Nintendo Direct Feb 13, 2014 Thread | 3DS/Wii U Spring games

Man, so all they have to fill in the gap for Wii U between February and May are VC and Indie games man, that's a bumber. And no bombs compared to last year's direct (not that I was expecting any).Just wish we could've seen more of SMT x Fire Emblem or Yarn Yoshi or at least have had one new retail game announcement.

Other than that though, I really enjoyed this Direct, finally got to see some new X footage(although I wish they could've at least gave us the name already), Mario Kart 8 looks great, Little Mac in Smash is something I've always wanted and Bayonetta 2 looks amazing!

Glad we got to see some stuff, but fuck the Wii U situation is dire.

Donkey Kong this month...no major release till May 30th for Mario Kart?

No specific dates for any title listed after that. Awesome.

Nah, seeing X was awesome. The combat system and being able to use those mechs looks really crazy.

But the bad things are the no release dates for most things. The drought is going to be insane this year.

Wait so nothing really new was announced for Wii U at all??? I mean unless you count the dumb GBA VC announcement.

I was really expecting a huge announcement of new games coming for the Wii U. Bayo2 and X were announced so long ago, showing a couple of videos doesn't do anything for me.

The only big news is that AA6 is coming and will have Shu Takumi at the helm again.

Wow... Wii U really is dead. Seriously regretting my purchase now.

Yes me too. And 3DS don't look better too, just new crap games were announced....

X's new footage was cool, but otherwise it was a terrible Direct, as usual.

When will people finally learn not to get hyped by the Directs? A lot of the users around here seem like a bunch of masochists, and the gifs of Iwata "dropping bombs" are just ridiculous at this point.

Everytime.

Dudes hype up.

Get expected stuff.

Get angry.

You'd think some would...you know...stop getting hyped?

but nope...and now the "FUCK YOU NINTENDO" part of the Direct cycle commences

Really, really disappointed as a Wii U owner. What exactly did we get?

Nes Remix 2
GBA VC Games
X trailer + releasing "in the future" (not 2014?)
Bayoneta trailer + releasing "later this year"
MK8 trailer
Smash trailer
DK trailer

Just... what are they doing?

just gonna tell myself that they were never going to annouce dq7 while bravely default is still new (for americans) so i don't give up the dream.

thought the wii u games looked great. tropical freeze especially.

I think the ground combat for X looks far more exciting, though. The mech stuff that they showed off in this one particular battle was just a bunch of shooting. I want to go chop off limbs with a big weapon or something, lol.

I don't know if retailers are going to let Wii U consoles sit on shelves until the holidays.

They have NOTHING to fill the gap between Mario Kart and Smash.

Good, but not great imo. IMO needed one standout new announcement. Even if it isn't a strictly a new game, it could've excited me; DQVII localisation would've done it, same with SMTIV, Bayonetta 1 port would've done it.

Nah, as long as they show X, Bayonetta 2 and one character for Smash I'm set. I think all 3 of those are a given so...

I leave happy.

Little Mac was godlike, favourite newcomer so far.

Bayonetta looks CRAZIER than the first, and that's saying much.

X was kinda underwhelming if compared to the first video... but that's because they've shown just ONE battle, with no cuts, and that battle looked amazing to play.

Tell me about it. I learned my lesson after hyping up one of the directs a year or two back. Never again.

Its like a vicious cycle :lol.

I'm really regretting my Wii U purchase now. All they showed were new videos of Bayo2 and X, which were announced long ago. The GBA VC announcement is complete garbage because everyone knows that should be on 3DS or at least on both. I'm not playing a single GBA game on my Wii U.

The only big announcement here is that AA6 is in development and Shu Takumi is at the helm again. Then again, nobody was worrying about the 3DS anyway. This was a chance for Nintendo to reassure Wii U owners that their purchase wasn't in vain, and they completely flushed that chance down the toilet.

Is one, JUST ONE new game announcement for the Wii U too much to ask for?!?!

The cycle of overhype/overexpectations into "worst Direct ever" continues.

Wii U's getting a lot more eShop titles and I saw X and Bayonetta. Little Mac's in Smash and all 7 Koopa Kids are in MK8. I never expected this mass amount of announced games in such little time so I'm ok with that. People got hype about SMTxFE then bitched on how long it takes to develop. Just like they did Kid Icarus and Smash Brawl. Maybe they are just slowly ramping down Wii U development until their next console.

3DS on the other hand is firing on all cylinders. Overall it was a really enjoyable Direct even if it wasn't the mass hysteria inducing hypefest everyone expected (which at this point if you're expecting insane amounts of megatons each Direct you're deluding yourself.)

About 3DS... Who the hell asked for another Steel Diver game?

That baseball game looks cute enough. It seems to have a lot of variety so that's always a plus. Good thing it's free.
I just hope this won't play like that awful baseball mini-game in A Link Between Worlds.

As for the new pokemon spin-off, well… let's just say that that 3DS line-up looks really underwhelming, except for Mario Golf in May. Good thing there are already tons of great games for it.

On the Wii U front, it was good to finally see some gameplay from X and Bayonetta 2. It's about time. Other than that, nothing new under the sun. And they're finally releasing GBA games on WIi U… I don't have words for that. That's cool for Wii U owners I guess, but 3DS ones have no such luck. I didn't get hyped before hand so at least I didn't leave disappointed.

All in all, it's clear that this won't change Wii U's fate for one bit. Still, it's nice to see them cater to the hardcore fans who bought a Wii U.

Iwata can choke on a dick for making the 3DS region locked. How long has it been since SMT IV was announced for Europe and no word on it again? This shit is just frustrating.

At this rate, we may never get it, who knows? Watch it get silently canceled in Europe.

That was so bad.

I can't believe I hyped myself up for this.

Never again GAF.

It was awful.

The 3DS has literally no games after this spring. Like nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The only thing I liked was X and that was like 30 seconds of gameplay. Bayonetta 2 looks so much different from the original.. I don't think it is even M-rated.

Looks at thread title
Umm...

Also, Smash is going to be the big holiday game of this year, but we still need to see what they plan on surrounding it with.

Not interested in X anymore. So, my list of must-have games for Wii U still only contains Bayonetta. And I won't buy a new system for a single game.

The Donkey Kong trailer looked fantastic, and I'd imagine some people are happy about the Koopalings. Good for Nintendo for doing a reasonable free/paid model for Sub Wars. I'm glad they didn't turn this into an "in app" nightmare. I might actually try it now.

No surprises overall, but that in itself is no surprise. Nintendo's HD development problems and conservative software strategy pretty much mean we won't see any major changes for another 2 years. Until then, it's safe, cheap stuff that they can rush out like NES Remix.

No FZero
No Metroid
No Wave Race
No GC HD Remake
No release dates (yeah Mario Kart, okay.....)
No StarFox
No Zelda

Nintendo doesn't care and I have no games to play until Mario Kart arrives. A 40 minutes Direct....for what? Nothing but three new WiiU trailers? What.....I'm....I'm speechless.
At least there's some software for 3DS owners.

The only thing that excited me was the NES Remix 2 announcement. Everything else was meh.

Feels like almost everything they showed for Wii U they couldn't even put a date on other than 2014. Slooooooooooooooow.

I thought it was quite good. People expecting them to do a repeat of last January were a bit nuts tbh. How many of those games haven't even come out yet? It's pretty clear that their focus is on the spring. You'll get your new announcements/games direct later in the year or at E3.
