Costa Rica going strong! Silver lining for me I guess.
Serious diseases permeating through the 3rd world affecting so many lives and some really smart asses making fun. Lucky no mod saw it so you got away with it.
Wait, I'm in Mexico now...
Huh? BTW, mods can see any modification in posts even if you deleted them.
Just follow precautions and buy a mosquito repelent.

Wife and myself are planning to have a baby this year and this shit happens
She's 35
We're going for it fuck this
And get a cat. All of my cats were mosquito-killing machines. They had stronger prey drive for them than for anything else.

The response to these kinds of things NEEDS to be quick & strong, otherwise we are screwed when something turns out to be a real worldwide problem. Who knows, maybe swine & bird flu would have been far more serious had not organizations like WHO made it seem like a big deal. In cases where the result could be a worldwide pandemic, there's really no such thing as being too careful. Better safe than sorry. This is hardly them "freaking out too much", when they aren't even suggesting suspending travel to & from these areas. They are just pointing out this is something that needs to be taken seriously and warning people to be a bit more cautious, especially if they belong to a certain risk group, that's hardly "freaking out"I realize how serious this is but sometimes I feel the WHO and all them freak out too hard and then people freak too hard.
Reminds me of when they were saying everyone was going to be dying of the swine flu and then it was bird flu. I'm honestly not overly concerned. Aware, but not overly concerned.
Zika is migrating, it isn't down to just local mosquitos.
Such an understatement. Mosquitos literally have no benefit to the ecosystem.
I thought some company was already trying those modified mosquitoes to start killing the species in places with dengue and Malaria.
Release them all.

The symptoms don't seem bad unless you're a baby

Seriously can we like just fucking eradicate mosquitos from the face of the earth already? I mean the ecosystem wouldn't be that badly fucked right?

There's a case from 2009 as well. Nothing groundbreaking, wait for WHO to confirm all the transmission pathways and finalize its suggestions. Can be transmitted between humans via sex.

And what, abort the fetuses? Access to safe abortions in some of the risk areas aren't too common or looked well upon last I checked.Cant this be caught in ultrasounds in the first trimester?

This has been known for a while now. It still isn't transmissible through the air, which is what really would cause problems.
Once you get the disease, do you have it and/or are you a carrier for life? Is it a threat only to women who are pregnant at the time they are infected, or will it affect a woman's ability to birth a healthy child months/years later?
My Wikipedia link (see above) has two sources including an academic journal...It wasn't confirmed until now.
We don't know for sure yet.I've been looking for an answer to this everywhere, and I can't find one.
My guess is no because the viral load decreases after the initial infection once your immune system gets a handle on it.
It wasn't confirmed until now.
It has been known to be transmissible through sex for months now.
Could this disease surge be related to climate change?
Yikes.
Serious question: would exterminating all mosquitoes, if possible, have any negative impact on the environment?
Because with all the diseases they have with them and how annoying they are this really sounds like a good idea (theoretically).
