If you want to stay on pace with the main story chapters, you should look towards the level requirements of the required affinity missions for guidance. Chapter 9, (for example) has a minimum requirement of lvl 28 while chapter 10 can be done at lvl 33.

That said, I personally had quite a bit of trouble with chapter 10 at level 45+ with lvl 30 skells, so if you're looking for a challenge, I think the best way to go about it is to take the quest as soon as possible and then go back to do other stuff first if it's too hard after all.

Awesome, thanks. Yea that was my plan to stick to story for a while. The urge to explore with skells was just too strong and I overdid it.

Guys is there a list of the best Arts to level up for Elma and Lin? Whenever I go to level up Arts for them I kinda randomly pick stuff which I'm sure I could be doing better.

Also there's no option to auto level them is there?

the Arts system is deep even if an Art looks pointless there is always a build for it that makes is vital to have it on Max

as you get you GP just use it on the ones that match your play style

I am an Elma user meaning I put her as lead and control her most of the time
I just go for accuracy and TP gains for her

I love her Hundred Shells art a lot so whatever I can do to help that refresh faster is what I am aiming for

Lin is my tank I give her lots of HP boosts TP gains and topple

I know that does not help answer your question but I am still learning after 270+ hours

It really does not matter what level you are for the story chapters if you get to a boss that you cannot beat die 3 times to it you will get an option to lower difficulty

the way I saw it work was that the bosses were dropped to a lower level that you could manage

but if you do not want to die to them level up as much as you can with as many character you can

Just spent an hour and a half running around in circles at the top right lake area in Oblivia trying to find 14 goddamn Kiweggs.

I think I've lost control of my life.

Oh man, I continuously fast travelled to the
Nopon
camp in Oblivia to gather my Kiweggs. There are 5/6 items that spawn right by the beam with a chance of them being Kiweggs, even though it took a while it wasn't more than a full hour lol.

Wait, so items respawn if you fast travel to somewhere even if that's where you are at that moment?

God dammit.

I parked my Skell on top of those so had 5 minutes of exiting skell, return to skell (party command), exit skell cycle.

Enemies too and return to Skell is like a portable fast travel point. Makes farming stuff a lot easier.

it does affect, but the apparent effect is smaller than the other stuff considering adding more melee/range is additive while adding more attribute etc is multiplicative. if the base melee/range is low, no matter how high your multiplicative bonus from attribute/weakness/positional the output will be still quite low

oh yea i forgot about position in my original post haha

I'm assuming Skell's Ranged attack (After +attk and +% boosts) just gets added to the weapons force daamge. I'm sure it helps with Sidearms, but as you said, when something does 42000 dmg, having +500 range attack does jack. Meanwhile, +30% Gravity damage would do alot more for that 42000 then the +500 range.

The only way I could see a +rattack build being viable would be to use Chain guns, small missles, etc and other weapons that hit multiple times, but have low damage. Even then, with a new fight and cockpit mode resetting cooldowns, I'm not sure how viable that would be.

Also I bought a new skell that had better handling because I figured that would make driving better. But lord is it sensitive, I'm just flying from left to right when I move the thumbstick even a little bit lol. It does look amazing though.

So I'm finally getting around to exploring sylvalum! Lots of stuff way higher level than me.

So, what should I put my next blade level into? Level 4 archaeology or level 2 biology?

I thought flying to the high rocks in Primordia would be awesome, it's actually terrifying what you find up there.

The first time you're one-shotted by a tyrant in the upper atmosphere is a magical experience. Especially since the whole scenario surrounding getting the flight module does its best to make you feel invincible.

can't wait to unlock the rest, the original they give you is cool and all but I need my wabbit

The funny thing is I wanted to name it DeathRabbit but the ten-character would've made it DeathRabbi, so I might end up changing it to DthRabbit or just keep it and enjoy a very weird anecdote born out of a system limitation.

See! I knew I wasn't crazy lol

Even leaping from platform to platform is a bit tough because you gotta carefully tap each jump rather than push it fully or else you overshoot it haha.

Now try flying up the waterfall in the northwest of Noctilum.

One thing I really love about this game is how you keep conquering mountains only to find even bigger ones, and how each evolution in what's available to you for exploration and power level feels really substantial throughout. The stuff that looks terrifying to you now will be beneath you later, only for you to find something even more new and terrifying.

I think I've found a lot more archeological field actions than biological, though Sylvanum has quite a few of the latter compared to the rest of the continents.

That said, you'll want to get them all to at least lvl 4 eventually, so going either way right now seems fine.

Ugh, I left my Wii U overnight to build up some cash for a level 50 skell, and 10 minutes after i go to bed I get "lost connection to server" which pauses the game and I wake up with no extra money. Fuuuuuuu

I like how Elma's a secret bitch hidden under a shell of professionalism. Like, all the affinity gaining options in quests are the asshole or jerk choices and 90% of her gains are also Murderess gains. I'll just see the heart go up sometimes and be like "Oh come on, you can't even pretend that's what a soldier would do, you just like that I told that dude to grow some balls"

Thats about what I figured, thanks!

Really digging sylvalum so far! The views are quite spectacular, possibly my favorite zone so far. The giant patrolling skells are a pain in the ass though! Also the weather just makes my visibility zero and really messes up my battles... Made me lose a skell!

Pretty sure there isn't a way to do that. The game detects you being afk and will stop generating resources after one refresh or so. Even running into a wall doesn't work.

I found a Scythe that does 6000 damage and the attack says that it does more damage attacking from the back so I equipped and attacked a big worm like 10 levels more than me and not only the scythe attack does 2 hits but each one was for 20000 instead of 6000.

