Absolutely. But its cases like these where Id rather just not think about it

When was this said?
Oh okay, thought you meant something else sorry. In one of the tapes. He talks about how he became the way he was. His family were researchers, nuke goes off, fire melts his skin.
I wanted to join in on the skull face theory. What's the leading theory right now, new character or someone from mgs3? He hates zero and big boss, wants them both dead so that seems to me like its definitely an MGS3 connection. He describes a nuke going off on a research facility, that sounds to me like the nuke volgin shoots out in MGS3.
Now Kojima usually likes to make sure characters tie together no matter what which makes me believe he wouldn't create this mystery just so skull face is someone brand new.
The sokolov stuff seems too crazy, no way that is him.
Yeah that shit is reaching. Sigint being the DARPA chief not so much since he was said to go and be the founder of ARPA net. But figuring the entire cast are the patriots prior to finishing mgs3? I dont even want to know why anyone would think its obvious. It isn't, quite frankly its dumb, but thats metal gear.So somehow when playing MGS3 you all came to the conclusion that your goofy save person Paramedic would become a founding member of the dark and powerful Illuminati-esque organization from Sons of Liberty and that Sigint would become the Darpa Chief because "hey two black guys who work for the same organization must be the same character"
but somehow I'm stretching things with the blonde blue-eyed nurse that distinctly looks to be around her 40s.
Ok.
Sigint was foreshadowed to be the DARPA chief since they mention that he joins ARPA in the credits, and since you know, they're both black.
Para-Medic's heel turn was foreshadowed in her optional calls with Snake about cloning, gene therapy, and soldier genes.
Zero used the password: "Who are the Patriots? And La Li Lu Le Lo" in MGS3. And he was all but confirmed to be the founder in PO.
On the other hand, thinking that Eva is a random nurse that doesn't look anything like her, nor does she have the same hair color that she maintained for 50 years is some dumb fucking shit.

I just said that mgs3 ending alluded to that first point. The idea that it was obvious during mgs3 that they'd become the patriots is what I don't believe.I'm pretty sure Big Mama confirms in MGS4 that Sigint indeed did become the DARPA chief and Paramedic also went on to be a founding member of the patriots

