Mama Smurf
My penis is still intact.
I know this will have been discussed to death, but I only just saw it.
SPOILERS (obviously)
Overall the best film of those we've seen so far, and it'll possibly be the best of all of them in the end, I just don't see the future books being adapted well enough without leaving out so much content that it'll drive me mad.
I have some problems with it though. They rushed the starting again, like they have with every film, which I understand because it's generally set outside of the main story and they have time constraints. I would have liked to get more of a feeling that Harry thought he'd definitely be expelled though.
The dementors can fly now? ...why? There just seems no need. It made them less creepy to me as well, something about the idea of them drifting along the ground towards you, emerging from trees etc. is so much scarier. I suppose they wanted them able to attack him during the Quidditch, but that's ridiculous. They come to the Qudditch because they couldn't resist so many people crowded into one place (if my memory serves me correctly), not to specifically go after Harry.
Why have they changed the Patronus into some sort of blasting shield? Even when we finally saw the stag (they didn't even explain that for people who haven't read the books), it didn't charge the dementors down, it just changed into a shield thing again and attacked them in layers. It just seems such a pointless change, like the film makers think they have a better imagination for what looks good than JK Rowling.
Lupin and Snape both turning up at the Shieking Shack seemed really lame if you haven't read the books. There was no explanation, they just turned up. Lupin should have said, "I saw Pettigrew on the map and follwed you here", just a quick line and it makes sense. Snape doesn't need explaning then, he follows Lupin as he's suspicious, we see that in the other timeline thing.
No explanation of why Pettigrew and Sirius can turn into an animagus is given. Would it be so hard to have said that they, along with Harry's father, worked for years on it so they could be with their friend Lupin when he turns into a werewolf, as they could bring him under some degree of control then? It also makes the stag thing mean something and also connects to my next complaint.
When Lupin was leaving, I was just waiting for Harry to say, "Professor, how did you know how to read the map?" and I couldn't believe it when it never came. Not only is it just a bad plot hole (once again for those who haven't read the book), it's just something that should be said. He should tell Harry that he made the map, along with James, Sirius and Pettigrew, and that the names on the map are their nicknames, reflecting their animal forms.
Hermione hitting Malfoy? I don't know. I don't overly like adding scenes like that when they've had to cut so many that are actually in the book, but I guess it's ok. Or would have been if they'd executed it better. I can just, and only just, about get on board with the idea of Malfoy almost crying with Hermione pointing her wand at him, after all he's well aware she's a powerful witch, but running off like that after she hit him? Please! He should have yelled, "You filthy mudblood, I'll get you for that!" and stormed off with his cronies, not run off like a little girl! It was just a stupid scene.
I think that's all that bothered me. It seems like a lot, but I still liked it. Lupin was very good, as was Black, the knight bus was well done and whoever's playing Dumledore now did a great job. I'm not sure I'd have noticed it wasn't the same guy if it wasn't so well known already.
