Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

so when i switch from 1440 to 1080 the picture seems to get washed out in fullscreen.

anyone know how i can fix this?

Goddamn, the in game twitch streaming option on Origin, medium quality is brutal. Gonna have to test it on high, then try OBS.

This game is a lot of fun, a lot more fun in hardpoint than team deathmatch. I feel like objective modes will be a lot more fun because you can try to use your titan to help distract at another objective while you go a different one.

I think I mostly just like using every speed and parkour boost that I can and using the SMG or Shotgun and run circles around everyone.

Using the shotgun and hitting other players in midair is super satisfying on PC. I can't see pulling it off on console the same way.

Also the 40mm gun for the titans is awesome.

Man I am getting HELLA Titan crushes with my Titan.

I've gotten 3 or 4 already and it still feels awesome every time.

I don't think I screenshotted the first one, but I got the others.

Also, I felt like I totally was wrecking shop in this match.

570 here, texture res on medium, everything else on high except for shadows / lighting and am getting 60 solid -____- but the texture res makes the game look like ass

Yep! I figured out afterward it was the texture resolution that was murdering my framerate. Lowered it down and now I'm golden. Solid 60 (except for the initial warp in but that doesn't matter.

I wasn't that hyped or interested in this but went for a beta key to see what all the hubbub was about. It's pretty damn fun.
The traversal is really cool. I'm one of those odd people who doesn't care about and even likes first-person platforming (climb maps in CS:S are fun :D ) and the parkour just seems to natural. Only part it gets a bit fiddly is when it's in a narrow closed off ally. Like |_| end up bouncing around a bit if you try and wall run there I found.

The titans are cool and they got the balance right with them I think (judging by this one we have). The shield is fun.

Played a few rounds of all the modes. Last Titan Standing is pretty cool how you can try and hide your titan and go on foot, or fight alongside it in AI mode or just fight in your titan until doomed then eject and try and get some revenge.

Played with everything on highest settings and it looked alright. Nothing next-geny or super great but that's fine. Not too sure about the price of the game though. It's just a problem with me I think but I don't like paying full price for multiplayer only games. I know that's stupid because I feel fine with something like BF3 where the multiplayer is the reason to play. I guess it's because of the bigger player count and huge maps/vehicles etc.

Anyway, it's loads of fun and I do want to get this.

This game is INTENSE. I'm absolutely loving it.

But I'm experiencing this really annoying issue. For some reason my character wants to drift to the right and if I don't correct it by yanking the joystick in the other direction he'll start walking sideways on his own. I thought it might be my controller, but I just tried Forza and Ghosts with absolutely no issues at all. Anybody else have this issue?

Alright, got some good rounds in with a friend. Game's pretty damn awesome. Quick random thoughts:

The jump-jetting, wall-running and mantling all works really well. Most satisfying FPS movement since the Tribes series.

Aiming (with mouse) felt a tiny bit 'slippery' somehow coming off of BF4, if that makes any sense. Adjusted to it quick and started running a positive KDR after my first round.

Weapon balance seems fine at first brush. I was worried about the smart pistol going in, but I'm sold on it -- it's funny to use when sneaking up on people, but the locking mechanism puts you at a pretty severe disadvantage when head-to-head.

Titans are fun to use, and surprisingly potent when on guard/follow mode.

Had no idea what Burncards were going in, but that seems like a nifty little mechanic.

The couple maps seem nice with good flow and lots of opportunities for zooming about. Wish there was a map list... hopefully that's coming soon.

The game might not win any awards for highest-tech graphics, but I really like its visual style. It looks real nice and runs super smooth on my ~4 year old machine.

Netcode... no comment (I shall now proceed to comment). Was playing on US East with a 120+ ping, and could see the delay clearly in the killcams. Hard to know for sure without knowing weapon damage or without a formal test, but hit detection seems alright. Certainly better than BF4.

I think someone already said this earlier but if you or a friend gets into the servers you can invite them via origin and they can enter as well.

Alright, after playing 5 games or so and getting to level 4, I can already say this game COMPLETELY lives up to the hype! It's just damn fun. The maps are just pure chaos and non-stop action and wall running and titan ejecting have to be my two favorite things to do in the game.

Anyone saying this game is just Call of Duty with mechs... No... Not at all! In fact, I played the first match like I would in CoD. I got demolished and my Titan lasted about 30 seconds. After I got used to the new play style I got a lot better but CoD this game is not!.

General impressions after about 90 mins.

I really enjoy the pilot portion of the game. The vertical nature is where the game truly shines, it made it fun chasing people down. Numerous times I would be running after someone and they would take a corner, being able to leap over stuff to catch up is really nice. On the same note, being able to wall jump or quickly change course made it easy to get away from people. Perhaps it was the levels or just my lack of knowing the maps, but you really cannot link/string together wall running or anything. Numerous times I felt as though it wouldn't have been any different if there was simply a crate that allowed me to (A) prompt over.

The gunplay feels right, the weapons seem rather balanced for the most part. I came in thinking that the smart pistol was going to be OP, it really isn't. People move so quickly that it can be difficult at times to lock on. This is something that could change depending on the map, but overall it seems fine right now. The AR is by far the best weapon out of the three primary available, again this could be because of the maps that we have.