It's possible that she fled on her own along with the doctor? Big Boss is in no shape to rescue anyone at that point.
While I could see the point this makes a lot of assumptions about zeros character. We knew next to nothing about him as he wasn't a thoroughly developed character. Thinking that he'd be all broken up and kill himself is such a giant leap.It wasn't obvious, in that it wasn't told.
But does Zero just twiddle his thumbs after hearing that he was manipulated to command his best soldier to kill his own mentor, over money and other bullshit?
Either he kills himself after MGS3, or does something to address the corrupt US Government.
Hijacking part of the Legacy, using Ocelot to do so (parts of Portable Ops that I'm sure were included to contextualize the MGS4 Patriots reveal), to found an organization that'll replace the government. A stretch, sure, but if someone was going to do it it'd be an imbedded high ranking military tactician with a motive.
By MGS1 the Patriots is AI driven. It decides to fund Philanthropy with parts of the Philosopher's Legacy. It becomes autonomous and starts the war economy. Zero isn't behind that batshit craziness, he's behind the original idea. So he ends as a pained man euthanized by Big Boss, as both men realize they done more bad than good.
Someone mentioned "proxy" up there. Hearing it in one of the tapes in GZ, I was reminded how much Kojima made me hate the word for how overused it is in this series.
I'd be surprised if kojima planned the story about the patriots since 3 because its really contrived. It would be a testament to his and or murata being poor writers.
Exactly, which is why knowing since before finishing mgs3 ends that your support staff goes on to become the patriots is kinda ridiculous. I'm just incredulous.Kojima makes up shit as he goes along. We all know this.
Oh lawdUNILATERAL
Wouldn't he be a good bit older/bigger?
It's plausible that Sigint and Paramedic were intended to be who they are in MGS1, but not founding members of The Patriots. That part was made up on the spot for MGS4. Zero and Ocelot however got extra foreshadowing indicating they'd consolidate The Philosophers into The Patriots in Portable Ops.So somehow when playing MGS3 you all came to the conclusion that your goofy save person Paramedic would become a founding member of the dark and powerful Illuminati-esque organization from Sons of Liberty and that Sigint would become the Darpa Chief because "hey two black guys who work for the same organization must be the same character"
I originally subscribed to this thought but FOX was basically created for the Virtuous Mission, no? Then both Zero and Snake leave after the events of Snake Eater. Not a lot of room for anything important to happen with Skull Face. There's also the thematic notions Kojima's been hinting at. That the conflicts depicted in MGSV are based on intolerance and perceived grievances as opposed to actual ones.I'm expecting something like Skyfall, also. Perhaps earlier in Snake's FOX career? A comrade abandoned, with Zero's consent? It'd explain Skull Face wanting Zero dead.
Zero's just paranoid. SIGINT, Paramedic, Ocelot, and EVA probably give out orders to second-level agents. But why dies Skull Face get orders, "by proxy", from Zero? Does Zero know who Skull Face is, and that he's alive? Are the orders delivered by AI, and just happened to come to Skull Face?
While I could see the point this makes a lot of assumptions about zeros character. We knew next to nothing about him as he wasn't a thoroughly developed character. Thinking that he'd be all broken up and kill himself is such a giant leap.
Examples? I honestly don't recall that foreshadowing.
"Dr. Clark" used to be male, guys, don't especulate with this stuff too much![]()
That was only on the english version due to mistranslation. In the original Japanese version the gender of Dr. Clark is never stated.
Okay I am confused, I thought Big Boss helped Zero start the Patriots and go from there, later disbanding to build outer heaven. However, it looks like Zero has already setup the Patriots himself (as Cipher).
Are the Patriots established at the end of MGS5 ? with Big Boss on board, it's only thing that makes sense to me. Why does Cipher attack Mother Base ?
Hahaha! In the JP version the medic is also voiced by the Snake VA.
I completely agree. And yet we have quite a few details that hint at something odd going on (the third wounded person POV, the horn, the Sutherland-voiced "Ishmael"...).honestly, it's pretty clear that we play as Big Boss throughout the Phantom Pain - not Grey Fox or Decoy Octopus, just by a matter of simple logic. If Kojima is trying to fill in the gaps of Big Boss' story, having some other impersonator adds way more plotholes (that would have to be resolved in a future title) than it fixes.
Looks a bit young to me to be Chico, but that's a good point...Probably turns out to be Chico as he's the only character who doesn't need the use of his legs![]()

Big Boss already left the Patriots. Eva says in MGS4 that he left the patriots, created his own mercenary company and drifted around the world. Peace Walker shows him creating the mercenary company which is MSF/Motherbase. Skull Face destroys Motherbase and he's apparently working against both Zero and Big Boss.Okay I am confused, I thought Big Boss helped Zero start the Patriots and go from there, later disbanding to build outer heaven. i think people are letting the darker side of their imagination get the better of them/conforming to hearsay about the tape.
i always entertained the thought, given that the tape cuts out before any sex acts occur, that chico talked to stop himself from being forced to violate paz. it's obvious she's stripped naked however, and she does later offer chico sex for some reason (and again, we have no idea if this was even taken up)
The side ops are supposed to be recreations of actual missions that happen? They seem to involve gathering info that pertains to what happens in GZ, and noticed at the start of one that it mentions something about reenactment or recreation?
fast forward? i always took it as the recording ending then starting again. You make a good point but after Skull Face says "get on with it", the tape seems to fast-forward, implying that something must have taken place. After that, Chico breaks and talks.
no good answers yet.. everyone should stop speculating about the phantom pain and try to hammer out this one simple detail that's been around since the initial announcement and wasn't answered in our play through of ground zeroes. Is it explained why Chico has a port in his chest?

no reason for chico's audio jack = no reason to believe jack shit about TPP until we play it.
Pretty sure the bomb was in her uterus, if it was lower down she could have taken it out at one point. If chico had sex with paz shouldn't he have... felt the bomb?
Hahaha!
Erm.
No, he's not.
I mean, not even close. Seriously. What the hell, man.
It's about time Konami made another horror game based on that movie in-house.Medic and Ishmael are both voiced by Keifer.
I anticipate a lot of mindfuckery in TPP. Some Jacob's Ladder type shit.
Is there anyplace that I can hear the cassette tapes?
I know I can just go and find them but I'm too lazy to find it right now.
That's not Ôtsuka Akio. Come on, now.Yes, it is him.
