Either mega evolutions or they just stylized them for the cover. I don't think they'd change their normal designs.

They still have a long way to go. It's already May and 3DS dropped around 50% YoY in Japan. It also won't drive hardware as well as X and Y. Not saying they can't make it but it's really very hard to imagine.
