@VIZMedia: #sailormoon deets: This Sailor Moon release was created from the lastest Japanese Blu-ray master.
I thought there wasn't a bluray release in Japan
No. There a lot of comedy that got botched in the English dub, like Usagi chewing out Mamoru on the animal bus.The English dub was fun and silly and was easy to watch.
The Japanese one takes itself way too seriously...
And no. Original score is nice and brassy....and the music is horrid.
I thought it didn't look very good either, but I'm hoping it's just a bad image.Bluray looks like a crappy upscale. ._.
‏@VIZMedia: CORRECTION #sailormoon deets: Sorry >_< we got too excited!! This release is from the Japanese REMASTER #manyapologies
They made a mistake
ACTUALLY...Looks pretty crispy to me. The Japanese DVDs must have had some weird filters added to them :|

Here's a screenshot I took from the remastered R2 DVD version of ep 1:

My first instinct is that they actually took that screenshot from the awful SMC encode of the R2 DVDs which oversaturated all colors (seriously, is their encoder colorblind?):

But Viz's picture doesn't squash all detail in the background!

That might be the case for S1, but in R it gets even worse and your eyes bleed watching.I thought they looked familiar... maybe their encoder has a weirdly calibrated monitor >_>
5 pages in, and no mention of the GOAT Sailor Scout?

For shame, GAF.
Grainy. What does a good HD master of early to mid 90s anime look like? D:
Some compression but you get the idea.

Will the new dub still call them Sailor Scouts? Or will they now be Sailor Soldiers?5 pages in, and no mention of the GOAT Sailor Scout?

According the Viz twitter account, part of the reason why they can't stream it in Canada yet is due to YTV. >_<
YTV? Really? Do they still have the broadcast rights or something?
I bet it has already been restored and they are sitting on it for whatever reason. :|
I do wonder if this is the case and they're waiting to time it "properly" after Rebuild.
There's no question about that.
Serena is no more. Usagi is the new hotness.
THE PAIN IS OVER. REJOICE.But what will replace the comedy stylings of: "You mean Darien is Prince Darien? No waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay."
They didn't say that. Viz wants the channel to air the show on TV, but good luck doing that with a US dub on modern YTV.
The reason they can't stream the show in Canada is because their entire streaming strategy consists of Hulu embeds. That service blocks all non-US IP by default. Viz said they were working on a Canadian alternative after Neon Alley's linear feed died, but that was months ago, and VizAnime.com never was open to Canadians either.
No, it's because Viz is going to be streaming on Hulu, and Hulu doesn't do Canada. Someone once said that Hulu could do Canada on a case-by-case basis, but then Canadians would get used to going to Hulu, and then they'd get mad at Hulu when the rights don't work, and that's too much trouble, so screw Canada.
The tweet from Viz says "we're actually hoping that our sempai @ytv might give us a call about broadcast"
That doesn't mean "YTV is blocking us and we're hoping that they call us up for no reason to say we're unblocked", it means "We have Sailor Moon, but we aren't in Canada. We know that YTV loves/loved Sailor Moon, and we're hoping/expecting that they're going to barge in the door any minute now and say 'Shut up and take my money.'"
Edit: beaten
It's just like the manga, where the NA release had only just begun when the perfect editions got announced.
Any news on the new artbook that got delayed?
Ooooo Ooooo!
Gimme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blu-Ray boxset day one! Have they announced a release date yet?
Also isn't there a new Sailor Moon anime coming soon, have we had a trailer for that?

While teenaged me who was obsessed with all things Sailor Moon is jumping for joy inside, the rest of me feel kinda bummed out at the news of all new English dub. I glad the censorship is gone, but Im going miss the dubbed names and the music. I like Serena vs. Usagi, Darien to Mamoru. I prefer The Power of Love over Moon Revenge, Carry On over. whatever they played in the Beryl fight at the end of the first season in the original Japanese.
In that perfect world that only exists in my head, wed be getting an enhanced version of the original English dub minus the censorship with all the names and music and songs included, plus the original, unedited Japanese dub for the purists.
I understand why thats a pipe dream that would never happen in million years but...
But
who will fight evil by moonlight and win love by daylight for me now ?
Who, GAF? Who?
Oh yeah, a major technical problem with offering the old dub isn't just missing episodes or script rewriting, but missing scenes and reordered scenes. You couldn't offer it as an audio track. You'd have to package it as a separate product entirely.
But why would you? Let it die on the scrap heap of history.
Yeah, I saw their later tweets. (The first one was misleading.)They didn't say that. Viz wants the channel to air the show on TV, but good luck doing that with a US dub on modern YTV.

Two things:I have the dubbed ADV DVDs of seasons 1&2, and the dual audio Pioneer DVDs of seasons 3&4 and the movies. They're complete. The audio is fine. No crimes have been committed against the DiC dub, aside from high prices on the resale market (although considering that all the companies involved are dead, that's what all the obvious, rampant piracy is for).
The Japanese version sounded like it was being broadcast out of a metal trash can, it lost one episode from season 2, the entirety of season 5, as well as all of the specials. All crimes which are being gloriously fixed by Viz! And it's getting something Sailor Moon never had, a good dub.
The two box sets released by ADV were sub only.
