Did we really make it though?

Oscars have a history of awarding Black Actors who play roles that demean character. (I'm proud of Lupita's win btw, she really deserved it with her performance but just saying)

Jay and Elec talk about making the come up compared to Slave Era, Yeah that's true but IMO the people haven't made that real come up yet....

Just because we're on TV and cop a couple fat checks don't really mean alot when compared to the actual power players of society.... We're just the entertainers... So I have to disagree with Jay and Elec...

There is alot more work to be done.

Why should he retire? Why in the world of rap does someone have to retire? Oh cause he is in his 40s? I completely get that his music today is not what it was when he started out, but that's true for most artists across genres. He isn't going to make another Reasonable Doubt but he still drops hot verses here and there. Good songs here and there. Has a great ear for production. All the new rappers idolize and look up to him. Getting a Jay Z collabo is still a status symbol and while he isn't liked on the internet with hipster rap fans, he is still pretty relevant in the real world. He still makes businesses work and brings in a lot of revenue for others. But oh yeah this is the man we should hate and force into retirement.

Jay Z hate is pretty stupid. Dude is a legend. One of the best to ever pick up the mic. You can say that without having to bring Nas related nonsense up. Just cause his music isn't great now doesn't erase the classics (albums and songs) he has put out. If you don't like his new music don't check for it. Its just music he isn't forcing you to listen to it.

And then there is the group of people who claim he shouldn't talk about this or that. What should he be rapping about again? Is there a guidebook for rappers who are super successful, relevant, and in their 40s about what they should write about?

As for the diss, I love it! Pretty indifferent towards Drake but he is the last one who should be talking about being corny. I get that he loves to do the emotional love songs with singing here and there and that's cool but then don't tell Jay or anyone that rapping about art is corny.

Don't get how its petty for Jay to do this. This is a perfect response in the purest forms of rap. It isn't over the top of offensive. Kanye stans calling this petty is the biggest joke in the world when they go out of their way to defend every little hissy fit temper tantrum he throws at media personalities and the world at large for holding him back.

You can't be serious.... just... wow.

The hate on Jay Z here is beyond comprehension. Sure he fell off, his last album was really whack, BP3 was average to bad, KC was atrocious but we did get AG after that, a really good album. Some people here talk about him like he was always whack or overrated. Makes me wonder how old they are or if they ever listened to RD, BP1 or BA (Which other rapper can brag about having 3 fucking classics among their catalog?).

Of course he is not that thirsty anymore, he has so many things to take care of right now that he only raps for the sake of rapping. Still, even with his lazines he still maintains his name relevant, keeps charting high, going platinum... this seems to make a lot of you mad. As it was already said, he still spits fire when he wants to (as of Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe remix, Devil is a Lie and now We Made It).

Jay Z is regarded as one of the GOAT by almost every single rapper in the industry, from OGs to new cats. He is in every single rapper top 5, he is 40+ year old and still has the balls to call out the biggest mainstream rapper in the game right now (someone who idolizes him by the way, as well as his mentor).

The thing is, his last projects were bad, I agree with that. He is being lazy on the majority of his verses, but to say that he is straight up BAD, HORRIBLE and TRASH is ridiculous. To say something like that pretty much sums up that you either only listened to his recent songs or don't like rap at all.

This is what doesn't make sense to me. You have Run The Jewels as your avatar (which was personally one of my favorite albums last year) and you're defending fucking Drake, who is mainly a pop artist with hip hop elements and he is changing the rap game for the worst and yet, you diss Jay-Z like he never did anything?!? Holy fuck, I liked Drake's last album, but the dude is a pussy and he'll just bitch and moan about the diss and he'll gain support because of it. Drake is a damn cancer to the rap industry and it's funny to see that you're defending him like he is your damn girlfriend

To sum it up: Jay-Z has done a lot for the industry and yes, his last albums have not been good, but the dude has worked hard and he can do whatever the fuck he wants and Drake shouldn't be saying shit about him

Why are you guys being trolled by some Idaho Potato, Wonder Bread, local produce section looking poster? Come on. This dude would stan the Backstreet Boys if they added 808s to their sound.

You come across as some sad little man, the hate in your posts directed at me are laughable

According to you, if one has a differing opinion on MUSIC, something as subjective as it gets, they're a troll, you're corny, keep it moving before addressing me in the future

In all fairness, Jay can never really say anything about dudes being pop and not keeping it hip hop. Jay has way too many pop and rock crossovers to ever say something like that. I dont think there's anything wrong with what Drake said factually, but this is the rap game you say anything about peoples product and they won't fuck with you. Regarding any trading of words there's no way Drake comes out well because Jay birthed him. Drake is a stan. He called him uncle Hovy in that doc, brought him and his wife drinks like a servant, said he'd cry a pool of tears when Hov died on record. Aint shit happening. I expect a star struck apology or at WORST some passive aggressive why dont you love me daddy bars. This pic says it all.

This is clearly not the Def Jam dynasty Jay anymore who would be above other major artists insulting him, let alone just stating their preferences and getting mad about it.

Yes, because Def Jam Jay-Z never threw shots @ any small time artists who dissed him.

