Oh, quick question, when can I change my clothes?
I noticed a baseball jersey in the shop but I wasn't sure if it'd cosmetically do anything.

Pocket Circuit : Bumper Plate... let me guess ? Million dollar dream machine RNG ?
You get it from
buying the killer bee from the pawn shop

You can only change outfits in premium adventure, which is post game, afiak

Everything else just adds stats and isn't cosmetic

i could be wrong tho!

I've never understood Shogi

or mahjong really :(

I might have to just look up a bunch of stuff to know enough to get the CP points
not sure about Mahjong but if you want the easiest way to get the CP points for Shogi (5 wins without take backs) just follow these moves and repeat the first challenge 5 times. :p

couple of minutes and you're done.

edit: wrong link, should work now

I'm kinda in the boat of separating the PS2 and PS3 Yakuzas when it comes to preference in the series. As an arbitrary label, I'd call them "Story Yakuzas" and "Content Yakuzas" respectively. The PS2 games have much more straightforward and satisfying stories imo, but are clearly lacking in fun side activities compared to the PS3 games. On the other hand, the PS3 games kept getting bigger and bigger with more interesting side content, but pretty much all have serious issues with pacing and weird roundabout storytelling. I honestly don't have any particular preference when it comes to the stories of the PS3 games, they're all kinda a mess and not nearly as memorable or well done as the PS2 ones imo (not to say they don't have some great scenes and direction, mind).

So, my preference of 5>4>3 pretty much comes down to the scale and variety of content in each. Compared to 4, in 5 you get 4 more cities, much more in-depth Another Stories compared to 4's per-character activities, more minigames, no arbitrary character limits on minigames like karaoke... so just more fun stuff in general, imo. So, I have to admit, recent backlash over 5 has been a bit confusing to me. I just consider 5 to be more and better, with more or less the same story and pacing issues I have with 4. And I'd say the jump in scale from 4 to 5 is definitely comparable to that of 3 to 4. Oh, and Shinada is cooler than Tanimura.

On topic, so far 0 has had much better pacing than the PS3 games with some great side content too, so I'm really enjoying it. I'm still annoyed by the trend of hiding antagonists for as long as possible though, it's never been to the game's benefit imo. 1 and 2 were really well served by memorable antagonists who were outlined right from the start, so I do wish they'd return to that at some point. Other than that, so far so good.

thanks!

I don't mind cheesing that stuff just because I'm not that into Mahjong or Shogi

Now the casino on the other hand.......

Silly question but I just got the business edition and wasn't it supposed to have a hostess card? Definitely not in with the business cards. Honestly not a huge deal but it seems weird

This game is a fucking thrill. Are all of the Yakuza games as good as this?

They're all great games but each has something that will either hit strongly with you or put to absolutely off.

Except Yakuza 1 which has aged the worst.

Yep I feel the same way, Yokoyama is a horrible story writer and I think it shows in all the Yakuza games his helmed from 3 onwards. There's also this sort of romanticizing of the Yakuza with his plots, that these characters are unwilling to take another person's life and I think it shows most of all in Majima. When we were first introduced to him he was more then happy to leave a man within an inch of his life for disrespecting someone but now we're meant to believe he doesn't like killing people? The change in characters has always been something that bothered me, add to that how he enjoys pulling stuff out of thin air and it's easy to see why no game has come close to matching Yakuza 2 (Or even the original) plot.

Who would have thought that the writer behind Jet Set Radio's story couldn't match up to a professional novelist!

I'm starting to get annoyed at bowling. I manage to get 2 strikes but mess up the 3rd.

Take heaviest ball. Go extreme left or right of the lane, aim dead center of the cone of pins.

Maximum force, OVER 95 all the time, if under, I notice the pins will slow the ball and bounce it of couse.

Use rotation effect to correct trajectory.

easy strikes once you figure the trajectory thing

So this is my first Yakuza game and only played for 30m, (think I just got framed) but it gives me a Sleeping Dogs kinda vibe in that I think I'll love this game more than I originally thought to.
I platinumed Sleeping Dogs because it was just a great game overall.

Glad I finally get to play a Yakuza game.

