Iron Man 2 is a non movie. Its like Oceans Twelve.

I was around fifteen minutes into O12 and realised I hadn't absorbed any of it, so I started it again and the exact same thing happened. Haven't watched any of it since.

IM2 at least has a good Downey performance, a good Rockwell performance and a good Garry Shandling performance. First half is watchable but the second is diabolical.

Anything after the Monaco section really, which is odd because I don't know how Whiplash knew Tony was going to drive and he was able to get onto the circuit so quickly.

Iron Man 2 is at the bottom of my MCU list but it's greatly helped by the success of Marvel after it. It's a huge lead into The Avengers which was fantastic and the first time we see Black Widow who has come a long way since(judging by the impressions of The Winter Solder).

It also doesn't hurt that it has one of the best fight scenes in the Iron Man trilogy(Iron Man 3 end fight being the only one above it imo).

I liked the original up until they went into montage sequences. Then I just went WTF and felt disappointed at how rushed everything else from then on was. And the climax/fight scene with Red Skull was weak. The film was then saved by the fastforward into the future, seguing into "The Avengers" for me. So yeah, all in all the first was somewhat mediocre for me. I did like Evans as Cap and the various supporting characters.
Then you and I share the same complaints about the original. I always felt that the last twenty minutes should have been more. I might be more forgiving though overall. I just liked the build up in the beginning. But really, personally I feel those faults aren't there in Cap 2.

Btw, Iron Man 2 wasn't a great flick, but boy it had a villain I disliked in a good way. Fucking Justin Hammer is such a douche with his silly dance. Sam Rockwell did nail that part. And it had Scarjo.

Also the suitcase armor was pretty hype.

quickly, tell me the plot of Iron man 2 without lookin it up

you can't do it

It was Demon in a Bottle without the booze or the resolution. Also: suitcase armor.

The hate against Iron Man 2 seems insane to me. It's not a good movie, but the amount of vitriol it gets out of some people is so fucking lopsided, I don't get it.

I like Iron Man 2 a lot actually. Vanko is a weak link for sure and I don't like the synthesized element Deus ex machina, but it's hilarious throughout and while the action is limited, I absolutely love the suitcase armor, the fight in the house, and seeing Iron Man and War Machine blowing shit up together. For all the hate it gets, it is the only one that gives us decent War Machine action.

If the fight with Vanko at the end wasnt so freakin short/more impactful it would be a much better action flick.

Wonder what it was like in Favreau's original vision before so much of it apparently ended up on the cutting room floor.

Regardless, RDJ and Rockwell give amazing performances throughout and Scarlet has never looked better. It also has my favourite Son of Coul line:

"If you attempt the leave the premises I will tase you as watch Supernanny while you drool into the carpet."

Iron Man 2 should be last on everyone's list
I don't consider it a bad movie, but it's my least fav Iron Man movie. The horrible birthday scene and rushed final battle didn't help either, though it had fun moments here and there, plus Black Widow.

The drone fight at the end alone justifies IM2's existence. We actually get to see Tony, in armor, being awesome, and using cool tech. It also has War Machine actually being War Machine instead of being Iron Patriot and never doing anything cool, let alone doing something cool in suit with Iron Man. Tony in a suit that works for 2 minutes > "House party" with 50 aluminum foil suits and 1 main he spends more time charging than fighting in. IT'S THE KILLBOX TONY, OKAY.

I can't wait for scene cut from Avengers
when Cap reunites with Peggy
. I hope it's awesome and given proper screentime.

Saw it last night. It's certainly the most complete and coherent Marvel movie. Iron Man might be a bit more enjoyable but that's mostly down to RDJr's performance rather than the script/story which was good nothing more. The script here is the tightest they've had in a marvel movie.

Certainly the best action in a Marvel movie, mainly because until the last set piece everything is a pretty local melee combat or pretty kinetic shootouts. The Russo brothers and/or the fight co-ordinator also seem to 'get' how Captain America should fight and there's a really satisfying weight behind his and the Winter Soldiers hits.

They also made some good decisions in regards which characters they focused on. The main characters get plenty of time to shine. Put simply they didn't fall into the common trap of attempting to squeeze too many new characters and give them too much screen time. Agent 13 is underused but you get enough of a glimpse that she could be an important character going forward and it serves as a decent introduction to the character. Even the Winter Soldier is used relatively sparingly and is far more effective for it.

Iron Man > CA:TWS >> IM3 >> Avengers >> Thor: TDW > Thor = CA:TFA > Hulk > IM2

I may overrate IM3 and Thor:TDW on account of seeing them in Imax 3D which made their action sequences look all kinds of amazing, the attack on Starks house in IM3 especially.

Potentially ruins the movie by not tagging the important stuff but is totally cool with just posting a warning about it

Now that I think about it, I'm thinking he intentionally did this as a troll post as he barely gives his impressions about the film and basically just lists plot points.

Iron Man 2's my favourite of the bunch; I honestly have no idea why people rate it so poorly. Nothing in the entire MCU compares to the Christine doing a spread on Hammer scene, or that perfect 'shit just got real' moment in the huge fight at the end with where Tony and Rhodey wordlessly clonk their facemasks down one after the other. Scarlett's fight scene is some of the most brilliantly over-the-top choreography since The Rock fighting all those pygmies in Welcome to the Jungle. Iron Man and War Machine Daft-Punk-fighting? Tony's Dad is Roger from Mad Men? Come on. You all know it's the best.

Pretty much. It's basically a who's who of plot points. If you see this post before OverlordSteph's somehow, don't scroll up!

What a dick

I liked Howard Stark but most of the movie was noise.

I think Tony was intentionally closing the door when Pepper was trying to give him the suitcase. Nope, we gotta have those two talking/shouting over each other in 5 minute bursts. :p

they're cheap

If being cheap was the sole requirement to direct a Marvel movie, then the movies would not be as successful as they have been. The directors that they've picked May not cost as much as big-name guys but the people they've chosen are extremely talented.

See this Singer? That's how you make a movie with a lot of characters in it.

Incredible film. But did anyone think the 3D took away from the fast fight sequences? Looked dark and blurry to me. Really looking forwards to watching the 2d Blu-ray.

I watched it in 2D, so none of that affected me, but that's exactly the problem I anticipated with the 3D version. Thanks for confirming.

I had the exact same problem.

Also, I took off my 3D glasses during certain action sequences and they weren't even 3D. I could just watch them without the glasses, but then it changed to 3D again when a new part came.

The theatres in my area only show these big blockbuster flicks in 3D nowadays, so I'm kinda stuck with 3D. Shame though, because last night was one of those movies where I actually forgot I was wearing 3D glasses. So I wished I could have seen it in 2D yeah.

I can see this doing better than thor 2 due to a lack of big name compitetion until The Amazing spiderman comes out....a month later.

Saw the film again earlier, it holds up great on a repeat viewing - plus I noticed the reconstructed Avengers tower this time. Still find the lack of Hawkeye a little weird, though.

Saw it earlier today. Definitely the best Marvel movie since X-Men First Class I reckon, saying that though I wish The Winter Soldier was in it more.

BO predicitions?
I'm thinking Iron Man 1 numbers.

Iron man would be ok numbers. Thor 2 made 60 million more than Iron Man. I think word of mouth and if it can drawn in enough repeat viewings could push it past Thor 2.

Thor and Cap initially tracked basically even. So will have to see if that continues or does cap being in a fantastic movie manages to break out

I think the great word of mouth and quality of the movie will push it well, just like Iron Man 1. Probably moreso considering it gets the post Avengers bump too (one that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 clearly benefited from)
