Even after downloading/installing the patch 1.02, I'm still having issues on being summoned/summoning others at The Lost Bastille (I'm thinking it's the bonfires in close proximity to each other). Yet I can get summoned at No Man's Wharf just fine. Can't get summoned at earlier spots in the game (probably due to being overlevelled).
I'll just stop for awhile -- I did encounter an unusual bug in No Man's Wharf though....I was summoned to someone else's game and the main player/other summoned person both disappeared but they didn't die/get vanquished!
BTW, i've been dual wielding a dagger in my right hand, and staff/miracles in my right.
I'm going full on magic build, but i just got a notched whip.
What do you guys think: should i replace my dagger with a whip? Would focusing on DEX to wield a whip be a bad idea? What kind of damage can i expect outta this thing?
If you're gonna invest a bit in dex I'd rather go for buffed rapiers. I don't know how whips stack up in the game yet since I still have to try them but unless they got a decent buff I wouldn't put too much stock into them.
You can rest at the bonfire without them respawning, so long as you don't teleport somewhere or die. That way, you can clear out the place bit by bit, rest, then run to the boss.
So poison weapons seem totally useless. Mobs just die quickly (using an unupgraded manslayer) before they get poisoned I guess. Has anyone succeeded in poisoning a boss with a poison weapon?
How long is it taking for the majority of you to download the patch? I'm glad I checked the thread again or I would have been greeted with an unpleasant wait when I was ready to play. I'll get it started as soon as I get home.
I was in the same boat for about 3 days this week. Went through nearly 30 effigies trying to kill him.
I would highly recommend taking a little time to upgrade your pyro flame, buy some powerful pyro spells (especially Flame Swathe), and respec your character with a focus on ATN, FTH, and INT. I did this and was able to beat him first try. He ended up going down in about 4-5 spells. I used Flame Swathe twice as soon as he started splitting, and neither clone even got a move off before they were dead.

Got me a poison shotel, and poison scythe to scare my enemies into freaking out and attacking erratically before the poison kills em. Its nice since the weapons ignore shields and armor to poison directly and then I can hack away at them with my main weapon.
So what exactly are hexes? SL 90 using melee and haven't even touched spells outside of a couple pyromancies. What differentiates them from the other spell types such as Sorcery?
I swear that this game gives you so many kinds of things to use that it's daunting at times.

Hexes are basically Dark Magic from DS1. Just they have some steep requirements now(both int and faith). From the spells I found so far they look pretty cool. Thinking about putting some points into faith on my sorcerer and trying them out...

So my character is a quality build, right now 40STR/30 DEX. I mainly use the Claymore but I want to level up a katana, just for fun.
I have both the Uchigatana and Blacksteel, but Im unsure what one to level. I heard the stats doesnt scale as good as DS1, so Im unsure on what would be better with my build. Any ideas?
EDIT: Woah, just tried one for the first time. They're friggin slow compared to DS1 :/

ancient dragon, getting one shot If I make a single mistake in a 10min+ fight is infuriating. Add in the stupidly long run to the boss room full of annoying mobs and it just sucks. Someones suggestion earlier to use a fire res shield doesn't help either as the flame has multiple ticks. You will run out of stamina regardless.

Is it possible to survive his fire attack? Like, does Flash sweat, orange burrs, fire resist gear help at all? I got OHKOed, with 35 VIG and a Life+2 ring (so about 1900 HP!) and I wondered if it's possible to survive it or if it hits you, you're done no matter what. If so I won't bother with attuning flash sweat I guess.
Only tried to fight him once, got instantly OHKOed by his fire breath. Then I died twice to the sentries trying to make my way back (so apparently crossing the mist no longer gives you invincibility... as I just found out XD). lol
I didn't know you could summon that NPC...? I was in human form too and never saw his sign inside the memory. Weird.
I struggled initially too, but the trick is basically to RUN. Let the fireballs fall, then run run run til you reach the boss. The fireballs won't reach you there. Once you're at the boss, he's very easy to fight in close range, all his attacks are slow and telegraphed.
Hahahaha. Goddamn I felt like a puny coward in those places. Walking head one step at the time, so certain I was that I'd plummet into an unending abyss. From knows how to do scary.
Ah, I killed some guy in bell tower and he sends me a message calling me a pussy for using a shield. Wtf? he was healing and using a shield, I didn't even heal once.
lol. Gotta love hatemail. Got my first hatemail yesterday myself.
Blood bro
covenant, this dude spams some Meat Cleaver-like greatsword. I dodge every swing, and when he's clearly out of stamina I roll behind him for a free backstab. Did that a few times (he healed once, IIRC). He then called me a no-skill lagstabber. lol. How about you pay attention to your stamina bar and stop mashing r1, idiot.

Nah mate, poison is OP in this game. I use a maxed out Manslayer and poisoning late-game mobs is incredibly useful because they have a lot of health. As for bosses, I don't think I poisoned one yet, no, but try it against late-game high-HP mobs such as
the fatties or the giant basilisk in Aldia's Keep, the drakes in Dragon's Aerie, the stone knights and nimble golden warriors in the Dragon Keep, the phantoms in the Abyss, etc. Saved my ass countless time.
I really fucking love the Manslayer. <3 For bosses since poisoning rarely or does not work, I usually switch it out for a resin-buffed uchi or blacksteel, but for the rest of the time, it's great.
I'm pretty sure by now that unlike the bell covenant to get summoned or summon someone you need to be in the same location when the invasion happens. I think there are just too many requirements for this to happen more often. Like, the way of blue member has to be in the same area as the blue sentinel, both have to have the ring on AND a red has to invade at that time.
With hardly anyone invading(seems like it to me at least) as a blood bro anyway those conditions are hardly ever met I guess.
