Wha? Before the Eastern Temple and/or Tower of Hera?

I've been exploring the overworld, committed to doing some other dungeon before the two I'm being told to do (Hera and the windmill). Doesn't seem to be possible, though. There must be something I'm missing. Can someone just say 'There's something you're missing' and I'll keep at it, but as of now I'm about to give up and just follow the linear path.

Well, no. You have to do Eastern first, and then you have the choice of Hera/windmill. After that, you have the choice of 6, since one of them is a prerequisite for another.

Thinking I must've misunderstood the nonlinearity.

First dungeon in Lorule, sorry for confusing you :) It was the first dungeon I did in Lorule :)

Hah. Was afraid of that. Makes much more sense. This reply was quite misleading. Anyway, was awesome exploring the overworld. Probably did everything possible without beginning either Hera or Hylia. Those pins are a lifesaver.

My favourite dungeon was actually the
Skull Woods

Spoilers for said dungeon:
All the stuff with the Wall Masters was a gimmick I really enjoyed, and they throw one at you right off the bat.
Using them for plenty of switches, having lots of slow moving platforms with "cover", and just generally having something hunting you whilst you were solving other puzzles.

Was good fun, and loved manipulating an enemy to solve puzzles. Felt pretty fresh. =D

Even after beating the main quest this game is still fun as hell to play. I only wish there was more to do in the overworld or more sidequests that involved normal gameplay. Basically I've upgraded every item and am now a complete bad ass but have nothing to put all that bad ass power towards once I've beaten the tower of treachery. If this game had dlc missions or extra dungeons I'd buy it no question.

I agree, I think Zelda could really benefit from some post game dungeons in a newly accessible area. It would be interesting to see what Link gets up to after saving the world and also it would indirectly fix some of the problems with the rental system too.

They are all awesome. I can't decide between Swamp Palace, Desert Palace and Thieves Hideout

I put spoiler in case:
In ALTTP Ganon didn't have the red hairs/braids, he looked more like the one in Zelda 1.
However in OoT Ganon has the red hairs/braids.
In ALBW Ganon before fusing with Yuga looks like ALTTP Ganon but after it has the red hairs/braids.
Not sure if it was just a coincidence but nice touch on Nintendo part.

I just checked the Hyrule historia and this doesn't really fit in, as the timeline would be OoT -> ALTTP -> ALBW - being ALBW a direct sequel of ALTTP according to the Iwata Asks.

I must say that at the beginning, thought that ALBW was actually a prequel to ALTTP. I was expecting that the wish from Zelda and Link at the end was not restoring the inverted Triforce, but making Hyrule's sacred realm the kingdom of Lorule. That would mean that Lorule would have a Triforce but also it would be connected to Hyrule in some form and also would make sense that the Dark World from ALTTP was so similar to Lorule. I took the hair detail as some sort of connecting to Ganondorf. It looks that the chosen one for that part of the triforce is always redhaired.

The thing is that ALBW doesn't completely fit in what I expected to be a sequel, so somehow felt like a reimagination of ALTTP. Some stuff like that cult of people wanting to become monsters to survive - and then the people from Dark World in ALTTP was simply monsters, made me thing I was playing a prequel.

My favorite dungeon theme is probably
the desert palace. Because it was also a very good dungeon, but hearing those depressing chorus in it when the dungeon is actually in Hyrule, made a great contrast

Quick (hopefully non-spoilery) question: what do you use monster parts for?

It seems that I can use them to get potions and that I can sell them in the item shop; is there any other purpose?

One thing I miss from ALTTP is Zora's Domain, it was one of my favourite parts from that game but for some reason they removed it altogether in the new one :( (my only guess is because it doesn't fit in the overwolrd map)

Swamp Palace easily. Desert Palace is still my favorite to actually play (Swamp is second). The Sand Rod better get translated to 3D.

Wow. So I just finished my Hero run and I've just had the biggest smile on my face for the past few days. Got all hearts and maiamais and I think I've done everything with the exception of getting all the street pass medals. I love everything about this game.

I was a little skeptical of the rental system going in but it's fantastic. I love the fact that less than an hour into the game I've got nearly every major item and am free to explore the world in whatever way I see fit. I'm not one to get lost in open world games and explore for hours but that's precisely what I found myself doing in ALBW. I've spent so much time just exploring and discovering things that some people might never see. I was actually surprised to find things in my Hero run that I completely missed the first time through.

