Most previews gush. It's how they keep you clicking.Really? They were gushing on their preview.

I don't really watch previews on IGN, but usually they tend to be more neutral while showcasing some of the positive aspects of the game. However, their preview was literally "OMG WIIU KILLER APP, THE DARK SOULS OF NINTENDO BASED GOD AM CRY"Most previews gush. It's how they keep you clicking.
What if the game is "so so" though???
You hit the nail on the head with this one.
People hate when reviews don't live up to their lofty expectations.

Activist reviewers huh
How do you decide who gets to review what games?
We strive to pair up games with the person who knows the brand, the genre, and the style of game, so as to offer the most expert opinions. We also aim to find writers who care. Everyone has certain types of games that interest them. Some folks love shooters and others like a good role-playing game. There are those who want to get lost exploring an open world for a hundred hours and others who want a shorter, more directed experience. Editors at IGN speak up about the games they want to play so we make sure people are playing games that interest them, and more specifically, games that editors know and understand. Getting the right person assigned to the job is always of the utmost importance to us, and we try to make sure our entire staff is well-rounded, but also that the title ends up in the hands of an editor who can speak to the genre and platform in an educated way that serves our audience.
Heading out the door to rehab but I just wanted to comment on this.
First of all, he has reviewed other survival horror games. You can see his 7.0 scores of Silent Hill titles in that list. Second of all, he gave DEAR ESTHER an 8.0 - you can't get a slower paced game than that, nor one as experimental.
Third of all, trying to dismiss someone's clearly earnest opinion of a game you and others have not played is really just something that one doesn't even need to criticize - it speaks on its own for the absurdity it is. If you want to try to pick and choose someone's "legitimate opinions" as long as they are positive enough to meet your metric of a game you never played, I think you'll find the slope cannot be more slippery.
Anyway, thread is hilarious so far since the review. Good way to send me off. See you on Tuesday guys!
or people can just stop freaking out about numbers?

I've always said the review system should go like this:
Buy
Wait for price drop
Rent
Skip
I saw someone swing the controller I don't know.
Maybe they were shooing a fly
I don't even know what it means, but it's annoying me. Wiiu wiiu wiiu wiiu? Is that like the sound of a siren?
This is from IGN, but I think it solidifies my point that the right reviewer needs to be reviewing games in his wheelhouse. From his review history, ZombiU was not one of those games.
Doesn't gamefly carry wiiu games?not in your area?I wish red box would carry Wii u games too, or rental stores didn't go RIP, it'd be easier
Scibblenauts is calling my name but I have to stay with dem zombies
Just bear with me here. I am working my magic.mthanded i know it wasn't your intent but you're getting dangerously close to inadvertently defending silent hill hd collection
I got to go into the general Wii-U section after playing Zombi U so it's not like you would have to queue twice. It's actually pretty disappointing (not because I was hyped for it but because I spent the better part of 2 hours queuing for it).
The controls feel very sluggish like the acceleration is messed up when turning. And a lot of the gamepad uses feel tacked on like using the motion controls to aim the sniper or crossbow instead of just using the analog stick. And using the touch screen to switch weapons or access your backpack and loot things just feels inconvenient. When you die your character is permanently dead and you have to make your way back to your zombified self with a new character to kill them and get your loot. It's novel and similar to getting back to a bloodstain in Demon's Souls but only one zombie that you've killed respawns (and I don't know why that particular one does when no others do) so it's just travel time instead of any sort of interesting challenge.
What's the most reputable game review site? The one that agree with your expectations? I'm asking because you seem to know a lot more about game reviews than game reviewers themselves. And I blame every other person that gave that broken piece of crap more than a 4.
ONM: 92%
EDGE: 7/10
Gamespot: 4.5/10

I'm curious about Eurogamer's review
Who is actually being honest here? You aren't. You tried to throw the guy under the bus and got called out. You actually attempted to portray him in a more negative light by leaving out reviews that fit into the same genre...The majority of his reviews are for fighting games. Let's just be honest and admit that he was the wrong guy assigned for the job, regardless of what score he gave the game, 4.5 or 9.5, I don't care.
Just bear with me here. I am working my magic.
Jesus Christ it's a fucking FPS. It's not like there's some mechanics he needs to be educated in.
or people can just stop freaking out about numbers?
They have to review all the games like this.So they are reviewing the game without its online features ?
Logic and reason. How does it work.
So they are reviewing the game without its online features ?
You are just attempting to discredit him because you don't like what he said. What percentage of survival horror games does he need to review to make his review justified?Logic and reason = giving the slow paced survival zombie game to a guy who MAINLY reviews fighting games...
So logical.

After watching some videos the melee combat that bothers me. Typically the first blow the player lands to the zombie head removes a large chunk of the skull exposing the brain. From there, it generally takes two-to-three more hits to drop the zombie. Even if my expectation of two hits to the head killing any zombie is counter to how the game is designed, shouldn't the next hit to the head after exposing the brain be the final? At the very least the feedback provided to the player seems off. I know the length of time you play as a survivor makes you more apt at melee combat but even as a new character, having to hit a zombie that many times in the head seems off-putting.

That's a lot of games. That's why this uproar is foolish.See, off-putting to you is more realistic/immersive for me.
Personal preference is really go to swing people on this game I believe.

It came from this:
The gamespot guy didn't mention the controls being sluggish tho. But maybe that's why he died so much and had to rely on batting?I didn't see anything objectionable about the GS video review. Here's a short summary of my impressions after playing it at Eurogamer Expo, I wasn't impressed:
Maybe he feels sorry for him because of Francis' physical condition, is that an act too? He should really take better care of himself.Spoiler alert: Francis is an act.
