Uncharted 2 to be set in Manmad, India?

Why would "manmad" have a dot like "man.mad?" It makes more sense for it to be "mad man."

It is too much of a coincidence that manmad looks the way it does though.

Are you not seeing the dot between man and mad!?

It's part of a cryptic clue. The dot could just be there to throw you off.

Can someone please take a photo of it so we can try to decipher the other two lines.

I'd love to see Uncharted 2 set at Caminito del Rey (The path of the King) near Álora in Málaga, Spain.

Ever since I saw THIS video, I've been fascinated by this area.

Will there be bald space marines and long elevator rides?

Cornwall, with smugglers and snow and caves and cliffs and fishing boats. This Indian thing makes me think of the opening of the second Bourne film - which is awesome - but Cornwall or similar would be killer.

Yes, this will do a lot to address the troubling racial politics of the first game... Oh, wait, that's right, it won't at all. I loved the first game but man... bad choice if true.

Edit: Okay, that was a bit unfair since we haven't even seen/heard anything about the game. All I'm saying is that I'm wary of the choice of the 'exotic', 'mystical' locale (if, in fact, it turns out to be true). But yes, I still think the first game (which I own) had problems with race.
Don't you think they almost went out of their way to provide light-skinned enemies that you shoot at for the 2nd half of the game (those ex-military mercs). Or is just that them being Spaniards, even though caucasian, is somehow problematic? We know they are Spaniards because they speak with an accent. So what about MGS2 and MGS3 games then? Tons and tons of Russian soldiers with funny accents to dispose off, and yet no one moved a finger to complain about those. What makes Russians different than Spaniards in this context?

If its just in India that would be cool. I loved Unchartered and crave a sequel, so anywhere is fine for me; but I'd like to see Nate globe hop instead of one place. Caverns and Cliffs in Australia, Under water Caves off the gulf of Mexico, Ruins in Thailand, heck even hopping from building to building in New York.

i think an uncharted game would fit really well if it was in a city. it seems the uncharted franchise is really all about an actionmovie-esque experience and making a fastpaced game that takes place in a city would be cool. there could be treasure too cuz even that movie national treasure took place in cities.

Bald Space marines and 10 in thick armor here I come!

Seriously where ever they go next with Uncharted aside from Space will fucking rock.

Going from a lush tropical location to India? Count me out

ehhh???? Do you know anything about India...?

Its a country with incredible variety, culturally and environmentally. There is a huge amount of lush jungle in the game, as well as incredible mountains, ruins etc...

Its not as if they can't make shit up as well, the first games location was entirely fictional

Uncharted:
Nathan Drake is Missing

Play as Elena and travel around the world's famous geographical locations to find hints to where Nate may have taken. Elena will face ferocious mushrooms and she will use pipes to travel to each location.

For some reason, this sounds more believable than the space marines version.

Might just mean that it was inspiration for the first game, not that the second will have anything to do with Manmad.

I would like to see Drake in middle east. But India is okay too.

I don't like the desert though. Too wide-open. I guess they still have to stick to things like ancient ruins and environments conducive to platforming and puzzle-solving, as well as provide lots of cover for gunplay.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
whut? middle east = desert?!?!

Anyways, given A. Creed's recent foray into that territory (and MGS at least partially) , it might not be a great idea to set the game there.

How about somewhere completely different for a change or at least somewhere we've not seen for a bit?

Iceland?
The Netherlands (lack of things to scale i guess!)
Countryside france!
Wales!
Phillippines
or... hell... tip the hat to the games baudy line and have you follow Sully out to Bangkok and then into Malaysia or something.

To the OddOne, why do you think it would feel weird?

The gunplay, would it not be a gigantic suck fest? Uncharted gunplay was pretty slow, the aiming setup was also a big no-no. But we are talking about Naughty Dog here so lets hope they make the best of it.

Against having the game set in that persons native land? I'm guessing you mean the Middle East?

Hell no, India is a beautiful country that deserves more notoriety and I'd never have a problem with them setting the game there... I just hope for N'gai's sake that they get some Indian dudes to work on the game...

One of the best Naughty Dog programmers is Indian. Check their website.

India would be perfect... and it's relatively untapped in terms of gaming... I can totally see indian temples looking amazing in the engine.

I feel that Uncharted can be free to borrow as much from Bond/Bourne as they did from Indiana Jones in the first game. But having Drake in a populated city would require quite a different dynamic, how can he climb around or shoot without other people reacting to him? Setting in a well known city would limit somewhat the level design inevitably. Films like National Treasure always seemed way too farfetched for me and it will always seem to require some secret underground location where the game actually takes place.

Could it be "manmade" instead? As in made by Man. Or even... The Man. And who would The Man be??? That's the question.

Anyway...

...However, this reminds me, almost completely off-topically, that it isn't untapped in terms of science fiction, and knowing that there are quite a few sf lovers in here, and it's the weekend, I hereby recommend one of the most awesome sf books of the last few years... hell, of the last decade, set in a relatively near future India, called River of Gods, by Ian McDonald. Go read, while your consoles install something or whatever. Now.

Freaking fantastic call Naughty Dog.

Uncharted has a shit load of potential saleswise, it's just that it needs an amazing advertising campaign behind it.
It did, and Assassin's Creed's crapped all over it.

I don't know much about Indian ancient history... I may just read up on it before I play once this is confirmed. Just so that I don't get lost between the truth and fiction in the game.

That would be the beauty of it. Obviously you would try not to have too much sequences in Unchartered 2 in a city, such as New York, only where the storyline applies, but Nate being shot at by a powerful, controlling and wealthy millionaires henchmen in a populated city would be nice and frantic. By standers running around, screaming. Nate jumping through peoples apartment windows, fire escapes, daring ledge runs. Obviously a " New York " sequence would have to be mostly action gelled with platforming as Nate tries to escape.

Has anyone watched the movie B13? Basically what you would see jumpers doing around the city. That sort of thing with crazy running up stairs in apartments, shooting/fighting, run again, building trapezing, jumping, falls that would break a normal mans foot, hanging for overheads, through windows, or basically any mezzanine, and end it off with Nate making some awesome unholy cinematic jump off the highest building possible.

Then after that is finished, Nate can return to the remote areas. I don't fancy Egypt however, I could only see Nate in some buried Pyramid, too cliche for me.

OMG OMG OMG

I fucking LOVE UNCHARTED!!!!!

/kittonwy

Seriously, I love Uncharted! Can´t wait to see the sequel!

Anyway I guess that means nothing on Uncharted 2, it´s only a hint to where they got inspiration for the first Uncharted. Looking at those pictures it gets obvious, there´s some areas in Uncharted that are EXACTLY like those pictures.

They need to have you fight against more fun enemies.

It has little appeal yet graphically its nice.

Anyway, this would be very Indiana Jones 2 if it was in India, that would be cool:D

Well how about a brawl in an apartment/restaurant/alley where there's no public attention?

A car chase would also work in a city setting or one could be cheesy with class and set the chase in Venice.

Perhaps actionless exploration in a museum/old church/abandoned toilet where one has to get hold of an object without attracting attention (Indy 3 library).

A night breaking would also work.

I think Uncharted could gain a lot from changes not only in pacing but also setting (it sure helps Bond and Indy).

BTW I'd love if they ripped the first chase Casino Royale.
