Your PS3 impressions...

The console wars are officially over. Sony effectively killed any chance Microsoft had by announcing that GTA would be a launch game. The fact that the Ps3 is slated to release just 4-6 months after the X360 just kills it. I really do want to hear what The Microsoft camp has to say about this developement.

Oh and did you see the Tekken 6 screens. I the Ps3 can pull that off in game then Microsoft Am cry.

Sony has demonstrated once again why they are king. and in regards to the conroller, we all know they will change it.

The design of both the console and the controller is extremely disappointing, especially after the slim PS2. Microsoft struck a good balance of both approachable and slick design with the Xbox 360, whereas the PS3 doesn't even look like something you'd hook up to a tv, and i mean that in a bad way. Sitting vertically, it almost looks like an air purifier. Definitely not something i'd want next to my tv. Unfortunately, it looks worse horizontally.

How people can consider the PS2 attractive and the PS3 ugly stuns me.

The PS3 reminds me of Bose DVD players/receivers. I think it's gorgeous.

Has it been cofirmed that PS3 is launching in North America 4-6 months after X360? If so, I agree, pack it up MS. YOUR DOOMED.

Good.
A bunch of huge established franchises announced(kind of two-sided knife though).
Looks to be more powerfull than the 360.
Killzone if real time.

Bad.
No change. When you have games that have a 5 or a 6 in the title, that doesn't really scream change to me.

Ugly.
Unless they were talking about the controller, in which case I can see the change and it's not a good one. Will wait to hold it in my hand before I make my finally judgement on it.

All in all...pretty much in line with what I was expecting. But people really need to stop jumping the gun. Let's let these guys show us some games first. Christ we haven't even seen anything on any of these systems.

So far out of everything I've seen on both systems Killzone and Gears of War are really what I was expecting out of next gen, IF these games are real time.

IAWTP

The controller doesn't need to be just like the Dual Shock, but they should straigten out the handles on the controller. And with the narrowing ends of the controller, it looks as if it would want to slip out of your hands.

My impressions:

HOLY MOTHER FUCKING MOTHER OF GOD WHAT IN THE NAME OF FUCK SHIT PEOPLE THE CONSOLE WAR IS OVER. YOU'RE DONE MICROSOFT, SONY WINS. MUTHERFUCKING SHIT THIS IS NEXT GEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its Over. Game Over. Sony Wins.

awesome analysis there.

anyway, The unit itself looks very good, and the things they put in there sound cool, I can't comment on PS3 specs because I don't know jack. Though "more powerful than X360" seems to be the consensu and that sounds real good, up until this point, I was happy to skip the X360 and wait, now.... after seeing that controller..... damn. Absolute deal breaker, I will not buy this at launch and will have to play this thing for a bit and actually hold that controller for a lot of playtime before I commit to this. Gawd. that thing is beyond ugly and the placement seems horrible for just about every control there is. Could prove me wrong once I hold it though.

I'm going to be a 1 console gamer next gen and I haven't been floored yet, Nintendo could swing my vote if they have something killer. Killer being Smash online, a hot controller, a wicked online plan that rivals live (which is stellar) but for free, or the launch titles being of "holy fuck" proportions.

Still on fence on X360 vs PS3

That's like saying that X360's hardware "is nothing special". It's still more powerful than X360, maybe not by a whole lot, but it still is.

Not really.

The GPU is the X360 is obviously more powerful. The PS3 CPU is barely more powerful if at all.

PS2 never really appealed to me, but the slim PS2 is pretty slick. i'd rather have a black box than the current waffle iron design.

What are you talking about?
PS3 GPU is quoted to have double the X360 GPU shading power and the CPU has twice the Flops.

PS3= 2*X360

I like it, looks like the PS2 was dipped in new hotness.

Controller will have to wait until I can actually hold it.

Games look pretty good too, Killzone, shit, they should have just cancelled the first and waited for this one. Warhawk looks bad ass. Add a Twisted Metal or a War of the Monsters or God of War and it'll be near perfect.

That looks pretty large to me.

People saying "it's over" speaks a lot more of nervousness than confidence. And it's also fucking irritating (but what's new around here?).

