Winter-Spring 2014 Anime |OT3| People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time

I'll finish my Baby Steps push by saying it's perfect for me because it doesn't have drama whatsoever. It has a very likable cast of characters, slowly climbing-up-the-ladder protagonist, very chill atmosphere and a cute romance story to tie it all in together. Also some of the shit the protag does reminds me of me, too relatable (like convincing people about his point of view with research and a presentation).

The two leads remind me of Winry and Ed in FMA:B, where you know they like each other but there's so much shit going on that they don't get many scenes to themselves. Which actually makes me want to watch FMA again.

The romance angle is more that they're so focused on tennis and only have few scenes to just themselves since they basically go to the club everyday. But I'd like to point out (spoilered just in case)
they do actually start going out and not too terribly far in the manga
. The romance aspect has very little drama which I appreciate, just two people who really click together.

Typical sports arc is more of a continuous sports arc where he might get good enough to beat character A after one year, but then he meets character B, C, D, E, bla bla bla who are all hurdles that could easily beat him. The manga emphasizes that once you're a good player a game could go either way and might be won by one the very last 'game' (game as in game, set, match) due to stamina being out or a human mistake. Nobody says "Damn that guy is #1 and that guy is #2, he could never beat him".

I do want to emphasize that the characters don't go through massive drama. When we were discussing the manga before with other people, somebody else called it 'very straightforward'. There's no melodrama whatsoever and it's a very lighthearted feel throughout the show, but the games themselves can get very intense.

His biggest issue is that he discovers tennis so late and his older peers (teachers, parents) don't like the idea of this guy who was at the top of the class academically putting all of that as second to tennis. But he goes through multiple views of tennis and what it means to him, how far he's willing to go for it vs it just being a hobby to exercise.

What I do need to point out is that even though it isn't a team sports anime/manga, the side characters are very well done and you genuinely come to enjoy his plethora of rivals. They aren't douches and are working just as hard as him.

I'll probably continue to watch it, but I just don't expect it to exceed any of my expectations. I mean, I can enjoy things like Ginga e Kickoff and Giant Killing, but the only sports show I really liked was Ace wo Nerae. Well, and maybe Girls und Panzer if you count that as a sports show.

I expect Haikyuu and Baby Steps to be in the tier of shows below that, where it's fine because there are no super powers or heart transplants, but it doesn't really do anything exciting.

That's fine, I can't expect everybody to like it as much as I do. Different strokes for different blokes. I'll only push it if somebody asks, but the circumstances surrounding Baby Steps are too immersive for me.

To be fair, if a show ain't equal to Friday Night Lights, then I'm already going to be checked out. lol
Ping Pong has the advantage of not being *too* anime, at least so far.

Blade & Soul Episode 2:

Yea, this is even more boring now that the good shows have finally ventured onto the scene, you do need more then big tits to make a show interesting sadly, dropped and dropped hard.

Naruto Shippuden Episode 358 – Kakashi: Shadow of the ANBU Black Ops – Coup d'État

Shishui and Danzo part offered a few seconds in which the arc felt pretty good, otherwise the rest just the typical.

Also Sasuke!

It's ok though, after watching so much Kate, Plamya and Natasha, I can stand any ridiculous over the top drama Golden Time can throw at me.

Maybe.

Definitely that will help you.
But really its not as bad as you might think.

You fuckers spent 30 pages talking about bananas when you could have talked about peaches, the superior fruit.

My actual favorite is pomegranate!

The Vision of Escaflowne 1-14

Oh come on !
How long is that dick Dilandau going to get away with it.
Nothing quite like choral music to make a fight epic.

The show was decent throughout but really picked up these past few episodes. Thankfully the writers seem to have abandoned the Hitomi x Gourry clone love affair, at least for now. The cat lady stopped being annoying too.

Though all my FMA predictions came to naught, I'd venture to say that
Allen's mysterious father is the Zaibach's emperor. Growing up without a father must run in the family.

CLASSIC. Just absolutely classic show.

Fuck this. I see the error in my ways. I used to foolishly think Elfen lied was good. I mean if you strip everything away and pay attention to the barebones plot it sounds like a nice tale. However how it tells this tale, through excessive nudity for no reason (some characters being very young), excessive gore and the horrible mixture of the two is repulsive. Its such an occurrence and used so candidly its almost as if the show is pandering to the sick freaks who like stuff like that. The worse thing is, the story is somewhat intriguing and people will get reeled in. The most emotional scenes in the anime are also the ones coupled with gore and nudity. Whats more infuriating is that the MC is stupid as fuck and how some characters, specifically girls act like fucking babies.

Much hasn't changed with this new show. The first episode has some eerie parallels. After seeing some of "material" in the manga, this show will no doubt be as insultingly despicable.

