Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

yNKvKEF.jpg

I'm really loving this game. Had some crazy moments while using the Titan.

i cant play today at all =/ im way too exhausted.. need to sleep =/ will play late tonight however to get my fix.

cant wait for the full game, more weapons/maps and my beloved stryder titan.

hype.

Okay so I played with the Ogre Titan. You have one dash bar. The thing moves a bit slower. It was more survivable but that wasnt enough to justify the loss of mobility. I have no idea what the special powerup is. I doubt it will change my opinion of the thing.

I just got a stryder card so Ill try that out later.
Funny how a game like Crysis 3 can have some of the best textures seen ever, yet require so low VRAM due to their streaming solution.
Even higher texture settings Titanfall looks a bit crappy. Its not a looker. MW2 looked crisp. This doesnt feel as crisp.

I got a burn card to get a 3-burst version of the pistol, it's the 'RAFFICA' if you played COD of BF you know what it is.
Daaamn I wish we can have it as a permanent weapon/upgrade later on, it's so cool and fun I used only this till I died

I find their use of the word "insane" to be kinda laughable. The textures are some of the worst I've seen.

Perhaps it describes the "insane" vram requirement though. Maybe it doesn't actually turn up the texture resolution. Just uses more VRAM for fun.

I'm not really digging this game that much, I think the Media hyping it to astronomical proportions is what killed the buzz for me.

The titans are cool, but little gun recoil, stupid bots, are what ruin the experience for me.

This game is way over hyped, I will Cancel preorder, and continue to play Loadout until infamous, and something else comes out.

It feels too much like COD, and not enough with it's own identity. I think a single player campaign set in their interesting universe would have complimented the game a lot more.

I am not sure if some of these Burn Cards are showing what unlocks you can get at higher ranks. Personally I would prefer they keep some of them to Burn Cards but they do need to add a larger varietyy of weapons.

Some sci-fi guns would be cool. :D

Will we be seeing any modes that are actually interesting in the retail game, I wonder? The current ones (Last Titan Standing being a possible exception) aren't interesting at all.

I would like to have something similar to Hawken, Tribes: Vengeance, or even Monday Night Combat in which each team has a base that the other team has to infiltrate and destroy. There could be turrets around the base that some players could maintain, for example, and the Titans themselves would be just about the only things that could reasonably deal with the turrets, so players would have to devote the Titans not only to killing players on the enemy team, but also weakening the enemy base's defenses so that players and A.I. grunts alike could storm the enemy base and destroy the reactor (or whatever the main objective would be).

Currently, it feels like there are no real playstyles or roles to take up: You just spawn in, look for people to kill, and repeat until you die or the round ends. In a "base attack/defense" game mode, however, you could choose to hang back and defend your base as well as maintain base defenses, go out and actively hunt enemy players midway between the enemy base and yours (there could perhaps be a large city serving as the middle-ground), or of course focus on getting a Titan as soon as possible and sieging the enemy's defensive structures to pave the way for your teammates to rush in and win the game.

Maybe something this complex wouldn't appeal to most folks, and maybe Titanfall's developers only want this game to be geared towards the "spawn, sprint, kill or die" gamers who don't want to have to think beyond that three-step process. Nevertheless, I think such a mode would be a great addition to this game.

Yea, that's one of my main issues, there's nothing that can distract you, or give you points outside of just kill grunts and titans.

Kind of disappointing IMHO.

Ok I can't play the game at all now without connection issues. Played 4 rounds flawlessly earlier and now it keeps stuttering, freezing and saying connection lost

Also I had the bots, literally hate them. So many times I thought they were real guys and went after them, just to kill them and get distracted so a real dude got me

Since they are adding the modes into the SP/MP narrative stuff, they are supposed to blend them in that way. Early footage showed the Hard Point Domination mode linked to getting ships refuelled. If you play fracture you can actually see ships flying around getting fuel as well!

I hope they have more objective modes outside of the classic FPS stuff. Sure CTF would be cool, as would a Titanfall version of Battlefield Conquest Mode but I want to see some fresh stuff.

into the trash it goes

unless there's a loadout unlockable to get extra dash bars, of course. I'm curious what the special abilities of ogre and stryder are, but if they're just a shield or speed booster then I don't see the point. Damage booster is too good.

I am really noticing the difference in visuals post patch, looks great.

I'm also really enjoying the last Titan standing mode , it's my complete favourite, plenty of mind games being played.

