Well the Griffins are sucking now and the playoffs are still going on... They just need to end so we can start this offseason and watch more Leaf meltdowns during free agency.

I could see Phaneuf fitting in nicely in Edmonton. It doesn't bode well for Carlyle though. Phaneuf is one of the few (maybe only at this point) who could play Carlyle's style well. We won't be able to out-muscle opposition in our zone then...
Exactly. And he's misused by our atrocious coaching staff.
We are in a position right now where Phanny looks worse than he is, so any trade involving him will involve the Leafs getting fleeced. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if his performance improves dramatically after being traded (well that's what happens with nearly every player whom the Leafs let go of, so not exactly a risky guess there).

I like Phaneuf, and I think the team will be worse off without him. But if it means being able to keep Gardiner, and get a defenceman who isn't dreadful (ie, Gleason), it's the right move.
Man, Carlyle. The moment things get ugly for the Leafs, and we all know it will, he's going to be crucified, and he could take Nonis down with him.