I made the mistake of walking 10 steps to the right after finishing that one.

I just did that. Nope.

Love my E-Scythe. It's strong because the back attack can be pulled off so reliably when you're the one to initiate combat.

Now put an opening art augment on it which improves, well, the power of the opening art by 40% or something and we're cooking.

Any tips for a newcomer? Just started up and been killing everything in what I believe is the tutorial area. Currently lvl 5. I've heard that Mechanical is something I should focus on, is that right?

Yes raise Mechanical skill first you need at least 3 in the skill to do most of the probe sites .

Also if you don't want to end up doing affinity grinding (believe me you don't) try to use all party members to raise affinity with them .

Ok, for the Murder Most Foul Normal quest;

I disarmed the bomb but everyone still died. What's the point if it doesn't actually do anything?

Did
the Ma-non detective survive in the end? If so, that's the "good" ending, where he lives despite the human and his girlfriend dying. In the "bad" ending, where you don't disarm the bomb and he never learns about the poison, he dies too. Such a happy quest!

In Celeste Three, what happens to
Briggs, Forsdyke and third dude after you defeat them? They still seem to be alive according to the Affinity chart, but I'm not sure.
Is there also a fourth keycard?

Yes, mechanical is the most important field skill since it's required to set up frontiernav probes.

As for some general tips:
  • Check your characters' available arts and skills every now and then, since they learn more stuff as they level up and you can only equip so many of them at once
  • Remember to change your MC's class to whatever you want after a while, since you won't be getting any arts or skills at all as your starting class. Also remember that you can always change your class later if you don't end up liking that particular one
  • Don't pick up gathering quests from the mission board unless they show you have all the objectives done, since they take up slots and there'll be a time when you'll already have the materials for them, so you can accept them and clear them as soon as you exit the mission menu
  • Remember you can give battle orders to your teammates by pressing "+", and you can also use the division reward consumables in battle that way
  • Enemies with an S on them are part of squad quests, so you can beat them to get squad tickets that can be traded for rare monster drops
  • Research probes give you more money on locations with discovered vistas than on A-rank ones without
  • You can spend miranium you get from mining probes to level up AMs (arms manufacturers), which gives you access to more weapons and armor
  • If your equipment has any empty slots, you can put augmentations into them by going to the Ground Gear screen, hovering over the piece of equipment you want to attach augmentations to, press X to open the sub-menu and then choose Manage Augmentations. Augs give you various nice bonuses such as increased stats, debuff resistance, extra experience gains and so on, so it's always nice to check which new ones you've got. Remember to unequip them whenever you switch weapons by going back to the old weapons' aug screen and pressing the Y button to put them back into your inventory
  • Remember you can target specific enemy body parts, which is great since it increases the damage they take and can also give you extra enemy drops. To lock your aim to a body part, move yourself and the camera around until a green reticle appears, then press the right stick button

I disarmed the bomb then Gerome died of poison. Then the Ma-non guy mentioend something about how the forensics team was going to check Gerome's body for clues. Then I found Yuyu dead, then went to talk to Jim in the Commercial District (here it said either talk to Ackwar or Jim but only Jim was there). Then I go to Oblivia and the Ma-non guy was dead because he ate poison pizza.

I disarmed the bomb so what happened to "forensics checking out the body". It didn't affect anything. Maybe this quest is bugged or something.

I feel the same way! Like...am I supposed to focus Elma or Lin to be either ranged or melee? And should I only ever have one stance or aura art equipped? I have about 200 battle points on my characters right now, too stupidly afraid to spend them because I don't know what to put them on. 14 hours in...most arts are level 1 except on my MC. lol.

1) Raise Mechanical since it's used to plant probes and a lot of the treasures that you unlock in the fields using the Mechanical tend to have great mining probes.

2) Almost all the classes are incredible fun so choose the one that you think will fit better your style, also don't forget to level up your arts and skills.

3) Explore, Explore and EXPLORE! If you feel that the world is too big try to limit your exploration to the continents the first continents.

4) While exploring try to collect the blue crystal around since those are items that could be used in some quests later.

5) Try different party members to not only level them up but also to raise affinity with them. Elma and Lin are almost always with you in the main story and a lot of the sidequests revolve around them though so you can also stick to them if you want.

6) If you want more more in depth advice then you can watch the Survival Guides released by Nintendo that go in depth about a lot of the mechanics of combat, skells and the online functions.

7) Enjoy the views.

Went mountain climbing in Oblivia a few nights ago. (I don't have the flight module yet)
The weather kind of ruined the shot but at least I had fun!

Usually the Ma-non just "plays dead" and then wakes up during the scene because he's learned about the poison beforehand... the only other choice I can think of that might affect the outcome is when the Ma-non asks if he should have dinner with Yuyu, and you tell him to focus on work instead (so he doesn't eat with her) I've never tried the other route, but maybe in that case he'd end up dead anyway since he's already eaten pizza?

There's also a video online of how the quest plays out when he lives: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEG9byeAFY8&t=26m17s

So, 70+ hours in, I finally get my skell... and it's kind of disappointing?

tumblr_nzv3whcfwz1up93fko1_1280.jpg

Maybe it's because I've been playing for too long, but if felt weird to pilot a skell. The handling in vehicle mode is just awful, and skell combat doesn't seem as exciting as on foot. Or maybe I should just take a break, I spent the whole night playing and need some sleep :p

Maybe combat will improve if I buy skells for the rest of the group. I'm already level 30 and have lots of money anyway. Is there a difference in handling between light/medium/heavy skells?