Ending Stuff:
Dealing the final blow by firing the arrow in the opposite direction and watching it wrap around the wall was one of the coolest moments in the game. The Ravio reveal was just perfect. I remember when they revealed the name of Lorule and Hilda I thought about whether or not we'd see an alternate Link but I guess I just forgot about it. The Hilda turn was pretty easy to see coming but it never occurred to me who Ravio might be. I love that he's wearing a rabbit costume as well. Can't wait for Ravio to get his own game.

I'm not sure where it stands for me just yet but I'm pretty sure it'll at least be in my top 3 Zelda games if not my favorite.

...I've never been more excited/anxious to hear about Zelda WiiU.

Does the Cyclops behind the waterfall in Lorule do anything? He gave me 5 rupees then said to leave him alone, lol. Is a heart piece related to this I don't wanna fight him as he seems kinda scared. xD

If you leave him alone, he won't say anything other than he has a reputation to keep. But once you get 5 Rupees, then 10 Rupees, and then 50 Rupees, he throws a fit of rage because you're mean to him and then goes on a rampage trying to attack you. He is invincible so you can't kill him and any time you return, he will still be attacking.

lol, weird. Thanks. xD

Just finished the Thieves Hideout. Best dungeon of the game so far. The other two dungeons (Skull Woods and Ice Temple) each had some very annoying gimmicks (constant Wallmaster barrage and constantly being assaulted by bats and other stuff on narrow paths), but this one was just fun to blaze through. Way better in terms of dungeon gimmicks than similar temples in Wind Waker.

My only problem with the Thieves Hideout was the boss was pretty much mash A to win. I've found that to be true of combat in general in ALBW. Very few enemies require multiple weapon combinations.

Is there a fortune teller who offers hints to find pieces of heart (like in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword)?
I am missing just one piece.

2 more dungeons down (the fire one and the swamp). Good shit.

I like how Hilda has her little scene after every other Lorule dungeon. Feels like a nice way to close out sessions.

Not quite true:
I kept asking and got 100 rupees twice before I stopped. I figured something bad would happen if i kept pushing so I stopped..who knows how long I could have gone?

Oh wow, I guess it is random? It stopped for me at 50 Rupees.

Finished the game!

Thoughts:
There was only one maiamai that was really tricky. The reward was neat, but like the upgrades, not really that useful. I was excited to finish the game to see if Majora's mask was somehow going to play a role, but sadly I think it was just a small easteregg. The Ravio twist was nice, and frankly I hadn't even considered Lorule's counterpart to Link. My favorite dungeon was the desert palace, primarily because of the titan's mitt item that pretty much allows you to get the rest of the maiamais :p

I like collectathons, gaf.

One thing I found hilarious whilst replaying in Hero Mode was the house of gales.

Viewed from outside, it's a small building no bigger than one in Kakariko. It fits entirely on one screen - however once you're on the balcony inside, it's absolutely massive and towers miles high. lol wut. Are we supposed to believe this is some kind of magic building? I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.

Also, I get serious majora's mask vibes from the Treacherous Tower theme. It's basically a mix of the Majora's Mask boss theme and LTTP's Dark Dungeon theme. See:

well, kind of.

So everyone can do the 100 second cuckoo thing? Boo. I felt special after reading the Iwata Asks where they said no one on the QA team could do it.

If the Super Mario Team can't do it, no one on earth can.

unless if you've done it then hooray

In the Dark Palace, there's a treasure chest on the top floor, right in the center of the map in an isolated room. For the life of me, I just can't figure out how to get to it. Anyone here know?

It usually takes me a couple tries to get over 100. I got incredibly lucky once though and ended up with this...

Maybe I'm sucking, but I'm dying to enemies that I meet for the first time with no clue what they do and them taking like 80% of my available hearts easily while I'm figuring them out. Also I'm two dungeons into Lorule and I still have only one bottle for stuffs so I've died three times already. Once you get into the Lorule part there's enemies on the field that takes like 4-6 hits to kill them too.

Game doesn't feel easy to me. :p

The room right below that has two switches. Drop a bomb by the bottom switch then head up to the Helmaroc symbol on the wall and merge. When the switch activates, the wall will flip around

I only died three times on my first playthrough, and twice was at the final boss. I did keep a healthy stock of fairies though, so I technically died many more times than it said.

However, on hero mode, I'm dying every ten fucking seconds.

I met the sphinx-like creature that breathes fire, not knowing that it breathes fire, and before I knew it, I'm almost dead from full health and I'm not going to even attempt to kill those things.

I think I had 3 or 4 bottles before making it to Lorule. Once you can swim there are 2 that you can get. The third was purchased in the village I'm assuming that's the one you have. Not sure where I got #4.
