Like I said, I'd be spoiling some stuff if I detailed further. There's one more mistake though which you may or may not want to read (it literally happens in the same chapter or the one after it I believe),
there is only Tojo and the Omi involved in this story. Mainly Tojo. And of course Tachibana Real Estate.

The Kazama family does exist (they have their own office!), but they're considered a subsidiary group underneath the Dojima family. That's why despite being bottom of the ladder Dojima soldiers, Kiryu and Nishiki are still technically higher in status than Kashiwagi, who is captain of the Kazama family.

It seems the two character's storylines are starting to connect. Very interesting. Mikoto (blind girl) being the key for the Empty Lot is something I suspected a bit after she came in and I figured when all of these branches and families started hunting for her that I was right.
Definitely interested in the story and some of the side missions have been really entertaining and some heartwarming like Be My Boyfriend
where the father literally tells Majima he wants him to actually be his daughter's boyfriend LOL
and the Doll Girl one was really sweet and touching.
Still enjoying this so much. I feel like I'm still missing so much even while doing most of the sub missions and activities around the cities.
Agreed. Yakuza 3's final boss theme is still king for me. I can listen to that one all day.
Another couple of gems I love are the Amon boss theme from Yakuza 3 (fairly certain they reuse it for his battle in Yakuza 4 as well?) and especially this theme from the final boss battle of Ishin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwVlXEuaZ80
You really need to play the game to appreciate the theme, as it changes with each phase of the final boss. Add in the excellent QTE's/scene changes you get and just the overall epicness of the gameplay itself, and you have what might be my favourite end fight in a Yakuza game (its at least up there with the best).
this game too good. i'm diving back today after i get a chance.
i did the errand-kun substory. holy moly, my friend is going through the exact same drama. i need to somehow forward to plot to him to help him in his situation =D

Oooooh wow, I seriously need to get back into Ishin. Kinda got hit by a bit of Yakuza fatigue having just come off of finishing Y5 and thought it best to just wait for 0.

Out of the times Kuze's theme is played, I loved the lead into it the most in the basement fight. Kiryu running up and laying down a huge right hand straight to Kuze's jaw, while Tachibana is tied up in the chair behind them both in the shot. Getting goosebumps just writing it.

You mean get a one-eyed man to beat up the other guy?
Not entirely sure I understand how equipment works in this game. I've got Kiryu equipped a sword, but is it just a stats boost sort of thing or an actual item I can somehow use in fights?

If it's in the weapon slot, it's an actual weapon to use in a fight. You can see the damage it does to the right of the description panel at the bottom. Press down on the D-Pad to equip it in battle.
Equipment and gear are stat boosts or items that provide bonuses.

Side missions don't normally show up on the map before they are initiated. You have to get a little ways into the story before they start popping up, but once you do you should be running into them naturally as you wander about town.
the electronics king was giving me a lot of trouble until I went beast style and clobbered him to death with a bicycle. I pumped some money into it after that.
but yeah I hope input-reading, combo-breaking AI isn't going to be a thing in later boss fights. I'm too stubborn to stop playing on hard mode.
With Yakuza 0 story finished up what's next, is Kiwani the proper continuation of its story? Zero was my first Yakuza and from what I read these two set you up for 5/6.

Yes, Kiwami is a remake of Yakuza 1 which storywise takes place after 0. All of the series entries are numbered in the order that they occur.
You can play Kiwami after 0, and then be set for Yakuza 6 which comes out in 2018.
Or if you have a PS3 and are willing to go the extra mile, play Yakuza 4 and 5 on the PS3.
Know that pretty much all the Yakuza games are independent of each other, and only the characters and locations are the same thing that carries over. There are new storylines, villains and everything so you don't NEED to play a particular game to be able to play the next one. Which is why you should just play Kiwami and then go to 6 IMO.
Okay so after hours today I hit chapter 6 and I am still loving the game. I think I am liking it more and more as I go. I decided to fuck trying for completion now and only hit what comes my way and if any mini-game gets to the point of aggravation I bounce out. Best decision I could have made as I dodge all bloat that hit me in Yakuza 5.
So my initial concerns about Kazuma being the same old character are unfortunately still true. Even in his youth he still the stoic badass with a cool demeanour (who still has that goofy side). Yet Majima on the other hand I love what they did with. This actually feels like the calm before the storm as to what his character will be in the later entries. There are some genuine moments that are so foreign that it really makes the game worth it just for that. He really fucking kills it in this game and I cannot wait to get back to him. This tied to the fact that the story is really grounded (for a Yakuza game) and fantastic to boot.
Side stories have been hitting it out of the park this time. Each one feels really fresh even if in ends up in just a fight. Personal standout has to be the
Porno Mag and the Kid
. Holy shit it had me dying at every turn. Also
"How to train your Dominatrix"
is great. How these can help later on is also a nice touch.
While I was hesitant on the money being the determining factor with regards to Abilities, I must say it works in pacing the game nicely. The income works where your level should be so it makes sense that I can get level three abilities now. The rewards for completion also deserve a mention actually creating incentive to do more in the game world. Those are some amazing bonuses that you can get. Currently focusing on the Business side although I may focus on getting that sweet ass Golden Gun after.

Convenience stores and that Don Q place at the bottom of the map. For beer, it's called Malts. Everything else is labeled as is in the name of the item.