Hello it's Hova; that's right young'un the wait is over
The new millennium is upon us, the album is here
Before we get into the shit, let's get a few things clear
Rappers with no relation:
There's "Seven Degrees of Separation" and I'm Kevin Bacon
This is the murderer's version
Jigga the shit, even when he rhyme in third person
Hova the God, I should be rapping with a turban
Haters can't disturb him, waiters can't serve him
Mike Jordan of rap - outside J working
Now watch how quickly I drop 50

I don't like playing, niggas can't stick me
Niggas can not jam me, niggas can't get me
Slimmy at the Rucka wanna leave and spend with me
I consistently take em out the park like Ken Griffey
Do you believe? It's Hova the God

Hova Song > His last two albums. God damn his flow fell the fuck off. Even after Blueprint when his aura of invincibility was gone thanks to Nas (and he starting to tell us why he should be top 10 instead of showing) at least he still had his flow.

How many beefs has Jay been in? I only know about the Nas destruction.
Over the years hes gone at people and had people go at him on record or interviews. rough list looks like this;

LL Cool J
DMX
2pac
Nas
50 Cent
Prodigy
Cam'ron
Jim Jones
Jaz-O
Beanie Sigel
The Game
Lil Wayne

Probably more out there.

Don't even need to go that subtle. It's Hot (Some Like It Hot) was a small response to 50's How To Rob. Shit when Jay first performed it at Hot 97 Summer Jam everyone was like Oh shit! 50 quickly backed off.

Yo show closer, J-to-the-A-Y-Hovah
Place shutter down, who the fuck'll fuck around?
Game spitter, Range sitter, Bentley driver nigga
Keep a full clip I have to empty out on niggas
Ho bagger, no slacker, get this shit jumping
Like eight blacks, four crackers, get your ass jumped
Cris sipper, six dipper, wrist glitter nigga
Gat buster, ass toucher.. clit licker
Go against Jigga your ass is dense
I'm about a dollar, what the fuck is 50 Cents?

Hot shit, kick a nigga, turn these mics out
My jewelry so bright you can turn these lights out
Hovah's like Noah keep two in the truck
I'm like U-Haul; every bitch moving I fuck
You move slut, I gotta put two in your butt
I'm everything: the when's, why's, who's, and what
Nigga what?

I think its a direct reference to Drake's line on "3am in Toronto" where he says he shoots backwards and still won't hit any rappers.

Quite relevant for someone like Jay who claims he lost 92 bricks of cocaine and had to fall back, one of the most outlandish lies ever told in hip hop

What's absurd about that? Last month a truck driver was arrested with 400 bricks of cocaine in Campo Grande (Brazil). 92 bricks would fit in a simple van, he could have seen that he would get fucked up and had to ''get rid'' of it. Not defending him, since I pretty much don't trust his statement, but there were/are a lot of cases of one/two carriers getting caught with a lot of kilos of drugs.

What does a carrier getting caught by the cops have to do with Jay "losing" 92 bricks on his own? In one example you go to prison for years. In the other you get murked on the spot. It's a ridiculous line, period.

The absurdity in the line is he staying alive after losing 92 kilos of coke. Not the quantity itself or the act of losing it (pretty sure he said he lost it in the sense of having to get rid of it to not get caught by cops or whatever). Anyway, it sure is a bullshit line.

Definitely. Even losing two bricks will get you killed. Hell I got beat up just for losing a dime bag, back when I sold drugs.

A quick Google tells me a kilo is worth between $24K and $40K. So losing between $2.2M and $3.7M would definitely get you in big trouble. Ridiculous line.

What is $3m to a motherfucker like him, could you please remind him? Yeah, that's ridiculous lol.

Drake said in some interview a couple weeks back that he wasnt a fan of Jay's raps about art.

Jay-Z rapping about art is pretty pathetic though. No needs to try and argue about that. Jay-Z should take the L he a rich dude that wore Fubu now wants to cross over and be fancy.

I don't think rapping about art is any cornier than rapping about anything else.

Its all in the delivery. If Jay Z was rapping about art with the same flow, energy, and wit as he used to rap during his prime no one would care.

Besides like I asked earlier what exactly should he be rapping about? What is the age appropriate subject for him? He can't go back to drugs or selling drugs because then people bitch "oh how you gonna rap about that when you are worth close to a billion?"

Of course, if he was still releasing decent albums and not ruining other people's songs with his lazy ass verses, I'd be fine with him talking about the MOMA and Andy Warhol. The same dudes that criticize Drake for being a fake thug are buying up all these Jigga lines like dude ain't getting dragged to Grizzly Bear shows by his sister in law. He more jewish than Drizzy.

This wasn't a hard jab at Drake. You guys get WAY to caught up in these bars. Hardly any of that is hardcore. Jay had no choice but to make a comment sooner or later and he did and it wasn't much.

You call a rapper "Mrs.", it's a hard jab. Harder than Kendrick's.

Jay can rap about whatever he wants basically, but...

How are you gonna hire the guy to rap on two of your albums and then diss his content? Makes Drake look like a fuck boy.
