Actually, it would have to be order of release to me. While there is a slight bit of nostalgia nothing can really compare to childhood experience. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Meta Gear, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy. Gran Turismo. Tomb Raider and more....also because it was just a new experience going from 2d to 3d.

PlayStation 2

Greatest time of gaming for me, and a simpler time. A lot of my favorite games of all time are from this generation, and I miss just playing games and not worrying about other bullshit. So many memories of handing the controller back and forth after dying in Vice City/San Andreas, shaving fractions of seconds off of lap times in Gran Turismo 4, barreling down the wangan in Tokyo Xytreme Racer, being blown away by MGS3, and being scared shitless in Silent Hill 2.

PS1 - Definitely my favorite. I remember the day I bought it with a copy of Gameday '99, NFL Blitz, and Tekken 3. I also remember the day I got MGS. Ridge Racer Type 4 is one of my all-time faves. I let a friend borrow it and never got it back because he didn't come back to school after that summer and I never saw him again- still salty.

I was heavily into the Dreamcast and a Sega fanboy, so even though I bought a PS2 when Gran Turismo 3 released and enjoyed it immensely (still have it and it still works), I always resented it somewhat.

PS3 - I also kind of resented it because I spent $599 on launch day and didn't have much to play for a while. I had a phat 60 GB model and traded it in when I was getting YLOD. I eventually got a white slim and still keep it hooked up for NCAA Football and the kids playing the old version of Minecraft on it.

PS4 - just kind of meh? I hate the store interface. My launch machine still works but sounds like an Apache helicopter taking off. I got a slim for cheap w/Spiderman on a holiday deal b/c I was so sick of the noise. I hate Sony's censorship policies that evolved during this time.

Love them all. The original PlayStation was something new, and Sony put the bucks behind it to make it something special. But each one has added something to the conversation. Due to generation nostalgia, I pick PS2.

The original big boi PS3 that played PS1, 2 and 3 discs, since it's the most Playstation. Posers will forget this and put 1 and 2 over 3.

Also, no-one could steal it, because it took three men to lift.

Plus when its cold, that thing doubled as a heater! Now days I have my PS3 slim next to my PS4 Pro, but I do bring out the OG from time to time to play old PS2 titles like Killer 7, Onimusha series and many titles that never got ported, remastered etc.

OG PS3. Linux, bluray, backwards compatibility, dynamic themes, Remote Play, ambitious things like Home, etc.

In terms of games it's different (not bad, mind you, just not my favorite in terms of its titles), but as a console it was fucking awesome.

Ps2 > PS1 > don't care > don't care

Ps2 easy for trilogies like bananas even before you ask for what wish for they come knocking your doors .
PS1 is PS1 , you can't criticize what's precious to the most of us.

I've had nothing but great experiences with every playstation console but I voted two because nothing beats that library

The PS2 refined the 3D experience a whole lot and there are simply better games on the PS2 imo. Birth of DMC franchise, MGS3 is better than MGS1 etc.
That should not take away from the PS1 of course because its a battle for the best console itself.

I do agree that action games evolved and play better on ps2/gc/xbox, but things need to be taken in the context of their time.
We can also have a discussion on the share amount of good games worth playing on each console, which could possibly favor ps2. However, during the ps2 era, if you ask me, the best games in each genre were not necessarily on ps2. Dmc was born on ps2, true, but to me the best character action game of that gen was on xbox, Ninja Gaiden. Action adventure games had two zelda on Gamecube and Metroid Prime and i could go on and on.

Especially if we look at absolute peaks and legendary games, PS1 wins by a decent margin in my opinion, while PS2 might have a larger quantity of "good" games.

It would be interesting though to have a head to head, genre by genre, PS1 vs PS2 poll.

Voted PS2. Mostly for nostalgic reasons. I was 20 yrs younger and had all the time in the world to play games.

It's pretty much in order of release. I like the ps1 the most because of the jrpgs, then the ps2 because of the unique Japanese games, followed by the ps3 , and my least favorite would be the ps4.

All of them? But yeah the first one was the nes of polygons. Lots of creativity and pushing boundaries on that console. It will always have that compared to the others.
The first one did have a certain charm In how in a lot of games the polygons looked like they were barely being held together as the camera panned. Tekken looked like the characters were going to fall apart. But that didn't stop me from spending hours upon hours playing those games. It was also amazing much games improved on the system over its lifetime. Tekken to Tekken 3 is a great example.

