Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

Hey! ...Gen IV music was awesome.
Didn't say that. I just dislike the brass samples introduced in Diamond/Pearl because they're neither texturally rich nor piercing enough to grab my attention. As for DPPt's music, it's fucking amazing stuff. Sato was showing off some of her best work then, and Ichinose got to bring out the piano more often than before.

On the "is it a remake or a sequel" question, this language:

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.

...instantly reminded me of how they played up the Distortion World in Platinum. 99% sure these are remakes but with a completely new area to explore (like the Distortion World and Route 47/48.)

Kind of hoping they go the SS/HG route with this game, seeing as those games were my all time favourite pokemon games of all time. In short I want my pokemon to follow me again :$

Also I don't know how I'll feel if it does the whole "3D" aspect like X and Y. Maybe returning to the original bird's eye view wouldn't be a bad thing for the remakes.

Pokemon games in the same generation have never happened at different times though!

Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby

Sapphire - Kyogre
Ruby - Groudon
Alpha - Arceus
Omega - Giratina

Hoenn AND Sinnoh confirmed!
maybe the second region is Sinnoh after you beat the game ?

Too bad if the regions were confirmed canonically in the same area as their real world equivalent, it would be impossible to travel from Hoenn to Sinnoh without passing Johto and Kanto, unless there's a plane that flies you to Sinnoh.

Idea: Bring back the Sevii Islands. Geographically, they're not super far off from Hoenn. But more importantly, they're already sectioned off, so no need to think of a way to get there, and they're smaller than a whole region, so they can be in and still be fairly fleshed out. I kinda miss the Sevii Islands. Neat area. Kinda sad it wasn't in HGSS.

That's what I thought as well. I really can't wait until we get more info. I swear Pokemon hype is almost as fun as the games themselves.

Ah, alright. I really like the drums in some of the DPPt tracks, btw. Like in Arceus' battle theme, for example.

No, thanks.

I'm not saying it is the Distortion World, but it'll probably be something like it. Some kind of new area they can hype up.
No, I mean like timeline-wise. RBY and RSE happen at the same time, GSC and DPPt happen at the same time, XY take place years and years after RSE.

One of my favourites in that would be Lake. It would be amazing to hear that with improved samples.

It said no to both. Damnit. That would be pretty responsible...

It said yes to Ruby and no to Sapphire.
Destiny.

Time to test my luck.

"Should I buy Pokemon Alpha Sapphire?"

Without a doubt.

"Should I buy Pokemon Omega Ruby?"

Reply hazy, try again.

"Should I buy Pokemon Omega Ruby?"

Ask again later.

"Should I buy Pokemon Omega Ruby?"

You may rely on it.

The magic ball has spoken! All hail the magic ball.

Zoomed out bird's eye view would be neccessary for the Mega Ocean. Azure Bay in X and Y was one of the worst areas in a Pokemon game, largely because of the fucking moronic, closely zoomed in camera positioning.

HeartGold and SoulSilver came out 5 years ago while Fire Read/Leaf Green were 5 year before them.

So we have 3 remakes in TEN years, mostly with major additions

Gotta think of each one as ten years from the original release. Gotta say RSE are the last remakes i will be excited for. Diamond and pearl fell flat for me. I three years ill be like mehhhhhhhhhh.

Afaik it was never confirmed that FRLG and RSE happen at the same time. We also don't know when the events of XY take place, it could perfectly be at the same time as FRLG/RSE, no? If mega evolutions is what is in the way of FRLG/RSE and XY happening at the same time, they could always retcon, like they did when they introduced new types in Gen 2.

The best thing about this game is going to be the soundtrack. Finally, these tracks will no longer be ruined by the trumpets.
If you would only let those poor trumpets, trombones, and French horns into your core, maybe you'd understand the beauty of it all, that percussive fugue of shrill sound driving you to battle.

Don't worry: Ichinose's arranged most of Masuda's battle themes since Gen 5 and a revamp for Dexoys' should be a piece of cake. Newer instrumentation could help it a lot.

Re. RSE's soundtrack: the weirdest thing about it isn't the abundance of (great) brass, but the other wavetable sounds Ichinose and Aoki used for the first time. Their table of sound samples was limited because the game started development before or around the time the GBA was released. As a result, there'll be chords made from samples that sound both like flutes and organs, creating a weirdly organic yet artificial texture to the score that's less present even in FR/LG. There's a lot more maximalism, counterpoint, and keyboardist techniques used here than in most other gaming soundtracks, mainly so that young ones couldn't avoid the melodic ear worm blasting out of the weak handheld speakers. And because of his experiences in writing these games' soundtracks, Ichinose has adopted this level of complexity as a personal style, albeit one built on solid principles of composition.

