Yoshi-P on bringing Final Fantasy XIV to 'Nintendo consoles': "We're having conversations, making progress, hopefully we'll have news soon"

It's always a pleasure to talk to Naoki Yoshida. The Final Fantasy XIV director, who recently released the Dawntrail expansion, was back in front of the Gamereactor microphones at this year's Gamescom. And as well as acknowledging the challenges of bringing the title to Xbox Series last year and Final Fantasy XVI to PC on September 17, he also let us know that Microsoft's consoles might not be the last to get the game.

Very cautious, but very encouraging, Yoshida acknowledged that there's a lot of buzz about whether Final Fantasy XIV will come to "Nintendo consoles" (and no one can deny from his smile that he's looking at the Nintendo Switch's successor) and had this to say:
"I'm sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo's consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible."

"So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come."

IMO , switch 2 was supposed to be out by now but got pushed back because the switch is still selling so well.

To relate this to the topic there are a few Japanese games like visions of mana that seem like they should be on switch, but square gave some vague answer like above.

Conversation:

SE: FF XIV too much for your shit console. Switch 2 when?

Nintendo: 🤷‍♂️

SE: Ok. Conversations continue? 🤷‍♂️

Cross progression would be nice, otherwise I'm not sure how many want to swap off their established accounts just to play while they take a shit.

Having discussions?

No offense to SE but have you taken a look at the japanese market? There are no discussions to be made. All you need is a little common sense, and be there day one. You think Nintendo will oppose you? For the love of God little Einsteins, get over yourselves. Yamauchi is dead, just bury your resentments. We don't care about it anymore..

Square would rather have a lot of money tho, which 14 brings to them.
I'm not Square :messenger_sunglasses:

Though when you think about it you'd have to pay for Nintendo Switch Online and buy the game and it's expansions and pay a sub fee.

So with NSO and the Sub you are paying 2 sub fees. Similar to what Xbox has to do. Sounds like a hassle longterm.

It's good on Steam Deck. The visibility is good enough while levelling, doing the regular stuff, questing.

That be nice too on the switch successor. It's kinda lttp though? maybe not? idk

yeah, the biggest issue is definitely the additional fee for NSO, just like for Xbox. people might be fine with paying for the monthly fee itself, but unless you're already deep in that ecosystem, most folks won't be so keen on paying double just to pay it, even if it IS a great game.