Just beat the game...whew that was one intense ride. Now, time to try for 100% completion. I feel like Yakuza 0 has taken the spot for being my favorite in the series, I definitely loved every second of it!

yakuza 1 is still really fun on PS2. the throw parry is only in that game iirc.
The only thing that really hurts 1 is being locked in one direction once you start a combo and there only being like 6 heat moves. 2 improved on that stuff so much

1 is still easily my favourite story. I'm look forward to reliving it with Kiwami

This game is beginning to frustrate me. I got to the part early on after beating that
Bruno
thug on the streets, and then the old, weird guy with the hat said to go to Taihai East Blvd, so I get there and now what? It's night time and I believe I found the right building, but nothing happens when I get close to the front door entrance. If I stop moving around, I noticed after a few seconds, a message at the bottom of the screen says to meet with Nishiki at his car, but where the hell is he? I have no idea what to do. :(

I want to like this game and bought into the hype, but so far it seems fairly dull in terms of gameplay, leaving only the story to keep me interested. The combat seems rough around the edges, , but apparently it improves with more variety and a second playable character. Then there's the mini games which have all been boring and clunky. I think I'll be avoiding them from now on.

Do I want to have the Hidden Wallet or the Security Wallet equipped if I attempt to beat Mr. Shakedown?

If you aren't reloading and/or aren't positive you won't get caught off-guard with a kick-stomp. Yes. Security wallet please. Then again Shakedown does apparently keep even more money after he has stolen from you. If you're exploiting that then the more stolen, the merrier (to take back)!

Okay, guilty as charged.

I have save scummed when I lost to him as Kiryu but I was able to dwindle about 16 million from him while he was sleeping heh heh.

The interviews Kazuma takes killed me. This must be one of my favourite substories in the entire franchise haha.

The funniest bit is how he just let's the last guy get beaten up for protecting a dog and then smiling with his assistent saying "He was a good choice" why not help him out Kazuma instead of watching him pummeled? :p

Oh I still like 1 and looking forward to the remake, I just feel it's shortcomings and lack of content hold it back from being the best in the series because it's story and characters are only rivaled by 2.

IIRC this right, Nishiki should be at the bottom of Tenkaishi Street, you're going to go meet Dojima right?

I honestly don't remember, but I'll try looking around Tenkaishi Street as you said.

I honestly went into this game with no knowledge of previous Yakuza games but am thoroughly impressed so far. Story has me gripped but the combat seems to be a bit frustrating. I'm not too good at dodging so getting combo'd really sucks. I'll admit if I get a good flow going then it feels really good but one thing that puts me off is multiple health bars. Either way it's something I can get used and I know I can practice using each style.

I talked to a clown who said he had some outfits and tattoos or something? What's that all about?

You can change your characters' outfit in premium adventure mode which is unlocked after finishing the game.

The items you can use straight away.

You're still too much in the beginning and the combat is very simple when you start.

The car should be on the street, just south of Serena. Serena is the bar located in the southwest part of Kamurocho.

Ok, just beat Chapter 6. Holy Crap!
Why does Nishiki have to be suck a bro? Goddamn it.
That was a lot more emotional than I was expecting. (Yakuza 1 spoilers, since Kiwami is comeing)
I never felt that he and Kiryu were THIS close, but yeah, now it really feels like they are brothers ala Majima/Saejima, and it's going to suck having to take him down again, as much of a douche as he turns into.

Ah OK thanks for the info. I had to send all of the items to the item box but I think they were typical things you buy IIRC

OT almost surpassing Yakuza 5 page count.

And people were pointing out worrying where the hype was when Gravity Rush 2 had more page views! Look at us now!

I will enter the Gravity Rush 2 thread once I've finished Yakuza 0, please wait for me Kat!

AW COME ON ELECTRONICS KING GOT 5 MILLION POINTS IN OUTRUN

I just let him have it since winning back the share through money battles is ridiculously easy.

Then of course the one time I've managed to get over 5 million in Outrun since then it was for the friendship quest and therefore didn't count for the completion point.

4453100 FUCK!!

You're right that it's easy through money battles but it's the principle of the thing!

Edit: and of course I ended up on the desert stage where its hard to SEE THE ROAD

The story is so good. Majima's beginning story is as good as the Witcher 3s botchling.. Just overall I am amazed. I hadn't had a chance to set through it until today I am glad I jumped on the pre-order. Thumbs up to Sega/Sony to bringing us this gem.