No point in discussing the brain-dead AI in any length. Only thing I will say is I found a separate frustration with them that I wasn't expecting. They are everywhere and the chaotic nature of the game makes it difficult to tell the immediate difference between AI and enemy player. You see 3 AI and 1 enemy hiding between them, it just made it a pita to kill the actual player.

People die way to easy, easier than in CoD and this is a bad thing for me. It just turns into a game of who shot first.

Could be a play style issue, but it seems that you are better off just launching your titan immediately and putting it into follow mode. This way you maximize titan time. Before I did this I noticed that I was sitting on an available titan for far to long, because I wanted to pilot it even though I was doing better on foot.

Are there any special video drivers out for Titanfall right now? I'm getting some odd looking artifacts in game, and while I can't rule out 'just a beta', it's got me wondering.

For PC players with 120hz monitors, if you enable V-Sync it allows you to render above 60fps.

If you want to play at 120fps and also NOT use V-sync, then if you force V-Sync off with Nvidia Inspector and then enable V-Sync in game (It'll still be off because it's forced off) then you can play at 120fps without V-sync.

Just a small tip for those who need it.

has anyone destroyed the enemy dropship? lol

also pilot gameplay > titan gameplay though both are highly enjoyable

Yeah! My first game me and all of my team were all in Titans at the end and we Tore. That. Shit. UUUUUP. It was awesome.

Jesus, it runs at max settings with no frame drops on my PC, I don't think I'll be getting it on XBone.

Granted there's some pretty heavy network lag, but that'll depend on each game.

This shit is absurdly fun, though.

I took to doing this as well once I discovered that titans are actual threats when in AI mode. It seem like a pretty legit tactical choice to call down your titan even if you're not going to drive it right away. Sometimes it's nice to have it tail you while you run rooftops, or have it watch an approach to a point you're capturing. Pretty cool imo.

Guys, just join the Northern Europe server if you can and you'll get in RIGHT AWAY. The latency wasn't too bad (120 for me) and it wasn't really noticeable enough to warrant me not playing the game at all otherwise and ironically enough, every single player in the game that had the mic was from North America who figured the same thing out.

If you want to play tonight and have tried your regional servers for hours with no luck, then try Europe out and at least get a taste of the game.

Yeah, I like how they went out of their way to make pilot gameplay especially enjoyable, while making Titans powerful enough that you want to pilot them when you can.

You get better at discerning AI from player over time but yeah there really needs to be more visual distinction.

Agreed on dying too fast, but I don't play CoD so it's even more jarring.

I like to bring the Rematch card because I drop my titan asap as well. If I die before I can get in, I just respawn on top of it. Really useful card.

you can kill the dropship surprisingly easy if your team's actually trying to do that and has multiple titans. Burst fire 40mm cannon with damage core can do like half of it by itself. Had a team earlier that brought it down 3 rounds in a row.

You get a nice little bonus and of course all the kills from people who were inside.

yeah that is the one positive thing I'll say. Game looks hideous as fuck, but I can basically max all settings and get crazy great framerates. I haven't tried downsampling yet, but I bet even that'd work for me. I couldn't imagine trading those benefits for an XBO version, it's like seeing a Ferrari and then settling for a Kia.

I played for about two hours. It's ok, reminds me of CoD fast paced spawn and die at times though. Makes me want to play BF4 actually

pretty impressed. only complaint is i dont really find the titans all that fun. they lack the movement and finesse of pilots, but worst of all, its all too easy to get into traffic jams, particularly in angel city. last titan standing also sucks.

It's a pretty good looking game. Don't know why the complaints say otherwise. But hey, it is what it is. Pretty fun though I'm waiting to see if my friends will pick this up or not.

The game might be a lot of things but pretty good looking it aint, it looks like hot garbage on xboxone although it wouldnt look as bad if ms didnt fuck the console up with the worst scaler even made. I hope they patch that shit as its getting to the point i dont want to buy any game that isnt native as it is made to look worse by that pos scaler.

Has anyone messed with the sniper yet? I just can't imagine it with how the game plays out.

That and the shotgun I want to start messing with, played it too safe so far.

Game's a ton of fun. The agility of the Pilots is really great.

Is there anyway to decide what team you'll be on? I've only been on IMC so far (havent played too many rounds though)

Huh, this really is just COD with mechs. Entertaining for a little while but I'm glad I didn't buy it.

Really is not a fair criticism, and I made the same one prior to playing it. The verticality of the combat, parkour-esque wall running, etc. are all exceedingly well done. The big problem is the two maps that they have do not make great use of those features. I was expecting that I would be wall running/jumping all over the place like it was super metroid, which is not the case.

The big problem in the room though is the fact that pilot+titan on follow>piloting a titan.

...but worst of all, its all too easy to get into traffic jams, particularly in angel city.

Holy crap, this. Countless times I would find myself in an alley and had to turn around or stuck around crates w/e.

Nope, it'll just randomly toss you into one. The game doesn't seem to switch up teams at all inbetween rounds though, so if you play in the same server you'll stay on the same team.
