I refreshed myself on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 last week. What a fantastic game. I am going through Torna for the first time right now. I can't wait for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. It is just more Xenoblade goodness. The OST for 2 is perfect for the game. Every location has such a great BGM, and the climatic moments in the story have perfect tracks. I had such a wonderful time retreading it. Damn, July can't come soon enough! Enjoying Torna a lot too!

Pneuma best girl, by far.

I replayed recently and thoroughly enjoyed it, The ost is absolute magic.

I hope XC3 ost is on point again.

really hope XCX gets a switch port some day

such an underappreciated game
I really liked the exploration and the skells but the story was so weak and most of the ost was rancid, other than elma I can't remember anyone else from a weak ass cast....

I would replay it on a new Nintendo console in 4k though... Them environments 😍

They have same hairstyle and scar but very different body and face.

Vandham is a recurring character in Xenoblade series (like Cid in Final Fantasy). He also appeared in Xenoblade 1, but the name is changed to Vangarre in the English localization. The Japanese name is Vandham.

Vandham also appears in Xenoblade X

I also hated their 3D character models, its very similar to realistic doll looking faces you see in Star Ocean 4 models.

Say what you want about Xenoblade 2 and 3 looking more "anime" but they are more pleasant to look at with proper expression while matching their 2D art.

Wow! I didn't know he was called Vandham in Japanese.

The problem is that Monolith changed the game from a story focused game into a multiplayer focused game. The bit and pieces from the original story are still in Xenoblade X and full of mystery. In Iwata Asks, they even joke the original plot can be published as novel lol.

The character designer for Xenoblade X is the same as Xenogears and Xenosaga. I think it didn't translate good to 3D. But I think the doll-like model fits well with the story of Xenoblade X.

Xenoblade X's 2D works for the characters looks pretty good but this is another case of they just couldn't match 3D models to 2D.

With the scale Xenoblade and limitation of the consoles, Masatsugu Saito's character designs is much easier to translate from 2D to 3D while having proper expression.

Xenoblade X also has character creation doesn't it?

That requires creating a character generation system, which was probably used for all the NPCs too.
The problem is that when it's not well implemented it results in some goofy looking generated faces.

Also, making animations that can be used in those generated faces is a lot more complex than simply taking one model and animating just that single model uniquely.
This is why I dont like character creation in my games, I also dont like wasting my time going through menus to create character which end up not mattering much since majority of the time its less of a character and more of avatar for multiplayer.

I don't really mind character creation. But what I hate about character creation = silent protagonist.

I'm much more in to well realized character design, even characters like Demi-Fiend and Nohobino in SMT games that are silent but at least they have distinct and unique designs.

It is my favorite Nintendo game. Snuck around to avoid being killed while exploring areas well beyond my levels. The main story was the framework while the side stories fleshed out everything.

Exhausted every side story and mission before moving to the next part in the main story. Loved the twist and turns of the side stories and how it totally changed how I looked at many of the characters which in most games would be background characters I just walk by.

When I enter a new area before I am supposed to go there and it opens up for further exploration with that feeling of do I really dare? Oh. My. God. I love this game.

If the game is designed to be a silent protagonist, it's actually pretty good. But if it's with character design, I feel like your character is just hanging out with them.

couldn't get into Xenosaga, too many cutscenes and not enough enjoyment of the actual game itself. I heard it got much better by 3, but I was already out by the end of 1.
Xenosaga have too much development problems. For me, Tetsuya Takahashi develop this game without restraint. The story was confusing, too many jargons. The team also didn't have experience. They were scrambling for recruitment for the first game. The second game was so atrocius that it made Takahashi's wife leave game development industry.

Second half of Xenosaga 2 is pretty great with the E.S. battles. OST is very good too.

I'm just gonna buy that artbook off Ebay if I can't secure a collector's edition. The book is what I need to go along with the other two.

Man that battle UI sucks... Combat looks ok, at least for the stage of the game that they're showing it.

I posted these a while back comparing the X models to Xenogears artwork.

Yea that was my biggest complaint with the past Xenoblade games, I was hoping they'd do something this time, but it's just as bad but now we've got 6 HP bars.
They nature of how Xenoblade combat works you can't escape busy UI. but for me Xenoblade 3 UI is much more clean compare to previous games especially the fact you have now 6 active party members in battle.

Keep in mind this is probably before all battle mechanics are introduced. I have no proof of that, but all paste games have gotten more mechanics as you progress, don't see why this one also wouldn't.

I think partially it's bad because it's big, but that's probably a necessity considering it's in a game that has to support a handheld mode on a small screen. I more than most believe in the philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but this is one of the things on my wishlist that I wouldn't have minded an improvement on.

I personally MUCH prefer that to how XCX done with super tiny text you barely can see what hell is going on, to me XC3 UI way improved compare to previous game.

I'm not alone with that complain when it comes to XCX UI.

The combat in XC1 and XCX I thought were terrible. Move around AND use the d-pad to change arts? I really liked how it was fixed in 2.

I'm hoping that 3 retains the depth of 2, but with the speed of Torna.

This game is looking to have the best combat in Xenoblade series, bringing elements from XC1&2 with its own added mechanics.

I particularly like dash movement you have during the battle, you can now move to different position faster.

The last important detail is can you switch job classes on the fly in combat or mix and match abilities through some kind of class leveling system. If the answer is no, I'm going to just leave them all in their traditional roles. I see no reason to experiment with having an uneven amount of each class in battle.
