Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

I don't like the how visually similar the grunts are to players and how many of them there are.

It's not fun to kill defenseless grunts, it is fun to kill other players. When the creeps kills are often 2:1 to player killers, I'm disappointed
Like someone said, think of the grunts like coins you collect to spend on titans.

After having a chance to play a fair bit, I am of the opinion now that burn cards shouldn't be there. Their entire purpose is to just give players a leg up and offer nothing to the overall experience.

I'm under the impression there are in the game only to demo some stuff from the full version, like other titans and weapons. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't even in the final version of the game, at least in the current form. Shame we know so little about the full game, a month before release.

Quick update, if anyone's wondering - game runs mostly fine on Core 2 Duo E8400 @3GHz, 4GB RAM and GTX 560 Ti (haven't checked framerates with Afterburner, but I'll update again if and when I check it). Although it stutters, since I put everything on High, and AA on 2x, but it's playable. Gotta turn down few settings and see if that helps with the stuttering, but since I'm weird and crazy, I can play it like this and I will most probably play it like this, without turning down most of the settings.

So, anyways, which store's got the best deal to preorder it on PC?

If you dont mind screen tearing, it runs like a dream without V Sync; on my set up anyway.

Playing on PC, there's this odd judder whenever I turn or move. I remember people talking up the ridiculous amount of vram the game uses, and I only have a 2GB card. Maybe that's why?

Just got past the tutorial, fun stuff. The only problem I notice on my rig is that the game goes to shit during the combat tutorials. It might be frame drops, but it feels more like packet losses, with the character "warping" about and so on. Feels very odd; maybe the game essentially expects it to run at 60 fps, and goes bonkers when my PC can't hold up? Or is it because the tutorial is also dependent on the network connection, and the servers are getting hammered now?

I get that part already, it's the not-dying-in-a-titan party I don't have down yet. Other titans kill me pretty quick and I get rodeoed a lot, forcing me to eject. And then I can't find the player who jumped me fast enough to not get killed by then once I'm on foot.

They're still not fun to play with. I can't tell them from players from a distance and they offer no challenge at all. They're not enjoyable for me.

Then ignore them like you do any of the static geometry.

Use the electric cloud instead of the shield and you can just electrocute anybody who jumps on top.

Ye that smart pistol is really balanced.

It is a hell of a lot more balanced than the carbine or the shotgun. ;)

I tried the Training Simluator, the gameplay and mechanics are pretty fun.

Too bad my laptop Intel HD 4000 is horrible, I probably need to move to my desktop computer...
Can you tell me which driver are you using for your Intel HD 4000? Mine is causing graphical glitches for me in game and i am using the latest version.

If you get rodeod a lot and don't like exiting the Titan to get rid of them you eventually unlock the electric smoke perk for the titans it will get them off you.

I do think the bots allow you to kind of blend in if you wanted to, like assassin's creed multiplayer.

But also there's no point in moving so slow so there's no point in doing that.

I think the game is a LOT more fun in hardpoint because it draws the pilots to the hardpoints and you run into pilots more often. In generic deathmatch people seem to just sit on rooftops a lot of the time and it feels empty on the ground.

I like killing grunts, they're definitely there for padding so you can get your titan earlier, but strategy wise if you shoot at them, you're also going to reveal yourself on the map as well.

Nothing like showing up a hardpoint in a titan, hopping out and setting it to guard, going in, throwing a stun grenade, clearing out two dudes, capturing it, and then hopping back in to fight off the enemy titan that's arrived.

Are you using the in game Vsync? It doesn't work properly and makes the game judder.

I sincerely doubt their will be an option to turn them outside of private matches. Many of the challenges in the game require killing them.

Why would you want to turn them off? I don't understand the complaints.
It is a semantics problem started by calling them "bots". They should be called grunts and every time in an interview or twitter or wherever the dev talked about the game they should have reinforced the point. People hear "bots" and they think replacement players.

They're not terribly fun to shoot at is the main issue. They're hard to tell apart from a real player once you get past a certain distance. They're not even that valuable from a gameplay standpoint. Taking down another player is always a better option when given the choice because you get four times the score, and the AI wasn't a threat anyhow so...

