XCOM: Enemy Unknown |OT| Neo GAF is Under Alien Control

One thing I haven't found out yet, do you get a free sat. on classic ironman for doing the tutorial, or do you eventually get it without the tutorial? In my game I built one straight away, and I haven't gotten a free one.

I skipped the tutorial (twice), and (both times) started with one satellite already in orbit, and no additional satellites. Not sure if that is the free one you mean or not.

Classic difficulty? you could have a patrol stumbling across you and kind of panicking. I've had that a couple of times.

I'm on Normal difficulty and It wasn't an escort mission. The floaters just appeared with in two spaces of my guys, right out of the blue. It was weird.

Speaking of Guile hair, I had the game preordered but I have yet to see the haircut. Whats up with that? I can change all my suits to 32 different colors, which I thought was part of that DLC.

Also, fuck my life I came across a parked UFO with at least 12 mutons and a breserker. I say at least 12 because I've never made it to the end, I've gotten wiped twice now.

You do not get a free satellite, but I think it balances itself out based on the other things that happen to you in the tutorial.

im quite happy with this remake! the guile hair was a huge plus..funny the guy i made with it got shot in the face on the first enemy turn in the game...ironic!

Can you skip the tutorial on anything other than impossible difficulty?

Yep. You can skip the tutorial on all difficulties I believe. You don't even get the option on impossible though.

I don't much care for this shooting through walls business. Might as well just be fighting in a big empty white room.

It is a bit weird, I must admit... I'd have preferred walls to be taken into account a bit more.

so i lost all my team on the first alien base.
im playing on normal
is it something I can recover from ? the coucil seemed pissed at me.
(i have no save game prior to this event)

... you understand what kind of game this is right ? its about stats, not precision. how could it work.

It's about tactical positioning as well and if you're behind a massive wall the enemy shouldn't be able to see you, never mind shoot straight through it as if it were thin air.

I can't get the vpn to work. I try to connect to a us server and get a "Error 628" tried disabling firewall, data encryption, opening ports... Guess it's for the best, I have work tomorrow

There are ways to remain unseen in the game. I think the shot clipping issue is more about not having a 'correct' animation for every outcome.

I'm watching a stream and this dude's got a hoard of alien corpses. Is there a reason not to sell them in this game?

I'm noticing my engineers require corpses for a lot of projects.

you've still got that +40 to cover. An xcom game where you're perfectly safe is not really much of an xcom game

Just opened up my PC special edition and the art book is way nicer than I expected, I had no idea it was hardcover. The poster and patch are neat too.

Be careful with grenades, they will blow up stuff, including tanks!

I threw a nade at a group of aliens and my senior dude on this mission was on the other side of the tank and got himself killed. Damn friendly fire.

Question -

Just went to add a newly built SHIV to the team, it completed, but I can't add it. When I view in the barracks, it's just an empty space where the SHIV model should be. What's up with that?

It gives you a warning that your AOE attack will hit a friendly tho.

I really hope they look at hit percentages, this is pathetic. I was positioned BEHIND an alien two squares away with a clear shot at his backside and the hit percentage? 5-fucking-6%. What?

Not only that but 50%+ shots miss so goddamn much. I failed the first mission on Classic because I could not hit the aliens enough to do the damage to kill them with 50% chance to hit. I realize that's a 50% per shot but things are not normalizing. Their reported odds are a joke. I remember one mission where I had all 4 dudes fire with 70% odds to hit and all of them missed and that happens all of the time.

On the flipside, I can be fired upon in full cover and get hit most of the time. There's no sense of fairness in the difficulty of the game. It pretty clearly cheats for the AI constantly.

What's the point of getting the drop on them if I still have a 50-50 chance of hitting?

Let's turn this thread into PuzzleQuest v2, confirmed bias xcom edition

Why would they lie about the odds? I'm pretty sure you just think the odds are wrong but I'm pretty sure what is reported is correct unless you have a bug in your game. I think people just noticed more when "4 dudes fire with 70% odds to hit and all of them missed" vs "4 dudes fire with 30% odds to hit and all of them hit".

Math! It doesn't always work in your favor. :)
