Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is Releasing on July 29, 2022

As rad as XC: DE and XC2 were, the dynamic resolution that lead to extreme blurriness was wiggedy wiggedy wiggedy whack.

Don't get me wrong, I love the art of XC, I'll be there day one.

But if nothing has changed with their tech, visiting another incredible Xenoblade world on the switch will be like looking at the Sistine Chapel after rubbing vaseline in my eyes

Yeah I really hope they have been able to polish and optimize their engine since XBC2.
As much as I liked XBC2 I wasn't a fan of how they decided to use the extra power on the Switch. Going for graphical improvements doesn't do much when you keep the game running at a blurry 720p with some extra blur from the anti aliasing solution.

They should have gone for the same visual quality as XBCX but running at a higher resolution (which seems reasonable looking at how Switch can seemingly run most WiiU games at higher res).

What's Switchs best output

720p

In docked mode I think it's 1080p, I'm not sure if any game runs higher than that or if the system even supports a higher output.
The screen on the system itself is 720p so ideally that's what you want the game to run at. 720p games usually look nice and crisp in handheld mode (Kirby for example runs at 720p most of the time and looks really nice in portable mode).

For reference (from the digital foundry article) Xenoblade 2 runs at 720p in docked mode with an aggressive form of temporal anti aliasing that makes it look even blurrier than 720p already does.
In handheld it runs with a dynamic resolution that seems to go from 552p all the way down to 368p

50ish. You could easily cross 100 though with all the side quests and such.
You really think the game can be completed in 50 hours? It took me 80 hours, and I didn't bother with the side quests. Admittedly I did some grinding in the late-game.

Incidentally I've played 11 hours or so in Xenoblade 2. I have Vandham in my party. Love the Uraya theme and environments. Though I still get my ass kicked pretty often.

Got any good rare Blades yet?

I could be greatly confusing how long it took me. How long to beat website says 64 hours for main story.

Do you still need to grind in DE? DE have Expert mode that you can increase/decrease your level with saved EXP.

You never need to grind in original Xenoblade because you get exp from doing quests and discovering new areas.

Yeah I know, but ValiantTraveler ValiantTraveler didn't bother with side quest but did some grinding in the late game.

On my playthrough, I usually underleveled when entering new areas. After I done all the side quests for that area/city that I strong enough for the area.

If you do the sidequests you'll be fine. I only had to grind cause I didn't bother with them.

Out of curiosity, is there anything more than a superficial connection between the Xenoblade Chronicles titles? I was thinking about picking them up and playing through them but I was wondering if it's worth it to play them in order or not.

They are all spookily connected even though they work well as standalone titles, and this coming entry seems to be suggesting it will make the connection even stronger. They would be best enjoyed in order for this reason but it isn't absolutely crucial

I've heard mixed feelings about the first entry. Does it hold up well today?

What mix feeling ? The first entry is universal praise compare to other . It in fact the most well ground and complete entry
I've had a few people tell me it's really good and a few others say it feels very dated and doesn't hold up as well as the more recent entries. So I was asking opinions here.

I recently replayed this first game and in my opinion it hold up really well but I personally like the combat and characters in 2nd game, but everyone has their own favourites.

I love that game a lot (I wrote my strong feelings about it in GotY voting thread 2020) and I think it holds up in every area and is superior to the other entries in some areas. For example I think the cast of characters and focus/cohesiveness of the narrative is better than the other Xenoblade games. The touchy subject seems to be that a lot of people think the combat is bad. I think the combat excellent, and while I might concede other Xenoblade games do have somewhat better combat, there are cool things about Xenoblade 1's combat that are lost completely in the other games, so it's more different than inferior to me. On the other hand, I would agree that the combat is complex and obtuse. I never would have understood how great it was if I didn't use guides to understand the game's mechanics and nuances, and I would probably think along similar lines to most people if that were the case. I recommend shamelessly looking up guides on youtube to have the intricacies of the combat explained you, many of which are careful to keep spoilers to a minimum.

Here's one that's a general overview and here's an old one that's a little more spoilery that helped me realise a character I thought was weak was actually extremely strong.

I'm currently playing Xenoblade DE. it still holds up pretty good. The only inconvenience for me is timed side quest, the heart-to-heart needing certain affinity link, chain attack is pretty complicated compared to 2/Torna.
But the great thing about the battle system of Xenoblade is that it's pretty simple, you can still finish the game even though you don't understand it at all, just choosing arts based on the chance mark. But if you truly understand the system, it's really exhilarating.

One question is if we gonna get XC2's announcer during combat in here. I might be alone on this but I love the announcer when you do element blade combo.
I feel the lucky indicator is pretty hard to see, especially it's on different location than the elite and unique.
I agree, they should have just put unique wing in health bar.

I also like the announcer, it feels like a Kamen Rider show lol. What funny is that the announcer between the English dub and Japanese dub is different, even though the Japanese dub is using English.

I played XC2 with Japanese voice I just love that announcer's voice, it adds flair to whole combat.

What the... it's a character design, finally!

Joking aside, I like this a lot. More of this, less jackets and sneakers.
His armour is somewhat similar to Lora, very Samurai like.

You see little bit of that in all characters in from Agnus

Man, the game is looking gorgeous! Even after release date moving up, I still wish I would get the game sooner, my hype for this game cannot be contained.

If the map is like X, as in a big massive world without loadings, rather than the more segmented levels ala chronicles 1 & 2, then kudos to the team in advance. Would be a tour de force. Very excited for this game.

I'm not 100% sure but it could, for one unlike XC1&2, in 3rd game they no longer live on top of Titans and second it seems we have ship get us around.

I believe if the maps were segmented similar to XC1&2 there is no need for us to have any type of vehicle for traversal......unless it still segmented but maps super huge.