I'm really getting the same vibe from Sony that I am MS so far. A few things nailed and a few things missed. In Sony's case, great developer support, nice features in the console but still sketchy online plans and a nightmare of a controller. Neither Sony nor MS have hit it out of the park yet. Both look like very nice machines with a few noticable weaknesses. How odd would it be if the bumbling Nintendo are the only ones to really nail it?

Nahhhhhh. :lol

hardware is good, design itself is good, not a fan of the controller. i personally thought the games looked pretty similar, are you guys seeing the same screens or what? i honestly thought the EA boxing game was for xenon, then i read it was a ps3 game. killzone looks similar in detail to GOW/ghost recon 3. i mean yeah PD0 looks really bad, but the rest of xenon stuff was pretty impressive to me (PGR3/test drive), and the ps3 screens so far looked pretty similar. i am not seeing the gap. but yeah, people will see what they wanna see though, i predicted as much beforehand.

Wow...alot bigger than it looked in the pics of it by itself. So much for being small and cool. System design looks okay though. I think X360 looks a *little* better, but it's close.

Console Design: Meh. What are you trying to say? Turbo Duo?

Controller Design: WTF. I hate the design. Good for a girl to masterbate perhaps - it looks like a poor copy of dual shock.

Initial Screens: TK6 looks hot, if it's indeed a realtime image.

 Who is quoted to saying the "double the X360 GPU shading power"? Last I heard it was twice the power of a GeForce Ultra 6800. Which was straight from them. :lol

Initial Impression (Before Controller Shocker) - Impressed
Next Impression (After Controller Shocker) - Disappointed
Current Impression (After viewing demo game reel) - Gobsmackingly stunned.

Good grief, that looks bigger than I thought. Hard to gauge scale without something else in the frame to compare it to.

The really scary thing is that the 360 is visibly bigger than the PS3, judging by the comparison pic somebody posted in the other thread. Oi. Here's hoping the Rev is to the PS3 and 360 as the Cube was to the PS2 and Xbox. Otherwise, I'm going to have to add a new wing to the house just to hold the next-gen systems. :p

the Fugly: the controller - worst fucking 1st party controller ever. and btw, almost this exact design has been done before. i think it was with one of those other consoles that never made it out.

the Bad: the console asthetics.

the Good: everything else. hardware rocks, software will rock.

Good: Great game lineup and recursive backwards compatibility(!!). Playing Warhawk Then and Warhawk Now on the same console is love.

Bad: Dislikeable design from console to controller to font. Hopefully it looks better in person, and hopefully some changes will be made. Say "you can't judge till you play" all you want, there's no way those shoulder buttons will be comfortable. I really liked the Alps Batarang pad (which seems to be this pad's digital-only older brother), but the shoulder buttons were killers.

Sony's mission is accomplished. They convinced me that it's worth waiting for the PS3.

blu ray DVD player
best graphics
bluetooth
6 USB ports (wtf?)
all format card reader
dual HD output
plays PS2/PS1 games

just perfect :)

Watching the Sony conference now

Luna = next gen

The GPU looks like a beast.

Edit: Holy fooking shit at Unreal Engine 3 in real time demo. And the PS3 is apparently very easy to develop for as well!

PS3 really stolen the X360 thunder from where im standing.

Im not that excited for either, really hoping nintendo deliver something special with revolution.

My impression is that having slightly lower quality graphics won't necessarily hurt Microsoft. But the PS3 is coming with a lot more heavy hitting franchises, and it will be tough for Microsoft to compete if PS3 launches in the spring.
Conceptually it seems like developers haven't completely made the leap yet. They still have one foot in this generation. So, it's tough to tell what these babies will do when completely tricked out three years from now; I'd think, though, that the most powerful system would age better, and if it launches with a lot of franchises, has broad and deep long term support, that system, the PS3, is my pick to come out ahead. But time will tell, and I'm eager to see which system and which developers go the deepest into new things... if developers really maximise ps3's advantages then over the long term that combined with PS3's more dependable stable of hits could lead to the PS3 pulling away even if it's close at first.
Note: I still have not seen anything that looks shockingly great.
Right now I'm more excited about that capcom compillation of its arcade classics.

