Zynga: Mark Pincus returns as CEO, replaces Don Mattrick

I don't quite understand why the internet hates this guy so much.

because LOLhedidathingonce remember when Don Mattrick didathingonce?????????

A lot of people blame him for "ruining the Xbox brand" or whatever that means. The culture at Microsoft has changed so much over the last few years it's completely irrelevant.

Mattrick, his arms wide.

How much money did Don make out while not improving the company at all?

Gotta love how people like him can get hired anywhere without actually tangibly improving things.

He's a gamer and climbed the ladder after EA bought a company he founded. He was just awkward giving speeches and is primarily attached to the xb1 DRM shit when Ballmer and Spencer were there too.

Wikipedia:

In October 2010, Mattrick was promoted to President of the Interactive Entertainment Business, a role that had him reporting directly to the CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer. In this role he was responsible for a collection of consumer businesses including Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE, Kinect, Music, and Video, as well as PC and mobile interactive entertainment.

I don't think Ballmer pushed the idea of a DRM hobbled Xbox One+ Kinect media box aimed primarily at Halo and American Football fans.

well the reason i hate him (and zynga) is because creatively... these people are fucking jokes...

Sure Video Games are a business... but its a business which thrives in creativity/originality. Jobs for Artists/programmers are few and the game industry is a big chance for many to showcase their talent. Games should be equal parts creativity and business... not 100% business. (im saying "creative" a lot... sorry)

But these assholes take all that, shit on it and force out pure business models with 0 creativity... its disgusting.

i like how no one actually read the thing, he didnt tank the company the company was tanking and he actually turned them around....

Current CEO Don Mattrick will leave Zynga immediately and also will step down from its board. In a press release, he said he was moving back to his native Canada.

Wow. If that ain't fired, what is? That thing about Canada kills me for some reason.

He's taking over The Terrance and Phillip Mobile Game.

Wasn't he the head of Xbox during the golden era of the 360 too?

Mattrick joined MS in July 2007. Since the development of new software and hardware takes years, his influence could be seen only 2-3 years later. Two years after his arrival MS introduced Project Natal. The product was released in November 2010, a month after Mattrick was promoted to President of the Interactive Entertainment Business.

Coincidence? I think not.

As if the move from Facebook games to mobile was such a fresh idea only someone like Mattrick could have thought of ... Anyone in the games business would have realized that.

When I saw how many GAF users would get their knickers in a twist over his E3 presentations - the Playstation cohort especially - I actually began to enjoy watching him. It was very entertaining seeing the reactions.

Microsoft's big mistake was that the successful launch of Kinect and subsequent software sales weren't because gamers and families loved the Kinect experience. It sold because the Xbox 360 was a success, not because Kinect was what gamers wanted. The dismal failure of Kinect on the Xbox One proved that. Instead of pushing Xbox One sales, Kinect hobbled the success of Microsoft's new console.

Microsoft: We would like to welcome back Don Mattrick back to Microsoft and to take the role of President of the Interactive Entertainment division. We would like to thank Phil Spencer for his work and for stepping aside.

Gaf would explode.

The original Kinect basically sold on hype and broken promises (and a $500 million marketing budget). There's a reason why people don't want the new Kinect even though it's much better. Most people's experience with the original soured that thing for good.

People would be on suicide watch if that happened. It would be a great April Fools joke, though.

This man doesn't need to work another day in his life.

That's fortunate for him because he might not get the chance.

Mattrick wasn't really turning Zynga around. Their revenues have continued to fall, and their losses have actually grown. It seemed to be quite the challenge going in, but that's why you get paid the big bucks.

He did spearhead the acquisition of Natural Motion, which made/is making Dawn of Titans. If that turns into the next Clash of Clans, then you can say he turned Zynga around, but if it doesn't, he only drove it further into the ditch with a costly acquisition. With Pincus back in the driver seat, I'm guessing it may be the later.