Best case scenario in my eyes would be a post game area like Sevii Islands but way more fleshed out and maybe with its own set of gym leaders.

I'd rather not go to an old region since HGSS feels a bit too fresh and Kanto already has enough exposure even if you don't take XY's blatant pandering into account.

HeartGold and SoulSilver perfected Gold and Silver. Those games had so much content. The Safari Zone that made it possible to catch basically everything except a smattering of Sinnoh exclusives? The Pokeathlon which became and remains the absolute, truly best "side-quest" in Pokemon and craps on Contests from a great height? The GB Player? The Giovanni/Celebi event giving closure to a decade of fan rumors? The impeccable music which has yet to be topped in the series? The sheer amount of in-game legend events such as Lati@s? Bringing back the following Pokemon feature from Yellow but applying it to every Pokemon? And on top of all that, the Pokewalker, which made it easy to get free items and hard to obtain Pokemon?

Yeah, excuse me if I don't share that opinion at all.

Most of those are superfluous at best, and practically ignoring GSC"s problems when they did the remake. Also Contests still > Pokeathlon by virtue of being connected to Pokemon's moves still.

They haven't fixed Pokemon distribution, trainer Pokemon distribution, levels being crap, Kanto's existence still being irrelevant, the slower pace, and that horrendous HM usage. This is much more disappointing because they actually put effort to recognize shit like certain evolutions existing and planting berries (unlike FRLG), then they half-ass it.

So it's not much as perfecting it but covering it with bandages/wrapping paper in hopes that people wouldn't notice its flaws.

See, if the in-game brass sounds as good what Shinji Miyazaki can bring together, then I'll be on-board with the new music. Nailing the brass, I'd hope, should be the sound team's priority. They don't have Kageyama with them anymore, so whoever's the new sound-tech guy should just follow Nintendo's lead and record some master brass musicians' tones for used in-game. This is assuming they want to save memory instead of recording in the studio and streaming media off the cartridge. Whatever happens, I hope we actually an album release overseas, now that the soundtracks are on iTunes.

Canonically there is no reason for airplanes since Dragonite can break mach two.

But I think they are definitely going to add a new mini region like the sevii islands or something, especially since they can't add a battle frontier this time.

I wonder if they'll go back to poke blocks or have a poffin maker.

Why not make a whole new region to the north?
I don't really know the geography of the pokemon world but I don't think theres anything north

Just my opinion, but I have no idea what is so appealing about Pokemon. I tried to get into the series with Pokemon X, and I found it to be repetitive with uninspiring story. I forced myself to keep on playing thinking it will get better, but after around 10 hours, I just couldn't do it anymore.

Am I missing something?

Awesome to read about this. I feel like I miss a lot as a person who isn't very familiar with music.

Strangely, airplanes exist with the explanation that they're for transporting cargo.

Yes, a soul.

Seriously though, no game is for everyone. If you don't enjoy Pokémon, that is okay, just playing something else.

The campaign sucks. All the hardcore fans play for the end game and the battling and the breeding.

I still haven't beaten X because the campaign is long, boring, and easy.

There's a key word you missed, IF.

I'm just putting that possibility out there as regions heavily take elements out of their real world counterparts such as the Miltank Farm right before Olivine City, which parallels Kobe-shi, Japan, famous for their Kobe Wagyu Beef.

If they do have Sinnoh, great. It's just not likely at all. We might get a mini-region or set of isles south of Hoenn similar to the Ryukyu Islands in Japan.

I'm more interested to see if Game Freak fixed any of the issues such as the framerate and the 3D considering how soon it is since the release of X and Y.

There's two areas to the "North" (remember Hoenn is rotated): the mainland of Japan, and a large island, but part of that is technically Johto (the part after the whirlislands).

Bullshit. I only play the campaign and post-game stuff like Battle Frontier. Never touched competitive crap in my life.

I don't play competitively either. But that's where the legitimate meat of the game is.

Pokemon campaigns suck though. They're always against shitty trainers with 1-3 Pokemon that are hideously underleveled.

Was Ruby/Sapphire not the shittiest iteration of pokemon tho
It had problems just like every other Pokemon game. Its still in my top 3.

Boletaria?
...I had to google what that was. I didn't play Demons Souls jeez D:

The campaign sucks.
I was way into the "campaign" when I was a kid, and the kids these days seem to be way into the campaign of the modern games, too. It's a story written to be easily enjoyed by children and mass marketed with TV shows, card games, and general merchandise.

We may have mostly grown out of it, but as long as kids are still experiencing that same magic I did with Red and Blue, I'm ok with that.
