When I think MJ I think two things and yes, red hair is one of them. The other is her fiery, flirty, tough but not a tom boy attitude.

But if we can't have the red hair, I still would rather it BE Mary Jane Watson, not some bullshit "MJ" or "Michelle Jane" or whatever.

I do wish we'd get her later in the series though. Mary is important as the woman he was meant to fall in love with. Gwen is his first love, but Mary is his true love. Mary is the woman he was meant to marry. I still think he would have broken up with Gwen permanently eventually had she married. If we're being more realistic. So I'd love to see her later. The childhood friends angle has always annoyed me.

Plus, the twist of her being built up to actually being hot is still great.

Gwen definitely wouldn't have lasted for Peter had she lived, I think. If I recall correctly, didn't she actually really hate Spider-Man and blamed him for the death of Captain Stacey, right? It seems like the angle of Gwen being "the girl Peter would have ended up with" was something that was done retroactively after her death.

I object to this entire line of reasoning tbh. Not specifically for Spiderman but in how it treats women as just milestones in a man's life.

If they make her character "Michelle" and just replaces Mary Jane's character were going to have a problem. Just let her be MJ. Reminds me of the BvS Jimmy Olsen situation.

Her character was initially described as someone with a minor role who becomes more important later on in the series. I'm gonna guess they might do the Spectacular Spider-Man thing by having him date Liz Allan for a period, then date MJ. They might just be skipping Gwen Stacy altogether since AmSpider-Man already focused on her.

Too old to play her opposite Holland. At least Zendaya can pass as a high school kid.
why not just have mary jane be a few years older than peter parker?
You would prefer Tom Holland to get with an actress 10 years his senior?
yes
If high schoolers looked like Alexandra Daddario i would have died 15 years ago from constant erections
well maybe alexandra daddario didn't have to play a high schooler

She looks older than a few years ahead of Holland. It looks like the school will be a central part of Homecoming, more so than in the Raimi or Webb films, so it makes sense to have MJ about the same age.
i get that high school will be a a main part/setting of the movies but even then i don't think bringing in an MJ that's a few years older than PP would be an issue. but it doesn't matter anyways since she's not MJ
Not really she has that shadowy eyed bond girl look and is great looking but doesn't standout in a crowd which MJ should.
i definitely think she could stand out in a crowd. the shadowy eyed bond thing sounds nitpickish bro

Won't get into this too hard, but Stan is still the "primary" creator and has always given Ditko credit on every issue for bringing his ideas to life.

As a comic book creator myself that works with a team, I fully get Stan on this on the subject of creator credit and "primary" creator stuff. I have a dozen co-creators for various characters, but if I'm the idea man who came up with the whole concept and wrote out all the stories, then I'm still the primary creator and the artist who helped bring that idea to life is still my co-creator, but the conception and character-building was still entirely my own.

Back on subject... I admit, I'm a bit of a purist and always loved MJ ever since her first big reveal. I'm really not in the mood for a wildly different take on the character since I think the MCU is best when embracing their roots instead of moving into uncharted waters and, to me, MJ hasn't ever really been done justice in the first place (sorry Kirsten Dunst). I'm not opposed to the casting, but I hope she's just outright "Mary Jane" and not some "aren't we clever" Mandarin-Trevor take on the character.

There was indeed a real real Mandarin who looks exactly like Trevor and is now angry at Killian and frees Trevor from the prison to have a double

Are you sure that's the case? What I took away from the short is that there is indeed a real Mandarin but we don't know what he looks like and he is in fact angry at Trevor for making a mockery of his name.

Is there a real reason any of you think Alexandra Daddario would be strong casting in this, aside from the fact that you really liked that one time you got to see her titties in True Detective?

i don't watch true detective and i don't know what you're talking about.

i think she really looks the part and has the acting ability to pull the role off. simple

Shea not a few years but 10 years older. She would work as Betty Brant or Debra Whitman.

Oh her. I've seen her do some stuff on that undercover disney show cause my kids watch disney channel all the time. I hope that's all the writing and directing that meh and not her acting, otherwise this seems like underwhelming casting. Has she done anything else besides Disney tv teen junk?
Though she is playing MJ, who as far as I'm concerned was always a poor man's Gwen Stacy, so, meh.
