Forgive me for my lack of Pokemon knowledge but wasn't this generation Ruby & Sapphire & Platinum?
I only played Platinum.
So if I played this remake would I be getting less game play?

Gen 3 was Ruby & Sapphire, followed by Emerald on Game Boy Advance.
Gen 4 was Diamond & Pearl, followed by Platinum on DS.
Emerald and Platinum are 'Director's Cut' versions with extra features, etc. Since OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire are remakes they will likely also feature all of the added features of Emerald.

BEsides, as shown in HGSS, the remakes will be incorporating nearly all of the 3rd version changes

I don't know about the sequels, but White/Black 1 are easily the weakest francishe entry. I recommend Platinum and X/Y.

Yellow was also my first Pokemon game. Ruby was when I fell in love with the series as a kid. Still love it.

hg/ss were remakes of crystal with respective version exclusives of gold and silver how is these games not remakes of emerald in the same fashion ? which would make wallace the champ

The announcement wasn't surprising in the least but there were tons of references to every gen/region in X/Y so I'd hardly consider that as evidence.

Thanks to GameFAQs, I thought that was possible and spent precious hours of my life trying to achieve it.
I feel bad for anyone who didn't start with gen 1 tbh. I don't mean this in a "GEN 1 IS THE BEST AND THEY ALWAYS WILL BE" (they're the worst games tbh), but they were HUGE in terms of media exposure and popularity. All of the gen 3 kids never got to experience how insanely popular it was or how big the anime and movie were and everything.
I was told to find a wish tag and bring it to the white rock there.
I was then told to wait for the 100th successful launch.

I was told the 100th launch would come after me completing the pokedex. I did. No 100th launch.

Something about a bunch of star dust and star pieces to the white rock at the space rocket center for Deoxys....
Come on, the oceanic museum, hot springs, little girl talking about her brother and wedding anniversary references all in ONE game. Little references about other regions are common in Pokemon games, but that many references about one specific region is enough evidence that something was going on.
Besides that, Blaziken is the only starter with mega evolution besides the gen 1 ones and we already know that there are mega stones for Latios and Latias in the game code (will problably be released near the launch of the remakes to promote the game). Never before we got so much evidences for a new game.
Anyway, I'm super excited for this. Can't wait to explore Hoenn in 3D

Pshaw, son, get on my level. I've already got them ready to trade over from X. All those Pokemon Bank delays gave me more than enough time to get all the unavailable Pokes ready to go in my copy of Black 2, including genuine, accept-no-substitutes, authentic R/S Groudon and Kyogre.

I just got a Lumia 925, upgraded it to 8.1, Introduced myself to flipping Cortana who introduced herself to me, camera is amazing(best I've ever used), just watched desolation of smaug and I loved it, awesome humble bundle IMO, another system update just dropped for the X1 (second this week), Valiant Hearts announced, Battlefront announced for E3, Sunset Overdrive (Dat Edge cover!) tease arrived with Fizzie and a huge social media campaign, my wife has been happy with me, my kid is officially potty trained and now this.
Is this real?
If any more bombs are dropped I might just check myself into a mental health facility.

These have to be sequels. The cover art depictions are mega evolutions. They have to be. Think about it. The regular way they look is already in x and y correct? Why go through the trouble of making them look different and making a new model when they already made them. The answer is that these are mega evolutions. Megas aren't in hoenn. This has to take place in the future. Near xy timeline. Probably after xy. Mega evolutions being in the original story is lazy writing. They would have to timeskip after you beat elite 4 to have it make sense in original story. I bet my avatar that these are sequels and not remakes.

Luckily, I've been importing both Feebas and Milotic up through the games since Sapphire.
I know it's the anime, but Pokemon The Origin retroactively added Mega evolutions to the time of FRLG. Mega Evolutions being added retroactively doesn't really bug me, since they're a game feature. Hope they wait till the post game for them to be available, though, since they broke X and Y by having you be one of the only trainers who could use them.

Yea but that was swag master red. If anyone from a different region would discover mega without knowing about it beforehand it would be him.
Plus the games are supposed to be the main canon. The anime was just a fun what if ending.

The connection linking RSE and FRLG is flimsy enough for a retcon to happen, imo.

Or they can just add Mega Evolutions and call it a day. It doesn't have to make sense to the original's story.
Also, if those are the Mega Evos on the cover, then they got lazy.

The alternate explanation is that they're form changes, which don't have to be in sequels (Pokemon Platinum). This makes sense when you consider that the only unknown Mega in XY is Lati@s, the mega stone for which could easily be given out as a tie-in for the remakes. It was also never confirmed that FRLG and RSE happened at the same time.
Making new mega evos would mean that the data for those mega evos would have to be patched into XY.
I think they're sequels, but it's not a certainty.
They're significantly different from the originals. Considering we have form changes like Shaymin and Megas like Kangaskhan, I wouldn't say that you can judge if it's a mega or a form based on how different it looks.

Good. RSE's doesn't leave any loose ends like BW did so a sequel wouldn't really be necessary.

How does them being remakes mean no new megas?
New evolutions were added in HGSS to the Johto Dex.
They can retroactively add stuff, you know. And they probably will. Hell, Kyogre and Groudon are definitely in new forms, probably Megas. But hopefully this shit will be kept out till the post game, or they'll change how Megas are so that normal trainers have them, and not only 2 or 3 other trainers the entire game have Megas.
