Yeah, FF13 was a pretty mediocre game, but at least the music was good!

Nascant Requiem and Born Anew are the main reasons I have a save file just before the final boss. I like fighting bosses to awesome music.

FFXIII-2, for all it's faults, had this as a boss theme, so it gets points for that.

Didn't care for XIII's soundtrack at all. Hamauzu's style is too quiet and lacks the driving, memorable melodies of Uematsu's soundtracks. I honestly don't remember the boss music from FFXIII at all, whereas I can remember the boss themes from every single prior FF game like the back of my hand.

And yeah, the vocal stuff was trash. Keep vocal music relegated to credits sequences at the absolute most.

EDIT: The few FFXIII-2 tracks that Uematsu was involved in were pretty great though. Followers of Chaos and all of the other motifs of Caius' theme were good stuff.

FFXII's gameplay and the size of each area called for a soundtrack that was not necessarily thematic, but more atmospheric. I agree it isn't completely memorable, but I don't think that's a negative considering the style of the game. The music in FFXII really fits it, and at least it was a good game.

This area of the game and its music were gorgeous, IMO. I need an FFXII HD remake so fucking bad I can't stand it.

XII's music is hugely underrated. I feel that if Sakimoto had been given the production values of XIII (live orchestra, use of more live instruments combined with synth), people would feel differently. The music is grand in scale but the sound quality really lets it down.

It *is* a greatly thematic score, though. Just as much as XIII is, I'd say. Maybe more so.