I just want to say, fuck the guy who made this, his poor writing and the twisted thoughts he had when conjuring up such filth.

Wait, are you calling people who like good old fashioned ultraviolence and full frontal nudity sick freaks?

Also, the core problem with Elfen Lied is that once you stripped away the blood it was pretty much Love Hina.

As much as I hate Elfen Lied, it wasn't that bad.

The rad storyboarding and playful character writing gave this such an unshakably cool vibe. Even when animations are recycled, the show makes them work with good editing and pacing. I continue to love Nobutake Ito's character designs as well. Just a joy to watch.

Yeah saw that last night. Soooo bad. That thread's premise is so loaded it could practically be an OT thread about Christianity. That's how loaded that topic is.

Someone's watching Escaflowne!? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS

I would proudly spend Dio bucks.

What topic are we talking about here?

Is the Order a Rabbit? 1

This was actually pretty funny, so it has more than just the cuteness aspect. Fans of Kiniro Moasic should definitely check this out.

SOLD SOLD SOLD

I'm sure this is as good of a place to go to for recommendations if any.

I recently finished Steins;Gate, and man. That would go down as my GOAT if FMA:B didn't exist. I really liked how the plot kept me hooked and made me binge through it all. The amount of sci fi was perfect, and the romance was there but not overdone.

I'm looking for something new, similar. Any ideas?

Hmmm. Baccano maybe? Darker Than Black is a good suggestion too.
If you want another show with a semicolon in it Robotics;Notes is pretty cute too

Oh yeah. I was a fan of Sword Art Online, despite the popular opinion I've seen on here.

Eden of the East
DBZ
Fairy Tail
Death Note
the original FMA
Cowboy Bebop

Those are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head that I enjoyed.

Maybe Black Lagoon too.

Arjuna makes Ferngully look subtle, and its total inability to maintain a scientific basis for its claims severely undercuts its message despite touching on many actual and important issues.

m not sure which of these two beats you over the head with an environmental message more but I enjoyed both. Apparently I like being beaten in the head with enviro messages.

There's really no such thing as "shounen ping pong" simply because that would be totally laughable to anyone who actually knows anything about the sport. China has the art of table tennis down to a science. Their clone army is trained from young to be totally mindless soldiers of destruction at every school in the nation, and only the best of the best make it into the national team. Those who fail to get in are still so good that they get poached by other countries around the world and offered citizenship just to play for them. Anyone who is not a China born trained clone soldier is second rate, even talented local players in countries which have adopted China players. That's the reality of Ping Pong.

All this I learned from Forrest gump.

wow, we're not worthy.

Lots of cool action scenes of all kind and more fitted in one episode, felt a lot longer than usual.

Well, I guess I'll ask if anything really becomes complicated in terms of the characterization?
I assume the romance angle will be like everything else, where they can't hook up because of manga-itis, but beyond the typical sports arc (where they inevitably lose before they can win), what else does he go through?

Oh, so they made a card game anime but with a female protagonist. It's like if the HapCha characters grew up!

Sounds great to me!

Visited the shrine seen in The Eccentric Family yesterday:

As non-tourist-y you can get. Not even any signs in English there.

I could spend several days just going to shrines and looking at the architecture. The way they build them on tiers for earthquake protection and stability, and in such a different way from anything else.

I'm not sure whether this will convert any rabid CG haters or not. It'll probably make you think "I wish this was in 2D because then it would be beautiful". Personally I think it's (perhaps surprisingly) well made - beautifully lit and storyboarded (generally - there's a couple of scenes in some very bland white spaces!), interesting character animation, and well scored. Of course, without being used to it, CG with limited frames (i.e. looks like anime) is always going to be a bit off-putting, but I think it pretty much works here.

Storywise there's a lot of setup to reach a decent climax; I was surprised that even in a show like this they have growling stomachs and comedy faces, particularly given that this is sandwiched between people breaking their fingers...

I'll be interested to see where this goes visually at least - the world design is excellent and the starkness of the visuals really suits the brutality of the action sequences. Manga readers - is the plot halfway decent?

There's like shrines and temples on every second main street here in Kyoto. Can't go far without bumping into one :p

I know I said I dropped this but the promise of Okada writing + creepy scenario (plz be one) brought me back. Well that and the potential twincest but that's a minor point.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I just straight paused episode 21 of accel world cause some straight up tekken tag tournament was on the screen right now, the real shit. This is so surreal.

So when was it that they might announce a new season of Magical Index 3? I mean someone here mentioned the third Railgun season being a rumor, so is an announcement planned soon for something in that property?

Accel World is on a whole better tier than SAO. Like the author just suddenly realized how to make a story not suck.