A big LOL at the people downplaying the PS3's obvious hardware advantages. ;)

Good:
- Most likely the strongest hardware of next gen...in some cases, by a fair amount
- The usual excellent developer support (GTA next at launch!)
- Hardware packed with cool extraneous features for those interested

Bad/Ugly:
- Controller

Overall, I'm very impressed.

I'm still reserving final judgment until I am able to download some high quality videos of the demos, since I'm 56k and can't stream and see shit.

However, I love the design outside of the controller. It's something that'll blend in reasonably well with my entertainment system, which is all I want.

Bad: The dilderang.

:lol That is awesome!

Anyway ...

Good:
System Design - refined, uncluttered, high-end looking. The black is especially nice IMO (and matches the PSP).
Game Announcements - some really big sequels were announced. Some are complaining about the lack of new game announcements, but unless there is lots of video to go with it (unrealistic given when the console is coming out) what's the point of giving names? It doesn't mean much to anyone.
Controller - to me, looks REALLY confortable (the prongs actually come out at an angle downwards).
Specs - not mindblowingly beyond the 360 (not that I expected it), but enough that we should see the difference - and hopefully, not just in the graphics.
Multimedia - not much needs to be said ... 1080p, BluRay, SACD (what is HD?), massive connectivity

Bad:
Game Announcements - nothing really new. Expected given how long it is before launch, but Sony was forced to play its hand (M$) earlier than they probably wanted.
No Light Show - I'm almost sold on 360 because of this alone. Call me a Minter-whore (actually, please don't - I be straight).
No Tech Demos - I want useless effects-laden demos. They make me happy

Ugly:
Controller - to me, looks REALLY fugly ... not to mention dorky as-all-get-out. Now where's my Bat-belt.

Very impressed. I like the look of the system, and as long as the controllers are comfortable, I don't care. I wanted the PS3 to be at least as powerful as the Xbox 360 (it was painful playing my favorite PS2 games wondering how much better they would've looked on Xbox), so I'm satisfied. Now the only question is, do I import one or wait for the NA release?

Changed my opinion.

After watching the realtime tech-demos on Gamespot's stream of the conference (starts at 50 minutes in) I've gone from underwelmed to impressed. Some very interesting stuff going on.

And rubber duck is back! :D

Good
-Most powerful thus i will be buying it no matter what for the best mulitplatform games.
-BluRay player
-MGS4

Bad
-controller
-controller
-controller

I felt the same, but don't worry there were lots!

Check out Gamespot's stream of the conference from 50 minutes in, it should make you happy :)

UPDATE - 6:22PM - We have just been updated by our away team at the SCEA conference that not only will 1080p be supported by the system, but that this is considered the standard resolution for the system. Every game for the system will be in incredible, indelible, indubitable HD.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614661p1.html

That plus BRD player, Full BC with PS1 and PS2, great software support, and sheer raw power make PS3 the winner for me.

I'll be buying one at launch for sure.

you could laugh all you want, but i am not seeing it. may be i need better screens of GoW though. and i havent seen tekken yet. you telling me the EA boxing game looks a gen apart?

Now that I'm watching the conference stream, that duck demo is amazing. SCEE must be happy they were pimping eyetoy so hard, it looks like it could be a huge deal on PS3.

Hey, go read B3D if you don't believe the usual forum junkies over here. Unless there's some stuff going on we can't see, PS3 is going to be seriously bandwidth-limited next gen. Plus, the GPU is nothing to write home about. The "power advantage" is going to come completely from Cell, and the question is "is that enough"?

Regardless, IMO, it's going to be less of a difference than this gen which was, again IMO, almost unnoticable to most casuals.

Killzone and Motor Storm has got me pretty geeked. I wish Cell was 4GHz, and that the GPU had that helper chip as Axsider cockteased us with. :lol But otherwise, I'm definitely impressed so far. I want to see these demos running off the hw with my own eyes though, before I totally spooge on myself. But if the realtime claims hold up, then goddamn. That is some hot shit. Mail it in next-gen. Sony's got that shit on lock. PEACE.