Need to roll as a squad tho.

Add me on Xbone as Gowans007
I'll be on in a couple of hours for a long and chatty session.

I am getting better with this game but I haven't gotten as crazy as some streamers yet.

I wish we had other weapons cause I hate anything that isn't the ACOG at the moment. Still have to try out the sniper.

Yeah I dont remember what the Ogre had. I had two Ogre cards but the game crashed when I used my second one. Which is bullshit btw. Oh and the dashbar felt like it recharged slower. But that could be a placebo effect.

This game produces some awesome moments. I think objective game modes are the way to go. Last Titan Standing is a lot of fun as well.

Servers are so fucked right now, at least for me. Keep getting stuck on loading screens for like 5 minutes or so then it just kicks me back out to the main menu. Can't even start the training mode. :/

Crosspost from the PC SCREENSHOT THREAD. Downsampled from 1800p, with max setting, 8xMSAA

Not too bad!

Given that amount of sampling, I really expected those images to be cleaner. They still seem very jaggy to me...

edit: is the cockpit in the titan just a blurry texture overlay?!

I'm confused with the CoD statements. Maybe it's because I'm playing as assassin, but this game is way faster, has the parkour elements and obviously the Titans are a big game changer, all without the perks system of CoD.

They feel pretty different to me.

So funny how few people realise defending the hardpoints gives you crazy XP.

Stick a titan on guard outside the point and just sit on that sucker. Top the server every time just doing that, and its actually helpful to the team.

Had a moment today where I was surrounded by four enemy titans (I was in my own). They all converged on me and took me out, I ejected and my titan exploded (I have the nuke ability) and killed all four titans at once.

It was amazing.

Ive started using the electric smoke. Its like mosquito repellent. It either causes pilots to stop jumping on and shooting your brain, or they die outright.

I dont like the lockon missile because I cant spam into rooms and stuff when a pilot tries to run away. I find that much more important.

I have died exactly once to a nuke and it was when I tried to dash away and a teammate was behind me in a choke point.

yeah I did one hardpoint match and got 20k exp. And I came in late.

I mean I was level 14 after like 3 hours but that would've made it 1 hour

Huh??

I get the COD part, but you lost me on the identity part..

Not enough lore, or defining gameplay outside of mobility and titans to make it stand out more.

Like Loadout has the cartoony/loony toons vibe mixed with Team Fotress/ and Unreal Tourney.

The upgrade system, point system, weapons handling feels too much like call of duty to me.

I think it's evident by now that it's not. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that it's over hyped.

The tons of other people in the other impression thread and this one would beg to differ. I am not in the minority. Gameplay/mechanic wise the game is fun too play. But like I said the AI bot stuff feels like a handicap for unskilled player's instead of this being a purely skill based game.

I don't think this is fair at all to say after only playing a beta with only two maps and limited modes.

I can't live without the shield. Whenever enemy pilots try to use that lock on missile I just spin and grab it out of the air. I've even blown some of them up with it. It's not bad against enemy titans either, because it seems like I'm the only person who knows how to dodge.

I rarely have trouble with rodeo attacks, I just hop out and shotgun them. Maybe it'd be more of a problem if the people I was fighting paid attention.

I like the slaved missiles because they warn me of titans by locking on as soon as they're in my view range and I never forget to use them because of the BEEEEEEEP. You're right about the splash damage though. Now that I'm used to using the missiles I might swap back to the dumbfire.

Apart from a few Hammond videos, they have said nothing about lore. Also playing a Demo/Beta and saying it is not showing enough lore is crazy.

So apart from mobility, more vertical gameplay, Titans, MP mode with SP elements in it...what else did you want?

Again with the upgrade system. Seems pretty safe and its the system that works well for the majority of players. It makes sense why the weapon handling is like CoD and not everyone likes it. Just one of those things you either get on with, or hate forever.

While on foot I think this game is less about your ability to aim/shoot but your ability to move around and flank. It gives you so many tools to do this that those who exploit it will do the best. While in a Titan the game is totally different, though.

Well since the campaign mode that basically is a variant of what we have been playing in the beta, I would say we need more lore, and distinctive elements in multiplayer to make this game stand out more.

Outside of mobility, and titans, this game has a been there feel. It's fresh in terms of flying around and punching people with the titans. But the AI bot stuff take me out of the competitive edge.

It's too hard to distinguish bot from actual player.
