer. The Xbox controller has official support and the DS4 has excellent community-made drivers.

I'm not dismissing anyone here, XCom is an awesome game kudos for people enjoying it wherever.. (myself I have play plenty of the ipad version).

Said so, XCom consoles seemed to never catch up an audience, every single time I step into a vid game shop; there they are, sad copies of 360-ps3 XCom sitting in the lowest priced tier

;( makes me sad, game deserve better.

Whoever mentioned the idea of this game coming to consoles with the release of the first expansion makes a lot of sense. Hope that's the case, but I might buy it on my Macbook, depending on how reports of its performance are.

Would anyone want that? Jagged Alliance 1/2 are easily the most detail oriented squad strategy game I've ever played, and the new X-Com games some of the least detail oriented (which isn't meant as a slight against them). They are practically opposite ends of the spectrum.

Cool to see mod support, but the bigger deal for me is procedurally generated maps. Couldn't finish The Long War mod because of how tired I was of the same maps over and over again.

I felt the randomized starting position did a pretty good job of mixing things up.

The highly (and I do mean highly, that stuff can go crazy) pod composiitons and locations alongside the way that squads are generally not as homogeneous as in EW vanilla keep the maps fresh for me . The extra LZs do help but once you respect and fear the pod generator for what it can throw at you, missions in Long War are rarely dull.

Wow. Xcom2!! Megaton

Wow. PC exclusive?... Why?

Im getting it either way, but that seems silly.

As it says in the IGN article in the OP, it will be explained this week. There is also a livestream from Firaxis tomorrow at 18:30 UK time which will probably talk about it as well. IGN are doing coverage all month

Guess it depends on how open the mod tools are, maybe they would allow to add such complex features, tho I'm not that knowledgeable. Heck I would be happy with a Jagged Alliance theme for XCom, just want to run my own mercenary company again in a game that doesn't suck.

I'm okay with it being PC exclusive especially if there is reason for it but I really hope it maintains robust controller support. The first game was a joy to play on my PC with 360 pad.

I can only assume the PC version sold disproportionately well/had way longer legs that 2K decided to just make XCOM2 a tentpole PC release like they did with the Civ franchise.

I'm not even talking about sales (that's the icing on the cake). I understand why they went with PC only and it makes sense in terms of controller (mouse/keyboard for a squad based RPG strategy game) + the ability to have a LOT of cool subsystems within the game simulation. I am honestly looking forward to it more than if they had announced a PS4/XBO version. I just wanted to let the people saying "no console following" know how wrong they are.

I'm not dismissing anyone here, XCom is an awesome game kudos for people enjoying it wherever.. (myself I have play plenty of the ipad version).

Fair enough. Apologies for my harsh language.

IIRC wasn't there some issue Firaxis had with putting out the expansion for EU on consoles? They had to rerelease it because of the size or something. Maybe that's playing into it here.

But it does sound like they want this to be a Civ sized franchise so catering to PC first without compromising anything might help them achieve that. They might be looking to expand the basebuilding aspect far beyond what they could do with a console interface.

Size wouldn't be an issue with modern systems. It mattered back then because some of them shipped without HDDs or really tiny ones.

I'm not a fan of the theme of the game with the mobile base and the world governments being run by aliens and all that. I wish it had been more straightfoward like the last game. A new take on Terror from the Deep, or something inspired by the Mars or Bust series of missions from the original, would have interested me more.

PC exclusive? Hopefully they'll have a proper PC-centric UI/controls this time around.

I remember playing Dishonoured and XCOM back to back in their release week and it was awesome.

Definitely excited for this one, hopefully I'll be finished with The Witcher 3 by November.

Seems like the right decision, to me.

Be careful what you wish for. We already got the sadly half-baked/left at the community orphanage Jagged Alliance Flashback. I personally don't think the mechanics of modern day XCOM would do justice to any sort of highly granular squad tactics that were present in JA2.

Why the hell arguably the greatest tactical TBS ever hasn't been treated with the same sort of dignity as XCOM, I'll never know.

Seems weird to annonce it as PC exclusive when the gameplay still seems pretty duable on consoles. I could see being revealed as a console exclusive at the MS or Sony E3 conference.

Dignity?

I'd say Jagged Alliance is doing ok on that front.

Why would they reveal the game now if they were going to go exclusive at a conference with much higher profile press that's only 2 weeks away?

One of my proudest gaming achievements (no pun intended) was I was the 9th person overall on an achievement tracking site to get the "beat EU on Classic difficulty" achievement.

From this thread, apparently that wasn't a big deal though because only 9 people played it on 360...

I need this game now.

Also the campaign setting reminds me of Jagged Alliance 2, which is only a good thing.

Yet you haven't actually seen the gameplay or know anything about it. None of us do yet:

You might notice a lack of gameplay video, but fear not: in two weeks, we’ll debut the first in-game footage of XCOM 2 on our IGN E3 Live Show.

Also being exclusive to a console via E3 as well doesn't make sense with the context of the article:

And, later this week we’ll go in-depth with Solomon and DeAngelis on the reasons behind the bold move to take XCOM from a multiplatform series to a PC exclusive, and how XCOM 2 will be tailored to take advantage of that single platform’s strengths – followed by Firaxis’ exciting plans to support modders and their work.
