YO. HAWKGUY. BRO.

I got my girlfriend to read the first tpb and she gave it a 7/10, up from an initial 6/10

Pfft

Hey, at least with the second TPB coming out in a few weeks, hopefully her opinion will change. Especially at how issue 3 connects to issues 8&9 particularly.

I tried to get a few of my friends into it, and when I show them the book, they tell me they're not a fan of the artwork.

I told them to actually read a page, and they tell me it's cool, but the artwork still bothers them.

Does not compute

This is going to be stereotypical question, but can I get into this without prior knowledge of the character or comics in general? This seems to be getting really good word of mouth, and I'd be curious to check it out, I just want to make sure I wouldn't be lost.

Ditch these "friends" ASAP. Erase them Facebook, ignore their phone calls, hide from them in public places

All you need to know is Hawkeye is a guy who shoots arrows. You're good to go.

I would have been a little peeved if issue #11 perpetuated the "dogs are colorblind" myth by coming out in monochrome colors, but it looks like the issue is instead using colors from the color pallet that dogs can actually see. Pretty awesome:

Wow that is some research and commitment.

Saw the link about the lego marvel variant covers... How funny that Newsarama listed the wrong issue number for Hawkeye (which is #2, not 15).

But yeah, I'd go for that regardless of what the actual cover will be.

I think its a tie in with the launch of the videogame in september.. Meaning that will be the cover of Hawkeye #15 around that time

I seriously cannot wait for that LEGO Marvel game. I remember thinking after LEGO Batman 2 how a LEGO Avengers game would be awesome with all their different powers, turns out we get all of Marvel instead. Fantastic stuff. Guess Hawkeye will be like Legolas in the LotR one.

That doesn't make sense in the fact that they'd be recycling a cover for #15... Unless it was just an extra interior cover marking the event.

Oh well. Too bad they used the actual Lego Hawkeye with his weird-looking hair... I modded mine a while back and he looks much more Hawkguy-ish.

The amount of thought and detail that this team does with this series is so incredible.

It truly is the best thing going right now.

Also, to get people to give it some thought I usually just show them a picture or 2 and the artwork draws them in.

Haha, unfortunately it will be delivered in a few days. But yeah, GAF really hyped me on this comic... Man, I haven't read comics in years but this thread made me jump on comics again.

I think this whole thread is 99.9% positive you'll enjoy it.

Then you'll be like the rest of us, waiting each agonizing month for more.

Ronin > Hawkeye

Wasn't Clint Ronin for barely a few months before he went back to Hawkeye? Never bothered to check that out as I think I was reading most DC during that time or I wasn't reading at all.

Still, even Clint knows that Hawkeye > Ronin any damn day. He's really good with a sword though, I'll give him that.

MOTHER OF GOD... what have I done :D

Don't worry, at least you won't suffer alone... :) Plus, re-reading is half the fun as you'll see all the details that have been planned since the beginning.

Never read the comics but I know he lost his memory and turned into Ronin or something.

And no go home ur drunk.

Still waiting for my Hawkeye order >:|

I'm planning to jump on another superhero series from the 52 dc universe relaunch. At the moment I'm flirting with Snyders Batman, Aquaman or Green Lantern. Marvels latest Daredevil series also an attractive option.

What do you recommend HawkguyGAF?

Daredevil is amazing.

Batman is mostly great but a little inconsistent. Aquaman is awesome. I'd actually really recommend Batwoman and Wonder Woman from the nu52.

Daredevil is fantastic, I'd absolutely recommend that.

Hehe, i already see that this will be a tough call. The problem is, that my finfacial situation isn't that bright atm and I would really like to stick to two magazines per month (maybe three at most).

Hmm. Tricky when there's a lot of good stuff out, the Marvel Now stuff has been pretty great especially. Hawkeye and Daredevil would be my picks, Wonder Woman is also a good read too. You'll probably want to pick up trades for the earlier issues though.

That's exactly what I'm planning. As I live in Germany I have to ask my comic dealer how far they are wirh the translation of Daredevil/whateverichoose, and if they are still on the early issues I may can pick up the single magazines. Otherwise I'll go for the trades.

As far as Hawkeye is concerned I go with the original magazines of the american version.

^If you're looking for only 3 books, get
Wonder Woman
Daredevil

My fav. Marvel book from the past 2-3 years. DD's has some of the best stories of the past 3 decades but it was Mark Waid's run that made me actually LIKE the character.

Alright, thanks for all the advices so far! One last question: Am I missing something if I'm staying in the Marvel universe and not reading DC comics? I know that I miss a ton of great stuff already but I mean some special thing that only DC has and Marvel doesn't (beside the characters)...

As a DC fan since learning to read in the late 70s, I find the current output largely terrible these days.

Just found this thread and this comic looks pretty great!

Thing is though, i'm an Omnibus kinda guy since i hate having to collect and organize all these different volumes etc.

So, is this run over yet? If so is there an Omnibus? If not how many more issues will come out? (In case i will have to collect em individually)

The current DC books for the most part are hit or miss, some like certain titles that others do not, in GAF at least.

I, personally, have enjoyed:
All-Star Western
Demon Knights by Paul Cornell
Action Comics by Grant Morrison
Stormwatch by Paul Cornell
Wonder Woman
Justice League Dark by Peter Milligan
Batman & Robin

If possible, keep an eye out on the upcoming Shazam TPB, which collects the back up stories that were published in the main Justice League book.