I've had great times on all of them. All four platforms are nearly equal in my eyes but if I had to put one at the top, it would be PS2.... or PS1.

All four consoles are tied to different points in my life. It is hard to judge when honestly, I had a lot more fun playing games when I was a kid.

So at first I was thinking PS2 > PS3 > PS4 > PS1.

Thinking about it, I have never bought a PS at launch window.

Had N64 and PC during PS1. I skipped PS1 but loved playing GT1 and Twisted Metal at friends houses.

Had a PC during most of PS2. I got a PS2 late in the gen but I did own my own memory card just so I could save my progress on GT3.

Had a Xbox 360 (and regret nothing) during most of PS3. Bought a used PS3 for TLOU. Didn't disappoint.

Bought a Pro and do enjoy it quite a bit. Tomb Raider. Overcooked with the wife. TLOU2. Wipeout. It's a great system and the first generation where I was "PlayStation."

I may change that and grab a PS5 in January.

PS2. PS3 is a close second.

Mainly because this gen was a bust for racing games.

you know... that's right. Put PS4 last as racers were pretty disappointing.
PS5.

The previous 4 are dead to me now. Always future forward.

like... just hit me up when you need to sell those games.
Yup, starting to feel that way.
I do love me a phat PS3.

But I don't think anything will equal the shock of booting up Gran Turismo 3 for the first time. Goosebumps.
My friend literally invited me over for the launch of the PS2 and we watched GT3 intro like 3 times in a row. That shit is up there with Mario 64, the original SMB, and Quake on a 3DFX Voodoo for me.

The only correct answer. 3 in 1.

PS1. Everyone was trying new and crazy things with the move to 3d. It was also a JRPG powerhouse and gave birth to some of my favorite franchises like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, etc.

This is the reason PS1 will always be king for me. FF7, Tactics, 8, 9, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, Lunar and Lunar 2, Arc the Lad Collection, Suikoden, Suikoden 2, Valkyrie Profile, Xenogears, Chrono Cross.

Plus the non RPG studs: Castlevania: SOTN, Dino Crisis 1-2, Driver, Fear Effect, Gran Turismo 1-2, Crash series, Spyro series, X-men vs. Street Fighter, MGS, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Parasite Eve, Parappa, RE Series, Silent Hill, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, Syphon Filter series, Tekken, Tomb Raider.

Seriously, this console birthed some of the greatest franchises of All Time.

All of PS1/2/3?

PS1 was so revolutionary and has such a diverse library. It was a day and age where people were willing to take risks and go fund and develop even really weird games.
And then you had a huge library of JRPGs that still today hold up very well.
I am re-playing WildArms right now and love it.

PS2 was when we finally got workable 3d and got our first taste of 3d open world games.

PS3 when we got "realistic" 3d graphics and online multiplayer started becoming standard in games.

PS4 is awesome too and technically it and its games are vastly superior to PS1/2/3 and their games but I don't feel it was as revolutionary as 1/2/3. I still love it and Bloodborne though.

No PsP or Vita to vote for - what is this?
The PsP was a true masterpiece and the Vita, dispite it's flaws, the best handheld console with great exclusives.

PS1 easily.

PS2 is overrated.

PS3 was an inferior 360 til the end when it bounced back, if the 360 didn't exist it woulda been a lot better.

PS4 is pretty good but too much Triple A.

I still have like 20-30 of the PS1 games we used to play. I'm going to go with PS1 since it defined in part, the 90s for me in many ways. I was first a Sega Genesis fan at only like 3 years old. Then our pops bought us a Playstation. Playing Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and then going to the beach or pier as a kid was something else. Playing Spyro The Dragon with my Sister's friend's sisters. Playing Road Rash all morning long with my classmate and friend from the block eating KFC bbq boneless wings in like 1999. Tarzan. Eggs of Steele. Roll Away. Desert Storm. 2Xtreme. Jurassic Park. 31 Atari games, Konami Classics, there was a fun Rugrats game I used to play. Tekken 1-3. Gex. Man we even had some random fishing games, pool, Army games, Small Soldiers, even an Animaniacs game. Gran Turismo 2 the cd with the checkered red and black, Desert Storm, Rayman, Marvel vs Capcom 3 I think it was with Juggernaut

My uncle used to come over and tell me and my friends when we were kids about how scared he was playing the Resident Evil games and Silent Hill lol. I still remember one time going over to his pad visiting and he was just about to fight Nemesis and was nervous as fuck looool. Fucking miss those times. PS1 is my favorite. PS2 also killed it but PS1 was the first to really step up and follow with what Nintendo was doing at the time. Video games still amaze me, to know that there were dudes smart enough to create them so well in the 90s still blows my mind

I honestly like them all equally.

