In Oath it meant backing the girl into a corner so you could walk into her, I assume it's the same here.
Fantastic. I assume I need to take her to the mines as well for the other one.

Is the level cap in Ys1 really level 10? I hit that pretty damn quick already.
Oh man that bat demon was a pain in the ass. Question though, is it normal that when I fight bosses the game seems to automatically apply this gross (I think bilinear) filter over everything and then revert back to no filter when it's over?
You can see the filter here:
I say this because I can't be the only one who gets stupid from time to time:
Don't forget to equip your weapons and armor!
I died pretty fast at the first enemy...
The cap is 10? Wow. I think I might be halfway there already.
Took me awhile to get used to the auto combat of the game by running into enemies. I still take too many hits from them but it is getting easier.
I can get both Complete (4:3) and zoomed in widescreen of Chronicles mode (30:17) to work in Ys1. After testing them both out I came to the conclusion I like 4:3 better. Maybe on a smaller screen and from a bigger distance Chronicles mode would be better. But sitting close to a 23" Monitor everything feels way too big zoomed in. Any chance this view can get pushed out with a patch?

This is probably possible through your video card drivers. If you have an nvidia card, in the nvidia control panel, you can go to "adjust desktop size and position" on the sidebar, select "no scaling," perform scaling on the GPU (as opposed to display), and check "override scaling mode set by games and programs." That way, you can have a crisp 1280x960 centered on your screen at 1920x1080 resolution. Not quite as convenient as the option being in-game, but it's a makeshift solution.I think this is most likely going to end up being the real definitive version of the game. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to scale a certain whole number factor within a set resolution, and put black bars around the rest in Complete mode. For example, at 1920x1080, you can fit 640x480*2 (1280x960), but 640x480*3 (1920x1440) is too large. It'd be nice to be able to center that 1280x960 2x image with black bars all around the side within a 1920x1080 image, so you could still have the game full screen but not looking all nasty due to an uneven scaling factor if you're not using filtering.
Yes, it is possible. I just think it'd be nice to have it as part of the game. This is probably possible through your video card drivers. That's on the agenda to be looked into for a future patch, yeah. No guarantees it'll be doable, but Sara can work miracles, so I'm betting she'll be able to pull it off somehow or another.
Probably through voodoo magic of some sort.

Any chance of future DD only games having a physical copy if x people preorder like with Class of Heroes 2? I know its a steam game but it still would have been nice to have a boxed copy of this or something like Corpse Party.
What are the battle systems like in these games?

A retail PC game from a niche publisher seems like a tall order. You'd be better off buying the PSP release.
I think our best hope is that Xseed offers premium packages through their website, as I don't see them managing to get this to GameStop, maybe Amazon if we're lucky.A retail PC game from a niche publisher seems like a tall order. You'd be better off buying the PSP release.
What the EVERLOVING FUCK at what I'm assuming is the end boss of Ys 1.
No seriously. What?

Yep. As Volcynika noted, this one is all about ramming into enemies at high velocity and trying your damnedest to make sure you're lined up slightly off-center so you deal damage without taking any in return. All set to '80s-style glam rock.
Felghana and Origin play out more like... well... think Devil May Cry or God of War, I guess? But faster-paced.

Did you climb the tower? If not, then no, that's not the final boss -- and there's a trick to beating him, which involves making sure you have the right weapon equipped.
A weapon that's not very easy to find, and requires completing numerous side-quests.
(Just a hunch, but I'm betting that's the boss you're referring to!)

It's been addressed before but Konami wouldn't have any say in the PC release of Napishtim and it's something XSEED is already considering.May i ask a question about The Ark of Napishtim?
I know Konami has the license, but any chance for Xseed to acquire it and publish it on Steam? It's a pretty great game, so it's a shame to see it always ignored. (also the PSP version kinda sucks...)
Yea this is the top of the tower. I'm using theand havesilver sword and armorequipped as well, but I can't get this punk down past half health.the blue gemma amulet
Yeah, it'll take a miracle to see the PS2 additions, but just seeing it on Steam from XSEED isn't going to be an issue unless there's something we don't know about. It's been addressed before but Konami wouldn't have any say in the PC release of Napishtim and it's something XSEED is already considering.
I personally can't wait, that game has a very special place in my heart, it turned me around from a very dark few days I had to go through.
Actually, there's one specific spot you need to back her into in order to trigger her FALCOM-WRITTEN AND FALCOM-APPROVED (no, seriously) measurement dialogue.
...And something specific you need to be wearing in order to really creep her out in the process.
Yep! Ys II is much more generous, though -- I *think* it's 75 in Ys II, though I might be mistaken.
-Tom
...reflex armor?
A short sword? No, think about the items in your possession. What item could you equip that would be the absolute creepiest possible thing a woman could see as she's being backed into a corner for purposes of measurement?
...Now I've got "The Reflex" stuck in my head.

...Wow, never thought I'd be asking THAT question...

Flex flex flex flex flex...Now I've got "The Reflex" stuck in my head.
It's creepy enough that it's an achievement for a female character, but there's also one for Talf? And he's like, what, 10? I don't understand why you guys put that one in.
You'd have to blame Falcom for that one. It's creepy enough that it's an achievement for a female character, but there's also one for Talf? And he's like, what, 10? I don't understand why you guys put that one in.
My advice is to just plain rush him down with no regard for your own safety. Seriously.
When starting a new game, that's just the artwork selection. Since art selection is tied to the savegame, unlike music.Okay, to make sure I have this all straight:
Display Mode is either the framed 4:3 view of Complete or the 16:9 view of Chronicles. Makes sense. Chronicles seems to show just a little bit less in terms of the playfield, is that correct? The artwork selection is simple enough. But what is the difference in Game Modes when you start a new game?
You need to go to a Goddess Statue to gain access to MP.Hmm I'm pretty stuck in Ys II here.
It's the first boss, I can't hurt him at all with melee. I assume I'm supposed to get him with Fire Magic but my MP is 0/0 and nothing I do seems to increase it. I've found 5 of the 6 shrines, do I need to get all 6 to get access to MP or something?