It's true they're not really bots, but they don't really make the game experience more enjoyable. I just find myself frustrated when I was shooting at something I thought was a player. Especially in the color-blind unfriendly Fractured map.

Overall its an amazing game so far. Its has the possibility to be the cod4 of this gen. I understand why people don't like the bots. But without them it would be boring as crap. The maps are to big for 6 v 6. But any higher player count would just be total chaos with titans

Protip: Stealth assassination on a bot is worth as many attrition points as a Pilot kill.

I don't know why people don't use their minimap. If you see it and it is a player it will be a giant red blob on your minimap. A bot will be a tiny orange/red dot.

Do you use your minimap? Just ignore the small points and go for the big ones.
And if you feel safe, why not shoot the Grunts and Spectres (or hack them) for extra points and reduced time. I really don't get it, lol.

The amount of times a situation comes up where I'm undetected by a bot and a player at the same time is fairly small.

That's what I've been doing. Mostly focus players. Only time I really worry about grunts and spectres is if there's not another player to shoot at.

Yeah, I think that's a cool part of the balancing. if you go smart pistol your bound to rack up tons of minion kills but be ready to switch to secondary weapon when you see a pilot.

Secondaries aren't much use to be honest. Primaries reload quickly and secondary damage is horrible. The time it takes to switch you've already been killed---if not then you had time to reload your primary. :)

You don't run with cloak? I use it all the time. There are also burn cards that disguise you in other ways. Cloak, run into a chokepoint, if there is a Pilot, kill it, if not get a stealth kill on the nearest bot and then execute the other 3-5 in the vicinity and move on to the next chokepoint in your search for pilots. It is about efficiency and getting your titan dropped before anybody else and as often as possible in a match.

If you really hate the bots that much I'd stick to Hardpoint and Last Titan Standing modes where they're almost no factor at all. Hardpoints focus the Pilots in 3 areas so you can always fight Pilots and LTS is all about killing Titans as quickly as possible Titan on Titan or Pilot on Titan.

My only hesitation before I pre order this...

...is this going to be the case where if I don't stay playing consistently, I'm going to be at a artillery disadvantage? The reason the beta was so fun for me was because everyone was at an early level with regards to weapon choice, so it came down to how well you could run the map and strategize rather than, "I played 300 hrs, I have the insta-win load out!"

If it's not a worry, I'm buying it.

Had a burn card to try that 5 shot semi auto sniper. Pointless. The game is too fast paced. Whats better is when I just started a match I used an ogre card (got two of them so far). So at the beginning I have my ogre. I hope in and start running forward. Game crashes. Wasted card.

Its apparent with the ping burn card that shows where all nearby pilots are is heavily favoring people that stock such things.

Been wondering....

I wonder if it would be possible to make a MOBA gametype in Titanfall. Like imagine a Titanfall Expansion Pack that came with a bunch of new maps and new AI that you need to safely lead to your enemies base.

I usually switch to secondary when I see a pilot. But yes if a pilot sees you first its over.

Well, all MP can be a bit like that.

that is amazing btw. i now bait pilots into jumping on me, lol

Is it hard to find other pilots? Cause allot of the scoreboards have very few pilot kills
I average between 5 to 14 pilot kills per game. Like any game, you get better as you learn the maps and player behaviours. I still see Pilots running in the middle of the map with no sense of direction or verticality, they'll get picked off in seconds when I see them.

First impressions is that I actually like the bots. Adds to the all out war mechanic and makes you feel part of a larger conflict. Whether this sustains itself over the long term remains to be seen.

I also find it really surpising how polished the game is right now. Other than some slow down here and there, there is nothing that screams BETA (unlike the bf4 beta etc.).

Definately see some single player potential here if they ever decide to flesh that out.

I'm sure it's possible. Super Monday Night Combat did an okay job for collaborating shooters and MOBA.

Well, all MP can be a nit like that.

Then you've never played games like unreal tournament or quake 3 arena. This style of progression is more a Call of Duty inspired thing. I was hoping the game was balanced in such a way that weapon type only helps to gel with your play style, not necessarily give you an undeniable advantage regardless of skill.