PS1 for the variety and peak japan
PS2 for increadibly library
PS3 for the rise of sony's first party
PS4 for the combination of all the above

The first one. Maybe it's because it felt like the first true console I ever owned (sorry Amiga CD32), but i have so many great memories from it.

As great as PS2 was and how excited I was to get it early on as a Japanese import, my favourite console of that generation was actually Gamecube.

I know that the PS2 is the right answer but...........PS1 with Kings Field started my love affair with the Soulsborne series!!!! 😭😭😭

I can't help but vote for the PS1. The sheer volume of creativity that permeated that generation is astounding and this isn't my view coloured by nostalgia. The PS1 obviously has a fantastic library with even more games, but I felt that, creatively, they were a step back, even if they were more polished experiences. I won't even dignify the PS3 or PS4.

It's not about being a slave to nostalgia - at all. For example, my favorite genre is fighting games and I have more than 50 on PS2 alone. It was a behemoth in every aspect with availability of many genres and games. I love current content as well but many gems are only playable on Ps2. Keep in mind that many franchises people loved never released a New game since that era, such as Parappa.

I feel you. Overall, I have no fucks for old games. They were nice back then, but don't even wanna touch them even if you offer me the whole BC games for free. Personal preference, I want new tech, new innovation, new experiences.

I normally want that as well but some games, like Road Rash, are stuck on PS1 era. If I want to play that I have to get back. Same goes for Project Justice, Power Stone, San Francisco Rush, etc. Not nostalgia, just enjoyment of these games.

The HD jump especially made publishers abandon a fuckton of smaller genres and franchises. I play games from all generations no problem.

Yeah, games were more divers and plenty of varied games back then. I've played Road Rash to death, that game is just hilarious. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

PS1 and 2 are almost equally amazing for me.

However, if pushed to chose only one, it would need to be the PS2. Just slightly better memories of the games, especially the memory of DoA 2 tournaments with my mates.

Oh how I wish Sony would just release a legacy, retro only playstation that allowed me to download the full PS1 and PS2 back catalogue. That would be a dream.

Had all of them, PS4 by so much, even before you count in PSVR but with the headset it's crushed the competition. I've not had as much fun gaming on any other console. as I have had playing this generation and way more time investment along with game completion. It's easily been the height of gaming in my life and brought me back for a casual teenager/20 something to a pretty hardcore gamer. I think, even with all the bad publisher practices and the patches post launch for incomplete games it can't be surpassed for me, PS5 will have a hard time topping this one in my eyes yet i'm looking forward to see if it can, it'll need PSVR 2 and more masterpiece First party games the the ps4 which is going to be a feat to accomplish.

PS1.

Had some of the best RPGs I've ever played. The one best game to introduce 3D was Mario 64, but PS1 did a better job overall of showing the new breadth of game experiences that could be had with 3D.

All the PS consoles were cool, but PS1 was revolution. You are absolutely right.

Couldn't vote because for me it's prob between PS1 and PS2. PS1's got a really cool collection of eclectic niche games and some of my all-time favorites (Tomba 1, Tomba 2, UmJammer Lammy, Skullmonkeyz, Klonoa, Tekken 3, Galerians, Valkyrie Profile etc.), but the PS2 just has an insane library of awesome games and has its reputation with many as GOAT for a reason. Some of my other all-time faves are also on that system, like Burnout 3, GT3, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, etc.

I might give the slight edge to PS1 but that's probably down to familiarity. If I had more hands-on with some known quantities on the PS2 side I'd probably pick it outright especially considering almost all PS1 games are BC on PS2.

...Thinking about it a bit more I probably gotta pick PS1. I tried ignoring the nostalgia element but that system was a big part of my childhood, about as much as the Genesis was (had an N64 back then too but didn't play too many games on it. Really fun times playing Iggy's Wrecking Balls tho, that game deserved a sequel).
